Adam Lambert Gets a Big Boost from Oprah

According to Brian Mansfield at Idol Chatter, Adam Lambert’s current single and album showed 60% increases this week over last. (for more, read HERE)

Why the big increase? It’s Oprah, of course. Oprah Winfrey devoted 3/4’s of her talk show on Tuesday to Adam. She interviewed him and he performed his single, “Whataya Want From Me”. Here’s how the numbers shook out:

Whataya Want From Me downloads jumped 59 percent, going from 37,000 to 59,000 (cumulative total: 266,000).

For Your Entertainment replaced Carrie Underwood’s Play On as last week’s top-selling American Idol album, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Weekly sales of For Your Entertainment rose more than 7,000 units (60 percent), from 12,000 to close to 20,000, giving him a release-to-date total approaching 477,000. For Your Entertainment climbed from No. 35 to No. 21 on The Billboard 200 chart.

Percentage-wise digital sales of For Your Entertainment did even better, rising 83 percent, from not quite 2,000 to well over 3,000.

No wonder a spot on Oprah’s show is coveted by many artists, no matter the genre. (Lady Gaga appeared recently).

Susan Boyle, who appeared in the first segment of Adam’s episode, saw a 9K increase in her sales.

  • ilovetohateai

I wouldn’t brag about the sales increase. It’s pathetic if you ask me!

  • will

A 60% increase is nice, but I was actually expecting bigger numbers for the album from the Oprah boost. What it comes down to is 8,000 additional units, if we can assume he would have sold somewhere in the area of the previous week’s 12,000 without being featured for 45 minutes on her show. Maybe Oprah just doesn’t have as much impact on music sales as she does books.

  • revcat

I expected the boost and am happy for Adam. Thanks Oprah :) There were people online before the show saying there would be no boost and now there are people online saying the boost is pathetic. Different day, same old you-know-what!

  • aa618892

Adam was wonderful in the interview and performance. I am very thankful for this increase considering how many other artists suffered in sales this week.

  • agathe.hb

I wouln’t call it pathetic.? why? considering how polarizing he is and how many people are turned off by his being gay? I think his sales are great! I never expected Adam to be mainstream superstar, not from the start – maybe he will grow to be big in the future, probably outsie the US, as people tend to be more open minded elsewhere ….

  • jinxx315

Even though it might be hard to imagine, a lot of people probably weren’t aware of just how talented and amazing Adam is. A lot of people just knew him from Idol and the AMA Performance. When he sings WWFM it shows a totally different side, but a side a lot of people can connect with. Adam is groundbreaking and I am so proud of what he is accomplishing. I admit at first his album didn’t click with me, but overall there are some great songs on it. Kudos to Adam and kudos to Oprah for having him on. :)

    Yay Adam!!!

Hopefully it keeps on selling well (but ofcourse I’m bracing myself for a drop next week…)

I expected it to be between 20K and 24K so at the bottom of the range I though he’d get, but still not bad.

Without Oprah, however, he prob would have had a sales decrease to maybe 10K. So lift from Oprah was really nice.

Regarding SuBo — she was only up 1% — and that is not much.

But overall this a was crappy week for music sales!!

  • sr4mjc

Great job Adam! Here’s to a successful international rollout.

Sitting down on the couch with a mojito. Didn’t the album release in Brazil this week? Any Brazilian fans here who can tell us how it’s going?

  • Kate8

The album sales increase was around what I expected’ but WWFM single sales were higher than I expected. I think that is the highest single sales that Adam has ever had for a week.

don’t forget what the Canadian dj’s and journalists kept repeating – that this is the era of piracy – we don’t really know how many people have downloaded Adam’s album or singles? What’s impressive is that his sales are increasing, even though he is definitely not everybody’s cup of tea :)

  • Soberba

Imagine how much bigger this boost would be if he had chosen a better hairstyle for that interview? Heh.

I’m from Brazil and I think the release date for his album here is tomorrow. (I know Adam said 01/25 on twitter, but the websites that are selling it and that I check out said the release date was 01/28).

