Big Brother 17 Episode 2 Recap and Live Blog (VIDEOS)

The two-night Big Brother 17 premiere continues tonight on CBS! Read a live recap and join the discussion here.

Last night we met eight of the new Big Brother 17 HouseGuests and watched them compete in the first HoH competition of the summer. James was crowned the first HoH of the week, but he won’t be the only one. With the return of the Battle of the Block, a new HoH will also be crowned. Tonight we will meet the remaining HouseGuests and see who will win the second HoH competition of the week. But with the BB Takeover in play that will unleash a new twist into the house every week, nothing is certain and more surprises are sure to come. It will be jam-packed episode, so let’s get started!

Julie is back in the live studio and announces that the first BB Takeover will be unleashed tonight. She hints that there will be a surprise guest stopping by to shake up the house.

Time to meet the next six HouseGuests! The first three are Liz, the marketing coordinator from Miami; Jason, the grocery store worker; and Vanessa, the professional poker player. The next three are John, the dentist who plays electric guitar; Becky, retail manager from Colorado; and Steve, the audio engineering student. They all pack up their belonging as they talk about strategy before leaving to Los Angeles.

The six HouseGuests are now in the studio with Julie. Before they enter, she reveals to them that a group of HouseGuests have already moved in. She also tells them about the the two twists: the return of Battle of the Block and the new BB Takeover. The first three to enter are Liz, Becky, and Steve. They rush inside the house and are greeted by the eight HouseGuests who have already moved in. Steve is especially overwhelmed to be inside the house since he’s a superfan of the show. Liz finds Clay attractive and says he is a 10/10. Becky is bothered by Jace’s slang term for Colorado. The next three HouseGuests move in minutes afterwards. Austin notes how short Jason is. John is excited and is hugging everybody. Vanessa is already asking for information and learns James won the first HoH competition.

The HouseGuests sit around the table and introduce themselves. John reveals he’s a dentist, but Da’Vonne doesn’t believe him. Liz says she is single, and Jace is happy about that. Clay notes that Steve is eerily similar to Ian, the winner of Season 14. Everyone likes Jason’s energy, and Da’Vonne says he reminds her of Pee-Wee Herman. The HouseGuests from last night reintroduce themselves too, and Audrey tells everyone she is a transgender and the reaction is just as positive as last night. Becky is the last to introduce herself. James finds her attractive and says he wouldn’t mind her or any of the other girls being HoH with him for the week.

It’s time for the first BB Takeover twist. Phil Keoghan, the host of The Amazing Race, arrives and sits down with Julie to reveal the twist. He notes that former Big Brother HouseGuests have been on The Amazing Race before, but this time a team from The Amazing Race will now be crossing over to Big Brother. The team will be Jeff and Jackie from the most recent season of The Amazing Race. They were one of the Blind Date teams and are now going to enter the house and compete for the $500,000. Phil Keoghan will also take over hosting duties for the week. Phil informs the HouseGuests of the twist and Jeff and Jackie move into the house. All the other HouseGuests are surprised, as well as uncertain about exactly where Jeff and Jackie’s relationship stands. Before they entered the house, Jeff admitted to Julie and Phil that they are not a couple, but are still friends. In his diary room confessional, Jeff says that he knows he has Jackie in his back pocket to help him make it far in the game.

It’s now time for the second HoH competition of the week. Before they begin, Julie tells them that one person from the second group must sit out. Everyone is reluctant to sit out, but Vanessa eventually speaks up and says that she will sit out. They all gather outside to begin the competition. All of them must hold onto their wooden stake while trying to be pulled away by a UFO. The last person hanging on will win HoH. Steve is the first person to be eliminated from the competition. Jeff is the second person eliminated, but hints that he threw the competition to not seem like a bigger threat. He and Jackie are worried that being from The Amazing Race will make them a target. The third person to be eliminated is John and he is followed by Becky. The last three left competing are Jackie, Jason, and Liz. Liz is the next one eliminated, meaning either Jackie or Jason will be the second HoH. Jason tells Jackie he won’t nominate Jackie if he wins HoH, so Jackie lets go of her stake. Jason is the second HoH. Da’Vonne is worried that there are two male HoHs since that usually means a female will be targeted for eviction. She is adamant that she will try to stop that if she can.

Before the episode ends, we see Phil tease the next BB Takeover twist. He tells Da’Vonne and Vanessa that it was risky to sit out of the HoH competition, but “with risk comes reward.” He doesn’t say anything more, leaving the HouseGuests to speculate what that means.

And that wraps up the two-night premiere of Big Brother 17! Thanks for reading and come back Sunday night to see which HouseGuests James and Jason nominated for eviction and which pair of nominees won the Battle of the Block.
