The auditions start on the road tonight. Dermot and Simon got stuck in the traffic. We are in Liverpool.

And Simon is late, so the other three judges start all alone. Louis Walsh is now the boss and sits in the middle. We are starting with Irish auditioners. How fitting.

Megan Byrne – 26 year old freelace make-up artist from Ireland. She sings Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ ‘I Put A Spell On You’. She has a really unique sound, to put it mildly. The three judges are making some incredible faces. It’s a NO from the judges.

Mark Mckeown – 35 year old accounts sales manager from Ireland. He sings Westlife’s ‘If I Let You Go’. A guy from Ireland is singing Westlife to Louis Walsh?

Alice Stafford – 32 year old full-time mum from Ireland. She is singing Shakira’s ‘Whenever, wherever’ and she is terrible.

And then, Simon shows up to raise the bar.

Jamesy (James Alton) – junior cruise ship director from Derby. He sings Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’. Terrible singing and dancing. So much for raising the bar! He tells the judges that he is choosing the X Factor instead of his cruise ship job. Simon tells him to go on a cruise ship and the other judges agree.

Chloe Rose Moyle – 16 year old student from Fleetwood, Lancashire. She is auditioning with an original song ‘Holding Out For Us’. It’s about ‘somebody not being right for me right now, but might be in the future’. The song is kinda basic and the singing is nothing special. But the judges are all over her. Simon calls her ‘quirky’. 4 YESes.

Harry Holmes – 20 year old student from Liverpool, originally from Stoke-On-Trent. He sings an original song ‘Girl Who Stayed The Night’. Louis calls him ‘natural’.

Descendance – Hayley (21) and Debye (40), mother and daughter singing duo from Belfast, Northern Ireland, originally from Canada. The mum looks very youthful. They sing Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ ‘Can’t Hold Us’. It’s a mess. Sharon says the daughter is phenomenal, but her mother should be a DJ in a booth. All judges like Hayley and want Debye to be there for her daughter in some other way. Simon decides to judge them as a group. 4 YESes.

Queen A (Ashleigh Jade Warwick) – 31 year old recruitment worker from Wokingham. She says she like to be a leader and have followers. She only started singing in 2015. She is seriously deluded. This is going to be a disaster. She sings a medley of Celine Dion, Salt N Pepa and R Kelly songs. 4 NOs.

The Clique – Corey (20), Jason (27), Rowland (29). They are all in black and wearing heels. They are murdering Little Mix’s ‘Touch’. Simon says NO, the other three say YES, just to piss off Simon.

Taliah Dalorto – 19 year old secretary from Essex. She claims she is unique. She is singing Aretha Franklin’s ‘Ain’t No Way’. Big, deep voice. Surely, she is getting through. Yep, the judges are all falling all over themselves. Sharon says she has the performance of an older woman. 4 YESes.

Gary Barker – 29 year old full-time dad of 2 and a pub singer from Liverpool. He is singing Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ ‘Uptown Funk’ and he at least isn’t terrible. He did pick some bad habits while gigging in pubs. The judges aren’t happy with his performance, so Gary sings Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’. The judges respond to this performance better. 4 YESes.
