David Cook – “The Time Of My Life” – Song Premiere

Gah. Just when you didn’t think that coronation songs could get worse, out pops “Magic Rainbows”.

Good luck with the rock cred, dude. Any chance he won’t have to sing that during his post-Idol talk show tour? Any chance they can burn all copies of that song? Winning is such a double edged sword.

Seriously, who voted for this song? Was VFTW involved? If so, congrats on the victory, you devious fiends!

If the tour wizards are smart, they will slice and dice this into a medley with Jason’s song about rainbows and dreams. You know, that one with the ukulele.

Better still, rock it up at such an intense volume that the lyrics are undecipherable and let Jason have a 3-minute drum solo in the middle of it. Nobody would ever guess it was Velveeta.

Geez, MJ, have you slept at all?! It’s 9:08am in France when you posted this…gah. Thanks for your hard work. It was a blissful morning to wake up and find out Cookie had won.

P.P.S. “I’ve been looking for that magic rainbow?!” MAGIC RAINBOW?! Is the magic rainbow the one that the Lucky Charms leprachaun dances under? Seriously, that’s about the worst lyric I think I might ever have heard in my whole life. Other than that, I’d say this song is at least better than Do I Make You Proud (and I’m a huge Taylor fan).

Magic Rainbow. Can Cookie please name his first album something snarky to do with that, please? Gah.

I have to admit I actually kindof sortof like it…but then that’s likely because I was actively blocking out the lyrics (rainbows? seriously?). Concentrating on Cook’s voice, I’d say this is better than many of the coronation songs…though granted that’s not saying much. heh

We have to take it for what it is, right? It’s still David Cook singing, because he won, and right now that’s good enough for me. :king_tb:

I don’t like the song. The songs he sang before the finale were much more of a shocker and a winning moment song-if songwriting contest-didn’t- exist- for this season.

Ahh~ I love David so much.

Ok I really like this song, I do think it will be a hit because DC fans will buy it. I don’t know if it will reach Billie Jean status or ABMB, but I can wait on those types of songs & hopefully his cd will just rock. In the meantime, I will take anything of DC’s they put out.

ya know what? I don’t hate it. I went to dinner with my son right after the show ended (yeah, it was kinda late for dinner) and the song was still in my head. Maybe he will rock it up a little more than the end but it isn’t bad.

Who knew DC was such a cryer? LOL, its cute though, nice genuine emotion. He deserves all the success thats coming to him. The song sucks, but with DC singing it, its not that bad at all.

But I have to say this is the final proof of how much of a spell David has cast on me…. I don’t hate it. I watched the whole thing a couple of times on youtube and, maybe distracted by DC’s teary eyes, certainly distracted by his voice, I kind of liked it!

I SO look forward to whatever he’s going to publish… how long will it take???

The coronation songs will always be filled with dreams, hope and love, always. The songwriters can’t help themselves. LOL!!

The difference with this song is that David Cook is singing it and it does not get better than that.

I actually voted (several times) in the songwriting contest and had no memory of this song. I assume I stopped listening when I heard the words “magic rainbow.” (Didn’t Fantasia’s song have a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? wtf?) Maybe David will turn this into a tongue-in-cheek emo stalker song by the time the tour gets to me in August. Heh.

But still This is David’s Moment Like Now and I was happy to pay 99 pennies to buy a single with a new freakin’ picture on it. : )

Okay, “magic rainbows”–those words didn’t actually enter my brain, because of the lock I have installed there against intrusions like that. The only thing that gets past the guards is His Voice. And what a joy to find so many new songs on itunes this morning.

I’m flipping from one tv channel to another, enjoying the news.

I wonder if DC ever thought, in his wildest dreams, that he would get to sing a song with the words “magic rainbow” in it?!?!

Kudos to him for embracing the show in all its cheesy goodness. Not once did he ever look like he didn’t want to be there doing stupid group medleys or commercials or coronation songs. He threw himself 100% into everything.

