X Factor – The 12 Are Chosen – VIDEO

While Simon Cowell celebrated his 50th birthday this weekend, his UK talent show, the X Factor aired its Judges’ Houses episodes.

Saturday night, the Top 24 sang for their respective mentors, literally all over the world, then on Sunday, the 24 were whittled down to 12.

After the jump, check out who made the cut.   I also linked the finalists to their Judges’ Houses auditions so you get a feel for who they are.

There’s a nicely organized list of videos HERE.   Clips from tonight’s eliminations are posted. The cute American from Chicago didn’t make it, and True Colorz were disqualified because one of their members was underage.

Also, the Guardian recaps both shows HERE.

I haven’t had the chance to watch these clips yet, but those of you who have, what do you think?   Do you agree with the eliminations or not?

  1. I think Simon made three stupid choices.

Danyl and Jamie both had great first auditions but when they got to Bootcamp, they sucked, IMO.

Olly is kinda lame, kinda… i don’t know. Silly, maybe?

Anyway, I thought Nicole, Treyc and The former-boy-band-member were much better these past performances. Well… they still have the girls and Miss Frank to save the day. But I really miss Misfitz.

  2. Really the only judge who had it easy was Louie. He really didn’t have any good groups to choose from. The best actually is the group the judges put together themselves during Boot Camp (Miss Frank). In some ways they remind me a little of Salt & Pepa when the one gets into rapping. Don’t know WTF Louie was thinking taking those obnoxious twins. Then again the other groups weren’t very good at all.
Kandy Rain is a group of ex-strippers and yet the UK has no problem with their past professions. They would have been given the boot from a US version of the show.

I think Cheryl is taking a risk with Lloyd. He probably had the weakest vocals of the six she had to pick from but I’m sure he’ll pull in the tweenie vote like crazy. He really is a cutie pie at 16. I didn’t think Evan would make it if only because he’s actually American and only going to school there. The opera guy was just…. strange.

I liked Danyl’s first audition but he really was trying waaaayyyy too hard at bootcamp and in this final audition. A real turnoff for me. I hope that’s what Simon will work on for him. Kind of sad that Daniel P didn’t make it instead. But… he’s already had a career of sorts before. Olly has underdog written all over him. And Jamie is the old man at 34.

I was a little surprised by the girls. That Stacey is a real airhead, IMO. But I suppose some viewers will like her because of it.

At any rate I’m excited for next week.; much more than I’ve ever been for the start of Idol. I think XF did a pretty good job of giving the Top 12 equal-ish airtime. If I lived in the UK I wouldn’t know who to vote for; I still don’t have a favorite. It’s a very likable group. Although I’m hoping those dang twins go home first!

  3. I think a lot of dross were put through to the live finals .. IMO Simon had the hardest choice as all 6 of his category were better than a lot of the others who were put through.

Jamie has been my favourite right from the start and he still is .. I loved his song at the judges houses (it’s one of my favourite Oasis songs ad whilst he doesn’t have the best voice technically I like his presentation and the way he connects with the lyrics. I’m also looking forward to some different songs from him than the usual oversung one’s that turn up year after year on these shows. Plus I think he’s a very likeable guy.

I liked Danyl originally but I think he tries too hard now and is a bit “odd”

Don’t know why Ollie was put through as I thought that Daniel Pearce and Treyc were far better than him, but Simon does have a point with him already winning one of these shows before but leaving the band after a year or so .. although why put him through this far.

As for the other categories .. I’m tend to prefer male voices over females so I’m not really excited about any of them .. I find them all very samey and pretty bland

Not impressed with any of the 6 boys really and I don’t think Cheryl put the strongest 3 through .. I think she went on “cute little boy looks” rather than singing ability as that seems to get votes over here .. I think Rikki and Lloyd are weak and wet .. personally I would have put Ethan through as I think he has a better voice than both of them and is far better looking

Can’t think of anything nice to say about the groups so should probably shut up .. to me they’re all dire. The best of the bunch is probably Miss FRANK altough I don’t think they have any chemistry and to me are still 3 individual singers who are all a bit shouty. Less said about Kandy Rain the better .. they can’t sing and look like they’ve just come home from their “night time” jobs ..lol … and those twins can’t sing in tune, can’t harmoise and can’t remember the words .. but I bet they stay on the show because of the entertainment value.

If the voting goes to the norm with X factor voting one of the girl groups will be the first off as girl groups have a terrible history on the show. .. I have a feeling that Kandy Rain will be performing in the clubs again in a couple of weeks .. and I don’t mean singing (meowwww …lol)

  4. Too bad about Ethan. I really liked him. His performance could have been stronger, but I like how he put his own spin on the song. I think Ethan is more commercial than Lloyd and Joe, but they might be going more for the teen demographic with them. I wasn’t sure how the American thing would play out. I can understand it though with opportunities few and far between. With just this exposure, I think Ethan might find doors opening for him. In the end did his looks work against him? lol

Not too interested in anyone else. Oh, well…

  5. I’m looking forward to next week, not sure what the theme is, rumours say Best of British but nothing’s confirmed ….

.. the biggest thing I’m looking forward to next week though if the results show as Robbie Williams is making his UK TV show return to sing his new single “Bodies” … whoooooooooo!!!!!!!

