More than 5,000 hopefuls arrived at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ Saturday to audition for American Idol Season 12.

Listen to the voices of a few of the singers who could grace the Idol stage come January. Well, probably not, but you never know.

We even get a sprinkling of backstories, including a woman who recently lost her husband, and another who was diagnosed with autism.

UPDATE: Austin Percario from The X Factor group InTENsity is singing “Put Your Records On” at the 3:27 mark.

Check out the Newark sampling below.

     Good luck if you do!

The runner-up has to work twice as hard as the winner, even though they may be twice as talented! And I believe I read somewhere that the salary will be lower for the runner-up from now on. They REALLY need to change the voting system to 10 votes per person, or similar to DWTS.

I LOVE what you call “boring ballads!”  They’re NOT boring to me and all the others who voted for Sanchez & Archie & Doolittle, etc., etc., etc.

”I think a great looking girl who is an artist can win. Don’t do the boring ballads. Don’t dress in an ’80′s evening gown.”

Tell this to Crystal Bowersox and Haley Reinhart.

Maybe if people who don’t like WGWGs actually voted as hard as those that like the cute boys things would be different.  Its like everyone saying why bother to vote for a political candidate…he won’t win anyway.

The salary is only lower IF they don’t get a record deal. Jessica has a record deal(although it hasn’t been formerly announced yet).