But don’t count on his CD to sell tons around here. People here steal music A LOT. I don’t know anybody that actually thinks there’s something wrong with downloading someone’s CD for free. Everybody does it. It’s a shame.

  • mmb

I think I predicted 14-17K on the album. I thought a 40/50% increase during a time of the year when album sales are generally decreasing would be a big bump. So yay for exceeding my predictions.

Exactly. I never expected Adam to take over the world out of the gate either. Nor did he, which is why he was always quick to correct people when they made those predictions.

Personally, I’m turned on by the fact he’s gay, and I’m totally happy with his album sales. Oh heck…I’m happy with anything the guy does. Unconditional fan love I guess. :)

Adam Lambert still hasnt cracked gold, yet? He is not moving units as much as I thought he would have at this point.

  • mistyluv7

All Artists know that their music is being “stolen”……..yet they continue to bring out their best and entertain the Fans. What more can we ask for!! Lets hope that Adam keeps Rockin the World and Tours. He holds his head high and moves on toward his goals….. he’s a special human being in my book…….

  • sr4mjc

I guess touring is the only way to make real money in places where piracy is so prevalent?

  • Laury

I’m so happy with Adam’s numbers this week.

Anybody know where to find out what Oprah’s ratings went to when Adam was on?

And yes, I believe that illegal downloads are a huge problem. Everyone I know seems to do it.

  • Miss Chaos

I am happy Adam even got one more sale from the show. He is so awsome and glad more people got to see him. But hope he can move on to the Adam that he really could be, I dont see any person as pathetic, or his sales. Sadzzzz!

  • starstruck2000

The contestants from Season 8 are working so hard. It is unfortunate that sales aren’t coming as easily to them as they are to others. Watching how much effort Adam put into selling himself these past two weeks, I would never call the results “pathetic”. They are what they are. All Adam and the others can do is keep working. Every week they will see their efforts pay off, little by little. GO ADAM

Hmm, interesting how every positive Adam thing somehow gets flipped into a negative.

Whatevs. The Oprah boost WAS substantial – look at the HDD numbers – he had a 61% increase, and the next closest increase on the chart was 11% (most artists had drops in sales). So, yeah, I’ll take that anyday. WWFM also sold strong, and is still high on itunes even after the “Oprah Effect”, and the album saw a boost on Amazon just yesterday. Oh, and his vid is #1. Am I missing anything?

Yup- unfortunately- same here! In my age group, I’m almost the only one I know how actually buys CDs… oh, the arguments I constantly get into with my own brother!! So many people think that they’re just outsmarting the big fat record companies, and don’t realize that most of these artists that they like actually need those record companies!
Not everyone can make a good record in their own basement! And even if they could- who would promote them??? Nevermind, I think I’m preaching to the converted here- but we’re the minority, folks…

  • YankeeFan08

Adam is doing great! His album is selling and WWFM is moving up the charts. So proud of Adam!

  • cakeygirl

good job adam. yeah unfortunately every artist has to deal with pirating music. but good thing for adam is, they see him as a brand, and hes one of the only newbies out there with the potential to infiltrate music, fashion, film, etc. so good thing for him is that he can make money doing numerous things!

  • cakeygirl

the fact that adam is about to go gold and going gold in the u.s being an openly gay male is amazing to me!!

  • mttp

The kids from AI came from different backgrounds but they all have the same goal: to fulfill their dreams in music careers. They are all talented and working very hard. If I could not afford to buy all of their CDs to support them, I would wish them luck and would say something that could encourage them.

  • aa618892

saga and mr- I totally agree about the pirating trend ( I hope it is a trend). I have two daughters, 21 and 18, and they never pay for their extensive music libraries. I have had many discussions with them regarding this but to no avail. My 21 year old says all her college friends have Adam’s entire album including bonus tracks, studio versions from AI, etc. and they did not pay for a thing. The worst thing is I cannot convince her there is anything wrong with that.

