Motown tunes for Leona Lewis
Leona Lewis is recording a Christmas album with a Motown feel — on the advice of Simon Cowell.
The 28-year-old is currently working in a studio in Los Angeles with top producing team Biffco after her X Factor mentor suggested the idea.
She told the Standard: “Simon is still very much involved in my career and helps me out. He came up with the Christmas album idea, and we both kind of felt it was the right time to go ahead with it.
“I’m doing some classics with quite a Motown feel. There’s also going to be a bit of original material in there.
“I’m pretty excited about it as I’ve never done anything like this before. There are proper Motown, soulful songs that I can really just enjoy. It’s so musical and I’m getting back to what I love doing.”

‘We talk about girls we might have slept with’: Olly Murs opens up about his close bond with Robbie Williams… and his hopes to be as successful as his pal
Like a lot of young lads who dreamt about being a singer, I was a massive fan of Robbie Williams and couldn’t believe my luck when not only did I get to meet my idol, but sing with him too.
That was three-and-a-half years ago, on the final of the X-Factor 2009 when we performed a duet together to his hit single Angels. All the finalists duetted with a celebrity and Joe McElderry, who sang with George Michael eventually won the show while I was runner-up.
But in my mind I was already a winner because I was singing with one of the greatest entertainers of all time. I can still remember feeling utter astonishment as I introduced Robbie onstage.
I think I said something like: “I can’t believe I’m saying this. Everyone wants to be his mate. It’s Robbie Williams.” And on he came! For me, an Essex boy who’d been scratching a living working in telesales, it was beyond anything I dared to dream.

DeXperate measures
Auditions panic to find groups
THE X FACTOR has held a day of last-minute auditions as the show desperately searches for decent groups.
They are looking for acts good enough to live up to One Direction and Little Mix.
Judges Gary Barlow, Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh have only put a handful of groups through to the second round of arena auditions.
They were severely unimpressed with the level of talent on offer — despite heavy use of scouts and YouTube auditions in the early stages.
The groups category is traditionally the weakest.
The panel are frequently forced to manufacture groups at the boot camp and judges’ houses stages — as they did with Little Mix and One Direction.
