One Direction go global: Canadian officials shut down Toronto street as thousands of fans gather for a glimpse of the boys
They are at the top of their game on home turf, selling out their arena tour in minutes after fans queued for up to 40 hours to get their hands on tickets.

But One Direction have taken their quest for super stardom global, and judging by the overwhelming reception they have received in Canada this week, they’re off to a flying start.

Officials were forced to shut down the street outside the Toronto headquarters of Much Music when the band stopped by to make their first appearance on Canadian television.

Zayn Malik has been forced to pull out of One Direction’s North American tour following the death of his aunt.

The 19-year-old singer rushed back to the UK yesterday to make it to her funeral.

The teen heartthrob will miss several dates on the tour, where the boy band are supporting US group Big Time Rush.

And while One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful is currently No.25 in the U.S.iTunes main charts, The Wanted’s Glad You Came is at No.2.

They’re Glad You Came! The Wanted outstrip Take That to become the most successful UK boy band in America
The Wanted have made it to No.5 in the US Charts with their UK number one Glad You Came.

Their success outstrips even that of Take That who got to No.7 with Back For Good in 1995.

The group saw a massive boost in sales after the song was featured during an episode of Glee.