  • agathe.hb

I have a substantial library of totally legit CD’s bought through “club membership” and discount sales, but my daughter downloads shitload of music for free -it’s a sad situation right now :(

Hey Soberba, just to give you some hope, I’m Brazilian too and my husband and I dont do illegal downloads lol. We are old school and like to buy cds, in special my rocker hubby. The fact that there is no itunes here for songs, only for apps, is a problem, since it seems that having to buy a cd intead of one or two songs makes the choice easier for the lazy and dishonest.

Hope the cd does well in Brazil… but I dont expect a lot of sales until any of the songs is promoted to radio, which hasnt happened yet. I got my FYE from Amazon US, but maybe will buy another one to gift my mother.

  • retjenny

I just got back from our local Walmart – not ONE Adam CD displayed anywhere. Su Bo was on several different display shelves. What’s up with that?

  • cher

Thank you Oprah!!! for showing your appreciation for Adam’s talent. It amazes me that some people will always try to criticize others’ achievements. Sometimes I put it down to human nature, but some are just plain meanspirited. Others seek out every Adam article just to make a hateful comment as well. I know also that some of Adam’s OTT fans have made mean comments about other idols, especially Kris too. However, that does not represent the norm. In a perfect world, we all would be happy for each other’s successes, but that wouldn’t be any fun, would it? lol That’s why we love this blog. To agree to disagree.:)

SuBo should be happy that a lot her CD buyers aren’t in an age group who tend to be very computer literate and comfortable downloading about anything. Maybe if Adam had the same fans SuBo does, his album sales would have been closer to what hers have been. Instead, he’s saddled with many younger fans who know their way around a computer blindfolded. ;)

  • Justin8602

I don’t see anything pathetic at all in the numbers for the week. He had a substantial increase and although he will most definitely have a drop next week, overall the single has been staying steadily higher on itunes than it has in the past, the album has been steady in the top 20 of Amazon, and althugh it’s significantly dropped on itunes, 2 outta 3 ain’t bad.

I didn’t realize how big music stealing still is. I was a freshman in college during napster’s heyday and I had like 10,000 songs at one point. Of course several computer crashes later, they’re all gone. I know once they cracked down on that I used limewire for a bit, but when the gov’t/industry started suing people for hundreds of thousands of dollars, I got too paranoid and stopped. But even when I was using the programs I still bought cd’s all the time. I personally wanted the cover art and stuff, not just the songs.

To this day I buy more cd’s than I download on itunes, I only use itunes really if I only want one song. I’d much rather have the physical cd and case for posterity over time. I’m in the minority on that one I know though.

  • kingmikol

I totally agree about the pirating trend ( I hope it is a trend)

Why do you hope pirating is a trend?

  • cher

Regarding this piracy thing, it’s so prevalent. Young people don’t realize or don’t care that this will affect their favorite artists’ careers. The more established artists are also affected, but the newbies are the ones that will feel this the most. My grocery store cashier (teenager) told me all her friends have Adam’s cd and when I even offered to buy her one, she told me no thanks, she already got a free download from Limewire. She says young people have limited money and I guess that’s the excuse. Some older people like moi would have no clue how to do this, so I go buy my cds honestly. haha.
If Oprah helped him sell even an extra 100 cds, that would be great. In this advanced electronic age, selling cds is a dying art. Oh, at my music retail store that buys back cds and sells them as used, the guy told me the younger people buy the cds, make multiple copies and sell them back to the store for less than half price and some others steal the cds, copy them and then bring them back to sell.

  • cwg509

The only way to deal with pirating which will not likely go away, is for Adam to also make money touring, selling merch, other activities (acting, fashion, hosting) and hope that he can get at least one huge hit along the way. Look at what a good song did for KOL. I have no doubt that he can have a long career with all his various talents. I feel a lot more nervous for other recent Idols I like such as David Cook, Allison, Kris.

It was a great month for Adam and with WWFM still with some room to go up, I think he’s going to be very happy this year (he still has an Idol season 9 performance to do sometime soon, right?)

