Ok, I put this in the headlines thread because I didn’t see a concert thread. Here are some tweets from the pre-show M&G. Evidently both Kris and Adam went out for this…ad Kris almost got hit by a car? (IDK…that’s what someone tweeted)

This woman is at the concert with the wife of one the wounded soldiers the Idols met at Walter Reed today.

And she had an accident on the way to the concert and missed Sarver’s set. (And she had given him a cross necklace earlier, that he’s no longer still wearing, so a little fangirling on Michael.) She’s there now, fine, and liking Scott. But Sarver twittered her back along the way.

The WNST Adam interview was really fun – and the interviewer knew a whole lot more about Idol and Adam then most of the music reporters seem to know. Sure glad he didn’t ask Adam sports questions.

As someone who grew up in Delaware and on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, I can’t believe that they didn’t get them all some crabcakes. That’s just not right!

Nothing except for a casual reference to the Idols shooting a papp with silly string in a couple of concert stories.

Hopefully it just gets forgotten about and the video never shows up. I can’t see any good could come from it. I would rather people/the press focus on how well Anoop is doing in concert.

my fave singer was once asked what he does with all the gifts from fans and interviewers and stuff, and he made a motion of throwing it behind him. The guy goes “All of it?” and he replies “All of it.” People do need to get real and realize that they can’t, and probably don’t want to, keep all of the stuff fans give them.

I have a lot of friends at tonight’s concert — all Adam fans and biased — but I would expect Baltimore to be Adam country. (John Water’s hometown, Home of the Sleeze Festival, etc.).

I spoke to a couple of them before the concert and they said there are all these young teenage girls — 12 to 15 — just screaming their heads off at anything Adam – even people walking by in Adam T’s. Before the concert pre-videos were shown, they were just chanting Adam Adam Adam.

They think it’s going to be wild when Adam finally takes the stage. Do me proud Bal’more!

The paparazzi cross the line all the time. There needs to be a price they pay when they act like this. The legtimate press should not buy photos from this guy otherwise they are tacitly approving of his behavior.

I don’t know. The folks I know who are at the show know nothing about Idol, claim to have never seen the show, and are still trying to figure the whole thing out. They bought tickets just to see Adam but I think may love the whole show.

My guess is they’ll love Allison, Adam and maybe Matt, but Kris would be their style. They are hardcore punk and art rock musicians I know from the 80′s. I already them to expect Rascal Flats and Journey, to give them a bit of context.

I wouldn’t read too much into the Jason and Matt tweets. Jason was on a bit of a tweeting frenzy last night and he was being rather silly in general. I’m not saying he wouldn’t want to work with Matt because I know he’s a fan, but I don’t think it was any formal invitation so much as two Idol alums touching base over twitter. That said, I wouldn’t mind them working together on something. That and I think Matt will find a record deal.

Yes, true. It might have been posted on Adam Official, and she possibly could have met him before. There have been women who started Adam fansites and have flown all across the country to meet up. A few met up for the NYC press tour.

For some future tour dates, it might be a good idea to go on his fansites to see if any of them are meeting before the show. Some have said they even got better seats because they had extra tix

God forbid they should let him sleep in on his day off! Geez……I’m so sick of hearing Paula is leaving Idol already!

I think the Idol producers would be smart to have each Idol change out one song . It would get the press talking and the fans would get excited. It would help show the performers diversity.

To Allison- usually when I don’t know the definition of something, I look it up. If you would have done so, you would have found that it is a sign of mutual respect to consider something an “honor”.

Like someone else said, it was probably an off hand tweet, but just because Jason and Matt are different genres doesn’t mean they can’t work together. People cross genres all the time. He said he liked his piano work, I doubt he wants to do a duet with him- probably just wants to give a fellow idol a gig.

So close you see extra little changes in dance moves and hand gestures. His expressions are priceless – soo good at performing. Too bad only the first few rows ever really get to see this kind of complete performance.

I agree. I’m trying to think back to season 5, the only one where I was somewhat aware of the tour: it seems that Taylor varied his set from city to city, but maybe I’m remembering wrong. I don’t remember what his set was. Probably some Idol historian has kept records of all this.

My guess is they’ll love Allison, Adam and maybe Matt, but Kris would be their style. They are hardcore punk and art rock musicians I know from the 80′s.

