‘Idols’ discuss careers – “American Idol” finalists have been painted with makeup, dashed with powder, dressed into outfits and paraded down countless gauntlets of strangers and flashing cameras. To “American Idol” contestants that flew into Branson Airport this week, it’s all about the music and the people. “Being a musician is very cyclical: record, promotion, perform,” finalist Blake Lewis said. “I go out and listen to great musicians. Sometimes I wake up and write a song, so I don’t think about the business. I don’t worry about the radio at all. I don’t try to conform to a certain box.” And none of it without a good cause, as Lewis and other “Idols,” like Elliott Yamin, apply their fame and fortune for philanthropy. – Branson Tri-Lakes News

I didn’t write it for my mother. It’s OK to do things for yourself every now and then. “I liked Clay alot before he talked smack about Adam.
    ““““““““““““““““““““`

For real? It didn’t take much because all he said was that he didn’t like Ring Of Fire.”

Oh, Clay said a lot more than just that. He said that his ears were bleeding when he heard Adam sing.  It was a far worse diss than what Adam said about SuBo’s version of “Wild Horses”.

“I think “opportunist” is a bit harsh, imo.
    ———

Harsh and totally inaccurate. Clay has been an out activist since the moment he came out 4 years ago.”

No, that’s not true, and Clay himself has admitted in a recent interview with Michelangelo Signorelli on OutQ  Sirius radio that he wasn’t totally comfortable when he came out in 2008 and pointed to comments that he made shortly after that he wasn’t planning on being such an activist for gay rights. He admits the he’s now advanced more in his feeling comfortable, and attributes that to his not having completed the “process” of coming out back in 2008. So you are incorrect about Clay being an out activist “since the moment he came out”. As a result, I can understand why there is an “opportunist” vibe to Clay’s more recent advocating for gay rights. I think so too.

During the same interview Clay also described his fans as predominantly from “red states”, implying that because of them being fans they had now changed their minds on gay rights. Fans are puzzled about this characterization, because they believe that it’s not accurate. At one point, I think that it was true that Clay has a lot of fans who were religious conservatives from red states, but most of them abandoned him when he came out (and because of the way he had his son), so perhaps there are a few who have changed their minds, but I think that Clay misrepresented that aspect of his fanbase and that was largely to mask how his popularity has declined over the past few years.

Also, Clay described Adam Lambert as a “niche” artist, which I think just shows how out of touch he is with who Adam is as an artist, what he is trying to accomplish (be a mainstream pop artist) and the level of success that he has achieved thus far.