Oh a little story from me. I went to Target over the weekend to purchase Adam’s FYE album (hard copy as I have the itunes version which I purchased through MJ site of course ;-) ) I could not find FYE. Though they did have plenty of the bastard album Take one. I asked the clerk if there were anymore of Adam Lambert CD’s left, he led me to the Take One album. (ARGH!) I politely said that I didn’t want that album but the For YOur Entertainment Album. He went in the back and came out with One CD of it. Said it was the only one he could find. It sorta looked like a bootleg version. The picture on the front just didn’t seem right. (maybe my eyesight is going) I am happy to have the hard copy but not so happy that the clerk was offering me the Take One Album when I was asking for the Adam Lambert CD. My experience. Anyone else have anything similar.

Oh I am in NYC btw.

  • didilynn

They’re completely out of FYE at my local Target – Northern Calif. – not sure if they have Take One.

  • wand3rful

I wonder who will take over as the Midas Queen once Oprah leaves next year….anything this lady promotes is eagerly bought by her audience. Cult like following, thats for sure! Maybe this bump in sales will jumpstart Adam’s career. Its been a bit stale since the AMAs.

  • asifclueless

    Welcome back my sweet LUV.

Is everything alright with you and your family? We missed you a lot here.

I was in DC. in December when we got 18 inches of snow. I think you were out of the country then.

Even back then when people were shopping for x-mas, I couldn’t find FYE at Target at all. But yes, a lot of Take One. As much as I wanted to hear Adam, I refused to buy any.

Fortunately, I found plenty of FYE at Best Buy for $13.99 each. I saved one unopened with my collection. Who knows? In the future I’ll tell my kids and grandkids how much obsession I have with Adam. I might be a part of the World Wide Mega Star in the making.

  • becpak

When Adam’s FYI first came out I got it at Walmart. It was displayed with Susan Boyle’s CD, Kris Allen’s, Carrie Underwoods and a few others and they were all on one display rack and had several of Susan Boyles making it look like her CD was hogging the display…..so what did I do? I situated hers from 10 going across the display to lining them up behind one another to about six going across and re-displayed more of Adam’s from about three across to about six across at eye level to make his more easily to view! I haven’t looked since then so I’m not sure if they still have any left, but that was around early Dec. I don’t care what the store clerks think – they probably could care less and never noticed.

  • sdmama

Ahhhh, Target. I have not seen a single copy in my San Diego stores, either. Only a rain-check when they theoretically had a sale. They do have a rack for him, however. Do they rally ran out of them so fast? How many did they order?

If RCA shopped 700,000 copies, and stores sold only 477,000, you can’t tell me that they can’t order more. Maybe their wholesale price is lower than what Barnes and Noble is getting, and they can’t get any more, or something.

I like the store a lot and use it all the time. This is the first time they totally failed me. (for 2 month!)

All of the three signed ones who have released albums so far, Kris, Adam, and Allison have stale-ish careers.

  • asifclueless

Adam’s career will be fine. He is multi talented. We will see a lot more of him. I don’t see any stale in his career. Actually it’s meteoric.

Remember? “I was a chorus boy in Wicked.” We hardly knew of him before A. Idol. Now he mingles with A list stars. Everybody wants a piece of him. Including me- hee hee, ngl.

  • nyc

I’d say having a gold album in the U.S. and Canada is something that Kris and Allison would both kill for at this point. Like I said, if Adam”s career is “stale-ish”, then Kris’ is Dead On Arrival.
I wonder how many artists would love to have a 40 minute segment on Oprah? If performing on The Oprah Show is evidence of a stale career, what would performing at the “Meet Ball” be considered?