You’ll have to let us know what they thought of it all. I’m amazed they would buy tickets if they had never seen the show. Did you talk them into it?

I sent them links to some videos and recommended it. And yes, I am a nervous wreck about it now. I really didn’t think they would go but now I have 9 of my best, oldest and dearest friends at this concert. So Adam better do something special tonight!

So close you see extra little changes in dance moves and hand gestures. His expressions are priceless – soo good at performing. Too bad only the first few rows ever really get to see this kind of complete performance.

I don’t know. The folks I know who are at the show know nothing about Idol, claim to have never seen the show, and are still trying to figure the whole thing out. They bought tickets just to see Adam but I think may love the whole show.

Q3, I have had this impression that the tour has done really well this year considering the economy….many of the tour cities have been hard hit with unemployment etc. Maybe I am just being OTT, but I can’t help but believe that the reason some of these arenas are selling so well is the Adam Phenomenon. People have heard, word of mouth or otherwise, became intriqued ….. or started watching AI because of the fanfare and became fans. Your friends, what age group?

You know the world has changed when one can Twitter search “Elvis Hair” at the top of an Adam Lambert set and get so many results. Some not even mentioning any other name, just those two words. Some thrilled. Some not.

I’m just doing consumer research, of course.

Confused by your comment because I never said anything about Adam driving the tour. I saw 2 concerts and I know it is about Idol, Kris, Danny, Allison, Anoop, Adam, etc.

Age group — 32 to 57. 3 gay, 5 straight, 1 undecided.

Trust me, my 9 friends are not representative of anything! They just trust my musical taste and went to the concert. My guess is they could be the only people there who have really never watched Idol. And trust me, I am certain they haven’t.

I don’t find it annoying, but I have noticed it and I think it’s kinda funny. Elliott used to do that too, because my sister and I used to make fun of it, in a good natured way. I also know that Billy Joel does it too….I am a huge Billy Joel fan, so I know these things. It is snark worthy, though.

Anyway, I do remember an interview during AI with Danny’s wife’s family. I think his sister in law was talking about how the family told him not to use his hands so much, but then she added something like..”he really can’t talk without his hands.”

I’ve got to say, while I love what he’s doing on Fame and Let’s Dance, I’m not there yet on “Life on Mars”. I just can’t get down with the fake British accent, it takes it from concert performance to theater performance for me. I’d love to hear him talk about what he’s trying to do in this set. If it’s a deliberate move from past/faithful interp to present/new, then it would make sense, though I’m still not nuts about it.

And I want him to do Let’s Dance on GMA. I think the big barrier to doing anything other than MW maybe instrumentation, but maybe not. It’s a little combo, they will all be in NY, and I think they’ve been used before, so maybe.

And I’m wondering if the fact that ABC is using MW to promote a new TV show weighs pro, con or neutral in the decision of which song.

That would describe me if you replaced all of the Adam with Kris. The most I ever watched Idol in the past was once or twice a season, mostly to laugh at all of the hype. I even voted, and I always laughed at anyone who thought the votes actually counted. Then I went to the tour. All because of Kris.

I thinkthat ever year, individual Idols collect a group of fans who love them and never dreamed of going all “gaga”.

I watched the show but I never thought of going to an Idol concert before Adam, and I went to two concerts, have gotten over 20 people who never took anything Idol seriously to go to the concert. 14 in Memphis on my dime (I am so high on Adam, I threw a party at this concert) and now my 9 Bal’more friends at there. And I am still afraid to tell some of my LA friends that I have turned into a “fangirl” because the laughter will reach London! I am usually consider TOO analytical.

But then, tons of British musicians sing with American accents, and it’s done so much that it only bugs me a little. I do despise American singers who ape Irish/Scots accents when they do Celtic music, so at least I’m consistent in that.

Mars is very true to the original, but Fame and Let’s Dance have a whole new thing added to them, very current.

I agree and his accent is very close to Bowie’s recording of Life on Mars ‘” but Adam’s vocals are better IMO.

He does the Salsa with the mic stand as the woman, sort of. It’s clearly choreographed. And in the two concerts I saw, he really steps over the mic stand and twills it. Nothing like what Adam does.

