Predictably we said goodbye to Luke Friend last night. He was the only decent contestant left. And so we are left with a cruise ship singer and foetus Buble. Both seem to be “Dead On Arrival”. Whoever wins likely won’t be around for long. I think Sam Bailey is going to win tonight. Nicole Scherzinger totally wiped the floor with everyone last night. Unless Scotland really has some special voting powers, it’s Sam’s to lose.

Tonight we can looks forward to performances from One Direction, Katy Perry and Gary Barlow & Elton John.

TOP 2 will each reprise one song tonight:
Nicholas McDonald – Angel (Sarah McLachlan)
Sam Bailey – Power Of Love (Jennifer Rush)

Potential winner’s singles:
Nicholas McDonald – Superman (Five for Fighting)

Sam Bailey – Skyscraper (Demi Lovato)

Yep, “Skyscraper”. Union J recorded this song as their potential winner’s single last year before they finished 4th. Then the song ended up on their debut album. X Factor is not letting it go, through. They will make this song happen no matter what. Just like they did last year with “Impossible”. It was Cher Lloyd’s potential winner’s single in season 7 and then James Arthur finally got to release it when he won season 9.

So, this is it. Tonight we will find out who opens Beyonce’s tour in February. Oh dear.

The judges enter through the huge doors, one last time.

Time for a group number! They are destroying Katy Perry’s “Roar”. Damn, looking back, how did those two bores end up being the final 2? Dire. But Louis is digging it.

Recap of last night. Yep, we need to see and hear Nicholas murder “Candy” once again. Luke was cut out of this recap.

One Direction perform “Midnight Memories“. The intro says they’ve sold 38 millions records worldwide. Three years ago they were only X Factor UK season 7 3-rd place finishers. They will be playing Wembley STADIUM in May.

Nicholas McDonald – Angel (Sarah McLachlan)

This is his mother’s favorite song.
Nick has orchestra on stage and some dancers. He sings prettily, but it’s super boring.
Sharon: I agree with your mum, it’s one of my favorite songs ever.
Gary: I was harsh on you last night, but that’s what you should be doing.
Nicole: I can’t wait to buy that song off iTunes and curl up for the holidays.
Louis: All i wanna say, you’ve been an awesome contestant all season …

Louis is wearing McDonald tartan trousers.

Sam Bailey – Power Of Love (Jennifer Rush)

Sam performed this on the first live show. I think her vocal was better back then, but that’s probably she is tired.
Gary: You could have sung any song from this series.
Nicole: You make it look too easy.
Louis: You are what this show is all about!
Sharon: Sam, 10 weeks! You’ve been a winner for me first time you walked into the audition room.

The judges get their own recap of the series. Gary Barlow and Sharon Osbourne are leaving the show after this season.

Katy Perry performs “Unconditionally“. In a cage. She sounds terrible.

WINNER’S SINGLES:
Nicholas McDonald – Superman (Five for Fighting)

Sooo boring and lifeless. Nicole’s face is expressionless!
Sharon: You came into this X Factor show as a little boy and in 10 weeks your turned into nice young man. That song was amazing.
Gary: Congratulations, what a transformation!
Nicole: That song was absolutely perfect for you.
Louis: Everybody, if you want Nicholas to win, you have to vote now!

Caroline Flack interviews Nick’s mother. It’s impossible to hear anything. And now … some messages from family and friends to Nicholas. Dermot is trying to get Nick to say something coherent. No luck.

Sam Bailey – Skyscraper (Demi Lovato)

Some shaky parts at the beginning. Sam is just not connecting emotionally to this song, I’m afraid. Demi’s original is untouchable. I’m sorry, this was underwhelming.
Gary: You’ve stolen the hearts of the nation …
Nicole: You made me look like a hot mess … You are the voice … the timing is everything. This is your time, right now.
Louis: You deserve to be on that stage. Sam, that is going to be a #1 record!
Sharon:

Caroline interviews Sam’s family. Sam’s son Tommy is really cute. Video from family and friends for Sam.

Gary Barlow and Elton John perform “Face to Face”. Yep, now Sir Elton John is selling out (“I’m not a fan of talent shows. I probably wouldn’t have lasted if I’d gone on one. “It’s become boring, arse-paralysingly brain crippling.”).
The world is ending.
After the performance, Dermot is trying to interview them on stage and Elton looks really uncomfortable. He did this because Gary is a friend of his. Oh yeah.

The lines are now closed.

The results!

Not so much a Roar as a snore? Tamera leads X Factor finalists in underwhelming pre-recorded opening performance
It was expected to be one of the big highlights from the very last X Factor show of the season, but when returning contestants, led by Tamera Foster, performed what appeared to be a pre-recorded group rendition of Katy Perry’s Roar it sounded like more of a snore.

Perhaps the reason for this was that Perry herself had only just weeks ago performed the song on the show AND made it one of the real highlights of the season.

By coincidence Katy was back again on the Sunday night final to sing her new single Unconditionally.