  • melirose89

LMAO stale career, that’s laughable. i think everyone here, no matter if they’re a fan of Adams or not, knows that this is the most far fetched statement that could be made. Adam’s rise has been meteoric and he’s only become MORE famous since the AMAs hahaha

i dont know how a 40 minute appearance on oprah, appearances on ellen, different talks shows, radio shows, appearing on E!, ET, extra, the insider, access hollywood, almost every other day, landing the cover of various magazines, and having a gold album in the US and Canada, as well as a quick rise on the charts for WWFM, being invited to the Critics Choice Awards and SAG awards, and doing correspondence for the Grammys is evidence of a stale career! i catch Adam on television when im not even looking for him.

LMAO Kris, and Allison better pack their bags and go home then! (which i dont want to happen tho, i love them, but you know what i mean) haha

There are many reasons I like this video:

    > the demo-graphic of the fans – young and cool and more males
    > everybody has the physical cds of FYE, some have more than one
    – We were talking about how common in music piracy upthreads. So it’s good to see that they did buy FYE cds. They are buying geniune CDs from US and Japan. Also one website has tutorial to teach people there how to buy music on iTune. http://www.adamlambert.com.cn I think to get the genuine CD is to get the real piece of Arts.

saga and mr- I totally agree about the pirating trend ( I hope it is a trend).

Here’s my suggestion: When your daughter gets her next job, quietly go to her employer and inform him/her that your daughter believes that people should work for nothing, so you’d appreciate it if, in keeping with her values, they would not give her any paychecks but just a smile and a big thank you each week…..

Maybe that would make a dent in her thinking …

All of the three signed ones who have released albums so far, Kris, Adam, and Allison have stale-ish careers.

    Danny is our great hope.

One very smart thing in going country for Danny was that rumor has it country fans still don’t steal as much music as fans of other genres….. If he’s lucky, that situation won’t change materially too soon. … Wouldn’t bet on it, though. Now we’ve got a lot of people growing into adults who’ve been stealing music all their lives and just take it totally for granted.

  • Planet Fierce

I agree with the Target confusion. I have gone to several in the area and either they don’t have it at all or there is only one or two. I have done this several times before during and after the holidays. Something just doesn’t seem right with that. I gifted about 7 over the holidays and I had to run around to get all of them….what’s up with that, it was only 7 not 70. I commented to my husband at the time,….something just isn’t right here!

  • OhMyRawrrr

My local target was out of FYE through the holidays, but always had Take One. Just checked it on Tuesday, and they have finally restocked FYE. Also saw Take One – arghhh – I can’t believe that crap cd is getting distribution in major stores.

What a statement. Sad, but maybe true.
However it seems Adam’s career seems to be taking on speed again. Maybe Oprah’s blessing finally gave those folks who didn’t know what to make of the AMA’s permission to publically like Adam again.

i dont know how a 40 minute appearance on oprah, appearances on ellen, different talks shows, radio shows, appearing on E!, ET, extra, the insider, access hollywood, almost every other day, landing the cover of various magazines, and having a gold album in the US and Canada, as well as a quick rise on the charts for WWFM, being invited to the Critics Choice Awards and SAG awards, and doing correspondence for the Grammys is evidence of a stale career! i catch Adam on television when im not even looking for him.

    1) Adam is not gold yet. (Probably a couple of more weeks)
2)All that promo and still can’t outsell David Archuletta
    3) The percentage of illegal downloading is likely similar across all Top 40 artists. It’s not really an excuse for mediocre sales.
4)Every year Idol fans complain their favorite is out of stock at Walmart and Target. Again not really an excuse.
    5) 2 musical performances in month of January. Not much of a musician, really.
    6) Toronto interview from hair salon, enough said.

No FYI in my local Walmart since it came out, plenty of Carrie, SueBo, Kris, David A, and David C. How can Adam sell if they are not restocking them. There were plenty on the day they released it. There were plenty of Kris too on release date. Adam sold out, and never restocked. Wanted to buy a couple more for friends, but not running all over the place. This is Tampa Fla area. Yes it is an excuse!!!!!!!!!!