I watched the show but I never thought of going to an Idol concert before Adam, and I went to two concerts, have gotten over 20 people who never took anything Idol seriously to go to the concert. 14 in Memphis on my dime (I am so high on Adam, I threw a party at this concert) and now my 9 Bal’more friends at there. And I am still afraid to tell some of my LA friends that I have turned into a ‘fangirl’  because the laughter will reach London!

I understand where you are coming from but look at it a different way, I don’t think Adam is imitating an English accent, he is just singing the song the same way Bowie did. Using Bowies inflections and style. Since it isn’t even a whole song and it quickly moves into Fame, to me it’s just a homage to Bowie for that short time. I’ve watched every vid and listened to every thing Adam has done, he doesn’t imitate anyone, it’s all original Lambert.

No, just Danny’ ¦ it’s hard not to after his ‘I’ve been watching another performer but won’t say who’  comment. But you’re probably right in that it’s choreographed.

I’m sure it’s the choreographer. They all worked with the same guy, and Danny had these moves going on since day one.

As far as the watching another performer, I never thought he was talking about a current idol, and certainly not Adam. I’ve no doubt that he admires Adam’s talent, he has said as much, but they are nothing alike. Nothing that Adam does would really fit Danny. I like them both, but to me, they are absolutely nothing alike and I don’t think Danny thinks so either.

I definitely here the accent, especially on the “go”. I think it’s effective in the song, I assumed an homage to Bowie not an imitation and I appreciated it. I mean really, Life on Mars is sort of a theatrical song no matter which way you slice it and I think it’s what Adam intended. He’s not getting voted on anymore and I’m sure theatrical still appeals to him and for Life on Mars I think it’s wholly appropriate.

Chiming in a little late here. But when I watched the Danny vid I thought he was trying to do the dancing with the microphone thing. I think he was trying to do more a gene kelly type thing.

Personally I love the fact that Adam sticks close to the original when he sings Life on Mars .. as others have said .. I see it as he’s doing a transition from an original take on a Bowie song to his own interpretation of Let’s Dance .. via Fame.

When Bowie sang Life on Mars he was the character Ziggy Stardust and I see Adam kind of honoring that character and Bowie by singing it with the same accent .. like a kind of tribute

Adam didn’t invent the moves he does on stage. He picked them up from watching other entertainers. There is nothing wrong with Danny doing the same thing, and I am no Danny apologist.

All entertainers take from others and put together whatever works for them. It is rare that anyone comes up with anything that hasn’t been done before.

Very few American rock singers use a British accent. Adam’s Life on Mars is unusual in that respect. Adam’s Scots accent in Brigadoon is excellent. It’s on YouTube. Check it out. He is very good at accents. Even his Hebrew is excellent. I would love to hear some of the Latin and Italian classical music he sang when he was younger. I have never seen any recordings of it but I still hope it will turn up.

I’ve heard his Brigadoon and it is good, but he’s adopting a character in that, so it’s what I’d expect in that context. Likewise, when you sing in a foreign language, you want to do it as well as you can. But, for me, a concert performance in your own native tongue is best in your own native accent, otherwise it crosses over into playing a character, even if you do the accent well. (and hilarious(and not in a good way) when you don’t)

Adam’s bringing elements of his theatrical background into his concert performances. I’m assuming it’s a deliberate choice, and most of them, even when surprising, I’m on board with. Maybe I’ll change my mind about this one, but for now, for me,
the accent thing takes what would otherwise be a great performance down a notch or two. But it’s not a big deal – not like he thinks he has to do it with every British singer he covers, and soon, we’ll be hearing very few covers from him.

No clearly “Life on Mars” is pure Bowie — it is a tribute before he transitions thru Fame to a totally Adamized version of Let’s Dance, with some originial lyrics. It is brilliant — he doesn’t offend Bowie fans like me, and he still does something relevant and original. And I believe that his lyrics at the end of Let’s dance are the only non-cover lyrics in the entire show. I could be mistakes because I really didn’t study Megan and Scotts sets.

IMO if it was OK for the Beattles, Stones, Led Zepp, and all the other great British rock and blues bands to sing with American Accents, I can’t see the difference about Adam singing part of Bowie with a British accent.

Frankly, some operatic and theatrical rock is better suited to a British accent, but the blues don’t works with it — you loose the blue notes.

