Mel B joins The X Factor: it’s the strongest judging lineup in years
The former Spice Girl’s past turn as a judge was a true revelation of splenetic anger. Provided she doesn’t keel over in a rage-induced seizure, there’s a good chance she could prove the salvation of this ailing show
Usually at this time of year, with a new series of X Factor looming on the horizon, it’s normal to feel a surge of unstoppable dread. Dread at having to watch Gary Barlow slow-puncture all the fun out of the room again. Dread at having to see Nicole Scherzinger crane her neck around like an attention-starved toddler whenever she says the word “balls”. Dread at watching a past-its-peak show sink further and further into the abyss.
But today things are different. Thanks to the news that Mel B has joined X Factor as a judge, you might even feel a glimmer of hope. Because, on paper, this is the best judging lineup that X Factor has ever had.

Robbie Williams offers lads Direction: Robster counsels 1D after drugs shame video
ROBBIE Williams has given One Direction his 25 years of pop wisdom over their drugs shame video.
And it’s: Next time don’t get caught!
The Robster is no stranger to the odd drink and drugs controversy after having two spells in rehab to battle with his own addictions.
But despite the odd booze-induced hiccup Robbie has now settled down, got married and become a dad.
He’s also managed to keep hold of his pop crown for over 20 years, so you’d think he’d be the perfect mentor for 1D and under-fire US pop star Justin Bieber.
But apparently the Rock DJ’s profound advice stretches to: “I think they should stop getting caught.
“I managed to not get caught until I was at least 23.
“Drop a shoulder, sell them a dummy, but whatever you do don’t get caught on video.”
Robster then quickly added: “I love them all dearly, they are all my showbiz brothers even though I haven’t met Justin Bieber.”

Rebecca Ferguson: ‘I want to work with Kanye West’
Rebecca Ferguson has revealed that she would love to work with Kanye West in the future.
The ‘I Hope’ singer told Digital Spy that she considers the US rapper “fascinating”, and suggested that he would be an ideal producer for her third studio album.
She said: “I’m recording my next album in August. I’d like to work with Kanye as a producer, because his mind fascinates me.
“I know he gets a lot of stick, but I think musically he’s future-thinking. I’m getting a bit bored at the minute [with other music]… I’m just craving something different.”
Speaking about whether she would be interested in making a more pop-inspired album, she said: “I’m playing with music and working on different types of music. But I’ve realised that I can’t really stray from what is my marker.
“So there’s certain people that do pop well. Beyoncé’s one of them, Rihanna, Rita Ora, I could go on and on. You’ve got to recognise what your talent and niche is.
“You’ve got to be the best you can be. I do love dance music, but at the same time I’m not looking to put out a big pop album.”

Ella Henderson’s Ghost debuts at Number 1 with spooktacular sales
X Factor star Ella Henderson claims one of the fastest selling singles of 2014 so far with Ghost.
Congratulations to Ella Henderson who has gone straight in at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart today with her debut release, Ghost.
According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, more than 132,000 copies of Ghost were purchased in the UK over the last seven days, earning the 18-year-old from Tetney, Lincolnshire the fourth fastest selling single of 2014 so far.
“It feels incredible,” Ella tells OfficialCharts.com. “I just can’t believe it! I’ve taken my time away, writing, and coming back into it with all this support is amazing.”
Ghost was co-written by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, who has also penned tracks for the likes of Leona Lewis, Ellie Goulding, Beyonce and Adele.
“When you think about the people Ryan works with, it was definitely overwhelming being in the same room as him,” admits Ella. “He gets to pick and choose who he works with, and to say I got to write my first single with him is insane!”
Ella Henderson first shot to fame two years ago after appearing in the 2012 series of the X Factor. Despite being hotly tipped to win the show, Ella was eliminated in seventh week of the live rounds after going head-to-head with James Arthur. X Factor host Dermot O’Leary described her exit as “one of the biggest shocks we’ve ever had on the results show.”