No doubt, it’s a tough ecomony out there, and with music stealing and the like, it’s harder than it’s ever been for these kids. However, I am not worried about Adam. I still feel that he will be big worldwide. Love him or hate him, Simon Cowell is usually correct with his predictions. Other, so called experts in the music industry, realize Adam’s talent too.
Kris for me was always a come from behind, slow starter-big finisher type. He should be fine too! LLWD is doing well! Kris is talented and very likeable. I predict he will do well in the US but may not do as well overseas as Adam.
Allison, a huge talent to me, concerns me the most at this point. She is like an old soul type of singer/throw back/classic rocker swagger in a young body. Not sure where she fits in the music world. I hope she releases a second single soon that is more in line with what suits her voice and style best! If so, she will rock the charts!
Danny is another talented guy. I truly feel he will do extremely well! One b/c he is talented and two b/c he is going into what I consider to be a very successful genre of music (country/crossover/pop) like Swift, Underwood, Rascal Flatts. He may do better than a lot think he will do but I believe he too will find most of his success right here in the US.
I am concerned about all this talk not finding FYE in stores. So many reported the same thing I wonder how to follow up with this. I also do not like hearing that Take One is out there, representing “Adam” to people who may not realize they are not buying the “right” cd. Any suggestions or thoughts who or where to contact to give a head’s up about the difficulty finding FYE? Thanks!

    1) He has shipped gold. He’s gold. This isn’t an unusual case or a stretch, it’s how the industry does things.
    2) Adam’s and Archie’s album sales numbers are comparable. Album sales for the year are down 13%. Plus, Adam has been charting higher than Archie did in January. Adam is picking up steam and moving up the charts. Archie was dropping completely off.
    3) It is a reason that album sales are down 13%. It is a concern for all musical artists.
4)We know this. People aren’t saying that Adam isn’t
selling due to this. Posters aren’t making excuses. They are just reporting.
Who’s making excuses anyways? Adam just sold 4x what Kris sold. He is gold and has stayed in the top 50 and is moving up, not down. Who’s complaining?
    5) Those two musical performances were seen and heard by millions of people. It’s hard to look at singing on Oprah and Ellen’s birthday show as negatives.

^^^^ It doesn’t matter what Adams sales are compared to anyone or any idol, what matters is what Sony/RCA thinks and for as Adams fans are concerned they are pretty happy to have Adam. With all the whining of all the promotions he’s getting I would say that RCA has his back. For those who feel he should be busting his butt playing at fairs, casinos, supper clubs that ain’t happening. 19/M is doing a good job with Adam. Adam is a singer/performer/actor/showmanship and I see no reason why he should stick to one thing. The farther he goes away from AI the better for his future.

Thank You NYC. Both of you posted your view point on the matter so neither is wrong I just happen to agree with your viewpoint more NYC. I wanted to respond after Zanderlost expressed their opinion but felt no matter what I was writing it was coming across as defensive or attacking (which I did not want to be) but your post expresses my viewpoint and it does in neutrally (which is as it should be) so Thank you.

Oh, I agree, sweetni4. I mostly wanted to see if Adam’s sales are fairly typical of this year. I found the answer to my own question. It looks as if:
John Mayer (released 1 week before Adam) is at about 650k
Norah Jones (released 1 week before Adam) is at 490k
Justin Bieber (released 1 week before Adam) is at 600k
Rhianna (released at the same time as Adam) is at 480k

Of course, there’s Subo and Taylor and Gaga who are outpacing everyone else. Then, there’s Shakira, 50 Cent and Chris Brown who are under-performing. But, it looks as if Adam is keeping pace with those released along with him. And he has yet to fall out of the Top 50 (and was only out of the Top 40 one week.) I’m sure RCA is happy with his sales, and I’m sure they know that WWFM is not only doing well on its own as a single, but is doing its job by selling the album.

    Right on!
All 3 of your posts were exactly what I was going to say and you said it perfectly.

Seems like one out of ten mentions/articles on Adam’s sales want to say he is stalling or not peforming to standard and no offense to anyone but Adam’s sales are great! And only getting better.
His album has only been out 9 weeks and he’s shipped gold people!
I can’t wait to hear about the reception he is going to get overseas. This can only get better.