I agree with you .. as a Brit I would definitely say he’s singing part with a British accent .. like you say it’s the way he pronounces the vowels. It’s not a full Bowie impersonation as he dosn’t have the exact same exaggerated Cockney/London accent that Bowie uses for his interpretation.

Just my opinion but I fel he’s going for the Brit/Bowie twist on it without doing a total rip off impersonation.

Loving the bubble tweets. I was wishing awhile back that they’d just set up a blog and do a tour diary (in all their spare time…). But some enterprising fan could collect all the tweets (twats), bubbletweets, etc, and compile it for them.

Given Adam’s comfort with talking off the cuff and the fact that he’s been a professional actor most of his life, I’d like to see him get a chance at some tv comedy. SNL or similar.

There’s a link to a sweet interview with Danny (Access Hollywood) in the headlines thread. I even got a tear in my eye. I wish they hadn’t asked him about Adam’s sexuality, though. But it’s Laura Saltzman, so I think it’s unavoidable.

Verdict is in from my 9 American Idol “virgins” who went to the concert tonight.

None are typical Idol fans – and they represent nothing about American or the audience – just some people on the fringe of music AKA Baltimore Club/Art Scene. They are all into really alternative music – hardcore punk, rap core, art rock, acid house, techno hip hop and really good dance electronica. They detest post grunge, post new wave, pop rock, chick rock (Nickelback), and all “corporate” music. Here are their positive comments:

- I am not being asked to give refunds — I guarenteed they’d enjoy the concert. (This could have been an expensive night for me.) They thought the whole evening was fun — even the people they didn’t like because of genre or talent level they appreciated how much they put into doing a really good show. They use Michael (the big guy who was first) as an example of this.

- They were amazed at how in-to-it the crowd was. Hated the videos. 1 plans to make a parody video of Carrie’s American Girl which they said was on 8 times. (I think it was more like 3 or 4 times and seemed like 8!)

- American Idol – 1 admited he is going to check out the show next season. I think there could be a couple of people afraid to admit that they plan to tune in.

- Adam – 8 of 9 loved him. 1 though he was OK. My freinds are making him walk home. Jacket and hips a big hit. Elvis hair – very hot. They all thought that Starlight and Bowie were the two best numbers.

- Allison – 4 really liked her at lot; the rest just wanted to strap her down or get her drugs.

- Matt – 2 thought Matt was really hot! 1 says he must be gay. All thought he was great on the first song, but should never go near The Fray again.

- Megan – 1 loved Megan and loved who pink dress.

- Danny – He sweats too much but his salsa number was pretty good.

To be fair, the Fray suck. So who cares if he can’t do them properly.

I imagine Matt and his fans care since it’s been consistently mentioned in concert reviews as the weak link in his set. We know Matt reads his reviews and gets angsty over them.

I think Danny worked with the choreographer to come up with his moves for the tour….as a matter of fact, I’m sure of it. Not everything comes back to Adam.

So Adam’s Twitter acct and bubble tweet works now. Was that Anoop making that funny noise, or did he just look up and not make any sounds?

This part I don’t get AT ALL! Love Clayton Stroope, don’t think they sound alike. But I do agree with the sing, dance, sense of humor and style compliments. I really do think that Matt will get a contract next. I also think if his nerves hadn’t gotten to him on the show, he might have made top 3.

Yes, this is pretty much what everyone one reports. It’s apparently v. difficult for the avg camera mic to capture Adam’s voice.

No, I think they skew the pitch-mix higher across the board. I don’t think we would be able to hear Allison otherwise as her voice is so raspy. Kris sounds higher live also for the most part.

ETA: On another note, we all that went in my group loved Allison as well but felt the band was too loud on her set in several places. I’m pretty sure that’s been a consistant complaint throughout the tour – you think they’d have fixed that.

I agree that Matt is a very good pianist, and I think even Kris agreed that Matt is better than him. I think Kris, however, has more musicality and a better connection to his music. I also agree that Matt’s “You Found Me” is an oddball in his set.

Even as a Kris fan, I don’t find his set as diverse as many of the other contestants. But I don’t really think the lack of diversity is bad for Kris. Personally, I didn’t find David Cook’s set very diverse last year, but it was still awesome. Call me crazy, but I think the “lack” of diversity in both performers was perfect. It showcased David’s and Kris’s styles perfectly and showed that they knew their strengths well. And the sets weren’t totally NOT diverse, either. Kris showed diversity in instrumental and vocal combination prowess, and I’m pretty sure Cook’s songs were pretty diverse (To be honest, I don’t remember his set perfectly, I loved David but last year at the concert I was a bitter Archie ). And Kris was still my favorite of the night.