The organized campaign had a plan. They voted for 10 for their three favourites and 1-5 for everything else. They restricted the number of songs they voted 10 for to try to increase the odds that one of them would win. The three songs they voted 10 for were “Here I Am”, “Something Like Heaven”, and “Believe”

Even The Archie’s didn’t want their guy to sing about “Magic Rainbows”. In fact, they would have actively voted against.

There was some other evil force out there that managed to pull out the win for this one. So much for Jeff’s rumoured ability to do anything.

Listen to the voice, imagine that teary-eyed dreamy stare — (letting that Guitar Hero ad imagine slip in there somehow) — there will be world peace.

Yes, well, the song is schlock, but if I listen to Creep afterwards — those *fucks* cancel out each and every *rainbow* in an instant.

The right guy finally won.

If ever there was a perfect rocker to win American Idol, it’s definitely David Cook. He has proven time and again that he’s not above the cheese. Somehow, just somehow, he makes this song work, just like “I Believe” worked for Fantasia. And yeah, I’ll immediately listen to “Creep” afterwards.

At least it has a melody. Way better than “My Destiny”. The magic rainbow bit is pretty bad though.

I didn’t think it was that bad for the puppies song, but maybe it’s just the rough vocals that makes it bearable.

I sheepishly admit to liking the song, particularly the melody. Also, when I hear it now, it reminds me of that incredible moment when he sang it, with a humble mixture of confidence and tears, confetti and friends…it was a moment!

What a wonderful surprise to find the iTunes singles today! I love anything Cookie sings and will be listening to his beautiful voice all day (day off work today thankfully since I was too hyped to sleep much last night).

This song is pretty bad but who really even listens to the words with his incredible voice? I love the raw emotion!

In several interviews this morning (Thurs) David Cook says that he stayed up all night. I know he did tv interviews well into the evening, and it looks like was there by 5 or 7 a.m. for more interviews, but do any of you know whether there was an Idol hosted party last night, or if he just celebrated with friends, or what? I’m curious about what his first 24 hours are looking like. I always assumed Idol ran a pretty tight ship (i.e.: no wild parties), but you never know.

So how many songs did Cook and the others have to learn for last night along with this new single Cook and Archie presumably had to learn? Was it like 7 or 8? Did they have a teleprompter? It would be hard to remember all the words with all the other prep work they had to do all week. A crazy schedule. The article from LA Times (‘American Idol’ diary: A behind-the-scenes look at finale week) describes how incredibly busy they were, and how every moment of their week was carefully planned and crammed with rehearsals, etc.

By the way, this coronation song IS uber-cheesy, but I bought it and love it because Cook is singing. In the long run, I’ll listen to his other Idol performances more often probably, but I know this single is just the beginning of much good music he’ll be putting out. I’d LOVE it if he gave it more of an edge, or replaced some of the cheesiest lyrics during the Idol Live Tour, which I bought tickets to (despite my husband’s objections, who is looking forward to a Cook concert, but has to be dragged to the likely cheese-fest of the Idol Tour .

Well sure it’s cheese, but it’s better than TIMN. Yes, #1 already on iTunes and they are allowing it to show up on the Top Songs chart.

The front page of itunes has Cook’s song as no 1 under “Top Songs”, but when you click on the Top songs link to get to the full list of top songs, it is listed at #24. There are a bunch of other idol related songs on the top 100 list too, such as “Sharp Dressed Man”, “Summer of 69″ and 2 different versions of “Hallelujah”.

GAH…I hate iTunes. Not only can I not access it online from work, its not friendly to non-iPod users. I downloaded ABMB after his performance of it and it was a real PITA to be able to convert it to an mp3 so I could play it on my player. But for Cook, I’ll brace myself and go through it again to download the coronation song – but I eagerly anticipate the day when I don’t have to purchase through iTunes.

All I can say is both DA and DC were class acts. None more than the other. DC took DA like a little brother. So don’t give such negative thoughts. I am glad DC won but let it rest. Once again, I think they are both happy with where they are. Give it a rest. Good buy!!!

I agree Cook and Arch are both class acts and you can see they genuinely care about each other almost like brothers. DC seems protective of DA and DA seems to look up to DC. Very sweet.