Are we going to have a BD thread here? Or I’ll have to go somewhere else to celebrate. It seems very quiet here. Where have all the glamfans gone?

^^^Zues thanks for bringing over the facts. I feel that there are some who want to set the bar so high for Adam so if he fails to meet their standards they will label him a failure. Both Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry sales are no where near what they sold before, does that mean they are failures? David Archuletta had one hit and his second single failed
Cook sold well ,but he is”out of sight out of mind” does anyone no who he his?Touring for a full year not being visible and singing to your choir hasn’t proven that he has left the AI bubble. His 2nd CD will tell the real story. Most of Adams fans never watched AI before Adam, my hope is that he sheds all the pearl clutchers and move far away from idol. His real fans will accept him for who he is without conditions on how he looks, what he wears ,how much makeup uses , what he says and how he wants to handle his own career.

Just want to add along the lines of the Oprah bump –
‘Whataya Want from Me’ is charting on Billboard as follows:
37 on the Hot 100 Chart
    26 on the Pop Chart
29 on the Digital Songs CHart
11 on the Canadian Hot 100
    32 on Adult Pop Songs
all peak positions for this song.
Great news along with the 59% bump in sales.

    6) Toronto interview from hair salon, enough said

Well not as if it was BY a salon, it was by a national paper in their arts section that happened to take place there. Who knows if that was the only time Adam has free? Not as if he hasn’t been doing tons of interviews with radio stations, the music channels, the normal talk-show circuit. So this interview happened to take place there, eh. Who knows? But not as it wasn’t an Arts section of a newspaper or that he hasn’t done tons of music related interviews. So guess nuff said.

This is a great point and I’m glad you posted it here. Compared to other albums released at about the same time, Adam is performing really solidly. And for those who say “but what about all the hype and promotion!”, Rihanna and Shakira have been EVERYWHERE, as hyped and doing as much if not more promotion than Adam. He has outperformed some big names, and is holding his own with others.

If Adam’s career is stale, then what is Kris’ career outlook? DOA?
He might as well move back to Arkansas.

ummm, who was talking about kris??? not I, not MJ, not anyone else on this thread. whats your point?

anyhoo, yes adam’s MUSIC career has been stuck at a limbo. much promotion yet until oprah, it didnt materialize in radio play/single sales. (i still believe OTT fans are buying multiple album copies, hence the almost gold certification). the interview and appearance have placed back the focus where it belongs…his voice, the music.

  • nyc

ummm, who was talking about kris??? not I, not MJ, not anyone else on this thread. whats your point?

    ummm, I was.
My point is that if 480K + 40K(in Canada) is bad, then the winner of AI needs to pack up and go home because his sales are less than half of that.
Adam is selling albums at the same pace as those who released around the same time. (No, I’m not counting SuBo or Gaga who are giants) He is in the same range as the Bieber kid, Rihanna and Norah Jones. He is selling more than 50 Cent and Shakira. He has yet to fall out of the Top 50 (and was only out of the Top 40 one week.) I’m sure RCA is happy with him.
Kirsten has said that OTT fans cannot affect sales to a large extent. I think I will trust what she says since she has watched and reported the numbers for years.
FYE is gold. KA is nowhere close. WWFM is moving at an impressive rate to have only been out for 8 weeks!

um his sales are acceptable(I think he’s gonna get at least another single and album with 19) but all of those artist you named have sold a respectful amount more then him. From the sale number’s I’ve seen Rihanna is selling 550k, Norah jones has sold 650k, and Justin bieber has sold more them a million. I’m not trying to dimish his sales I just think that the other artist are a little out of his range at the moment( I think Justin will be gone in about a year and I think Adam could have some staying power)

FYE is gold. KA is nowhere close.

While I’ll fully admit that Kris allen’s album is flopping I don’t think it’s fair to compare them since Adam’s gotten a huge amount more promotion then Kris has. JMO though.