But the most important thing for me is that Matt gets signed next. I know I didn’t talk very favorably of him in what I said earlier, but he is my second favorite and one of the two I’m for sure going to get an album from (The other being Kris). His first two songs were surely some of the best that night.

Gotcha. This has been a common discussion. From day 1 of the tour people were really surprised at how high Starlight was when Adam does it live and they’ve all said it doesn’t come through on the vids. I know Adam is doing it somewhat higher on purpose as he said so in one interview as he was going for a very ethereal effect (as someone else up thread also mentioned).

Some of the later vids concerned me because it sounded like he might have it down a bit lower and I really want to hear the ethereal version. Now, since you’re reporting it high, I’m thinking he may just have been sick (based on the chewing gumming and drinking lots of water and some reports of him *gasp* actually sweating — lol’d at that).

Both sides were closed last night. They are OK seats if you are sitting as far to the front of the stage as you can get, any further back and you can’t see half the stage.

There was something odd about the ticket sales for DC. There were Floor 2 tickets in Row Z available at 4PM through Ticketmaster. There were seats on the first level not sold.

My guess is that the ticket sales in DC were not good. Part of it may be that everyone who can leaves DC in August. It’s just too hot and humid.

I guess we’ll know when the ticket sales # come out.

Those of you saying that Kris sounds whiny, have you heard him sing live? I thought he sounded much richer, warmer, fuller than he did on TV. Definitely not whiny. If you have heard him live and still think “whiny” then I guess I will just agree to disagree.

Adam’s voice sounded higher in San Diego than Los Angeles. I don’t know if Adam is changing the song or the sound mix varies city to city. Adam called the song “ethereal” so maybe that’s what he’s going for, but personally, I liked it a little lower (e.g., Staples). The vocals on Mad World were beautiful in both places.

Thanks flynnsgirl, I figured it was an OBS VUE thing, but it was hard to tell from the video. I think I would have been happy to sit in the seat on the aisle, first row. Once went to an opening performance of Phantom in L.A. ‘“ first level box seats. They sold the seats before they designed the set. FAIL. We couldn’t see half the stage. They had to break up our group of four and find us all individual seats.

@Q3, the only time I’ve been to D.C. was last week in July ‘“ I can relate to wanting to flee that weather oppression. Despite that, it is one of my favorite cities in the world.

But yeah the typo is on purpose. I think they’re ribbing Adam for his notorious spelling and grammar mistakes. He once tweeted something with “fianlly” in it.

Those are terrific! Did you take those. I really like when he moves around in Starlight. He sounds great!

I would imagine that they are all headed to NYC this evening and will stay there for the next 5-6 days for all their area concerts — probably taking their buses from NYC to Atlantic City for that concert if it isn’t too far away. Would that make sense logistically? Adam and Kris will probably be recording or something in NYC tomorrow since they have the day off.

Thanks Cheetara86 for the vids. Adam sounded a little off tonite…Really, it always makes it so nervous to wait for hearing Starlight at every concert stop. IMO it’s the hardest song for him of his set …whenever his voice sounds a wee bit hoarse, Starlight manifests it the most…meanwhile, when he is at the top of his game, Starlight sounds EPIC!!!! (like last night DC’s rendition:x)

They thought he was sexy and vocally brilliant. Some highlights:

“The crowd was wild during WLL but that when Adam spoke before Starlight almost everyone got quiet and listened. Then it was amazing because it was so quiet and yet you could hear people very quietly singing along when he sang.”

“The whole performance — I just could take my eyes off of him. I felt compelled to watch.”

“He just seemed alive on the stage — like that’s where he belongs.”

“The whole place was filled with energy. Even during Starlight and Mad World.”

“His Bowie almost made you forget that Bowie ever existed.”

“There were these 70 year old ladies in front of us just dancing away during the last two songs. Just didn’t seem like the type who would like him.”

“Eye makeup way too dark. He should use more light colors and silver.”

Q3, Thank you I love their comments: These two were my favorite and I felt this way when I saw him in Glendale:

There wasn’t that much singing along in Glendale to Starlight (Mad World, yes), still fairly early in the tour, but there was a hush over the crowd and when the light hit the disco balls and the stars were all over the arena, magical.

Just watched the Baltimore bowie medley, and it’s so true. His energy and delight comes through even on youtube, not to mention in the live venue.

The reporter was a bit ditzy and asked some strange questions.

Do you believe that children are the future? Do you wear sunglasses at night? Do you know the way to San Jose? WTF? Using old songs as questions, yipes. I got the feeling that she thought they were going to sing the answers for her.

Also, Michael is certainly embracing country – that’s a good thing. It’s his best shot. And I was surprised she asked him about the TV show Dallas and more surprised that Michael had never heard of it.

Good morning Sunn, yep the tinhatters are going effing crazy at ONTD_AI, we Adamtards can’t stop grinning here over the bubble tweets. Bra throw and almost hit Allison during SR, they both cracked up. There are great videos up of Adam’s performances. Part 2 of L.A. Times interview w/Adam is up. Good video interview with Adam is up. So, all in all it was a good night.

I think part of the problem with the Anoop one may be that he’s speaking very softly to save his voice. Hence also the constant drinking of water. That or he was trying to do something with his hands to stop facepalming himself from the utter inanity of this woman’s “questions,” which were ’80s song lyrics. And where does he mention Adam? I read that he said that Kris and Adam were his faves on the bus, because they were quieter, but I didn’t hear it in this interview? And yes, I do think I managed to listen to the whole thing. Even to the end and the “do you like big butts?” question that woman forced upon poor Anoop.

That Slow Ride was ridicously cute. Everytime I think they can’t top themselves by being cute, of interacting well, having fun with thrown items, they prove me wrong. They just interact so well together and were just a joy to watch in that. And that video is nice and close, has good sound and both of their voices were in good form and interacting well together. Adam hit some pretty low notes in there, cool. Yes, I know, they have to disassociate themselves from AI in their records, but damn it, I want them to do something musically together in the future at some point.

Funniest moment at the concert: seeing Allison point to a fan during Slow Ride, then just dodging that bra when it was thrown..Her and adam cracked up and she lost it.

Holy Glambulge Batman! What a thing to wake up to, all these terrific Adam vids. He sounds and look fantastic! The Bowie Medley posted is the best I’ve seen. I am so glad he has ditched all the coreographed(spellcheck?) moves and is dancing his way now. Much more natural and sexier if that is possible. Thank you guys sooo much!

It is good that there friendship transcends the whole competition thing. Kris’ laid back attitude will help to ground a “filterless” Adam. Adam’s out there attitude will help Kris through all this publicity. Baltimore really came through with the videos

I was surprised at how high pitched Adam’s voice sounded past WLL. Starlight and Mad World in particular sounded much higher than all the recordings and youtubes I’ve heard. Not sure if anyone else thought that. Could have been the sound mix..

I noticed that too during parts of Starlight and MW – I personally think he mixes up how he sings parts of the song, using a different part of his voice to get a more light and airy sound – because the timbre definitely sounds different from how it often comes across on video. If that is the case, my guess is it’s a technique to put less strain on his voice.

Wow, I enjoyed that so much! Loved Scott’s glissandos for some reason, and interaction between Michael and Megan.

You can see why they were all so livid when they had to lip synch their group numbers. Must have been frustrating to be perfectly competent, but not given the time or tools to do it right.

Definitely some of the best videos we have seen all tour. Unfortunately there were some girls there who obviously didn’t go to the concert to watch the idols, but chose, instead to talk during EVERY number!!! How frustrating. They can be heard yaking in almost every video!!!

A comment every now and then, I could understand. But, they were having entire conversations. Wny did they go to concert that they were not interested in. Maybe they seen it all already at some previous concert.

he said the loudest was Scott because of his vocal warm ups. Which is funny because Anoop said one song that will remind him of the tour is “bend and break” because scott sings it all. the. time. Like, I think he said for hours at a time. It doesn’t seem to be paying off. and both Michael and Anoop seem genuinely annoyed by it.

I understand. McAfee has become essential since I started following Adam. I have caught several viruses and had to contact Mcafee for a clean up( cost me $90 bucks) once. You can’t be too careful.