  6. I haven’t had the chance to watch these clips yet, but those of you who have, what do you think? Do you agree with the eliminations or not?

I think they made the right choice, they are motivated to choose potential winners to have bragging rights over the other judges.

Louis is done, all the groups stink, maybee he gets lucky and the twins can pick up fans and go top 5 (the x factor audience seems to love their gimmicky and cheesy acts)

I don’t think Cheryl is in a much better position, Lloyd can go far based on the cute factor but no way he’s going to win.

Dannii has a strong group, I think Lucie Jones has a good shot at winning, she has a good voice, she’s likeable and will survive the first couple of weeks just with the welsh vote (couldn’t the producers be more obvious with that?).

Simon has the strongest group, I didn’t mind him choosing Olly over the other three even tough he had a worse audition because the others don’t have the potential to win IMO. I like Jamie, he’s the only one I am interested in seeing perform but I am not sure he’s marketable.

  7. I would have like Ethan to go through.
The twins… geez I tought they would be eliminated there but it’s good for the drama of the show because they are a bit creepy

  8. Ok with all with the exception of John and Edward Grimes; sometimes I just want to smack those boys!

  9. The girl who sang lead in MISS Frank reminds me soo much of an Asian Kelly Clarkson- same face/personality/strong voice. Crazy Crazy Crazy. I actually think shes my favorite contestant of anybody, just wish she was by herself (even though their group rocks).

Ethan should have made it over Lloyd- Lloyd was terrible IMO- had no idea how to interpret that JMraz song. Yell much?

Loved Jamie the best after initial auditions, kinda fell short afterwards (not as bad as Danyl tho- God i think he is way too over the top and lacks some serious control). At Least ONE of the 2 african american chicks should have made it thru over one of them because they blew them away completely (i prefer Treyc- she had the best voice of anybody IMO, that, regardless of her lack of star quality, that should have landed her a spot in the 12 alone).

I don’t think Danyl has a shot in hell at winning now- i could break it down from past trends, but just take my word for it. I think Jamie, MISS Frank, and Lucie Jones (amazing voice) should be in the Finale.

Overall, not too impressed with this season, especially compared to some of the powerhouses they had last year.

  10. Oh, and John & Edward cannot sing. At all. I don’t even think they know how to harmonize or better yet, what that even is. They are obnoxious, attention-hungry, untalented little punks if you ask me. They seems to have NO desire or passion for music, its all about the fame/glory/celebrity.Wish they would let someone else from one of the other categories in. I hope Simon verbally embarrasses them after each one of their performances (praying that it will only happen next week and then they are gone). It’s a crying shame that someone of that caliber makes it thru based on everything else other than what this show is about – singing.

  11. Maybe Simon didn’t want cheryl to send Ethan thourgh so he could be saved for idol

  12. MOst of them are overrated. …Stacey is the only one i like cuz of her sweet voice .

By the way , Australian Idol is going for Top 8 this week. YOu can watch it here .

  13. Maybe Simon didn’t want cheryl to send Ethan thourgh so he could be saved for idol

But he supposedly lives in the U.K.

I haven’t watched all the contestants, but how do these 12 rank against the usual top 12 on Idol — and I know there’s a range of “the usual?” But, even the weak season 6 had Melinda Doolittle in it, who was arguably one of the best Idol singers of all seasons.

I honestly think out of all of them, 1 would probably make the top 12

  15. Boys (16-24) Mentored by Cheryl Cole (Judges’ House in Morocco)
    Joseph McElderry
    Lloyd Daniels
    Rikki Loney
I don’t care for any of these boys. I think Ethan should have made it over any of them. I liked Opera guy too. He was different and could sing…even if he Ill Divoed every song.

Girls (16-24) Mentored by Dannii Minogue (Judges’ House in Dubai)
    Lucie Jones
    Stacey Soloman
    Rachel Adedeji
Probably the strongest group out of all of them. Rachel is amazing.

Over 25 ‘“ Mentored by Simon Cowell (Judges House’ in Los Angeles)
    Danyl Johnson
    Jamie Archer
    Olly Murs
I think Treyc should have made it over Olly. Danyl made it because of his first audition. Lets hope the big stage brings him back. Although it may already be too late. Jamie’s great. He is a better singer then I thought he was.

Groups ‘“ Mentored by Louis Walsh (Judges House’ in Italy)
    John and Edward Grimes
    Kandy Rain
    Miss Frank
I can’t stand the twins. They have been horrible from the beginning. Miss Frank is the best of the groups. The girl that raps has a voice similar to Kelly Clarkson. I think Miss Frank has a serious chance of winning.

  16. Cheryl – boys: don’t really care about anyone of them but my girls are all rooting for Lloyd. (meh! Aw, the young!)

Louis – groups: LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Miss Frank! She totally rocked when she threw in the Spanish rap!

Those twin brats would be over my knee! (Ugh! At least we know they’ll be the first eliminated!)

Dannii – girls – Stacey Soloman is my fav! Such a genuine and sweet young lady with an amazing voice!

Simon – overs – Jamie is fav! My heart stopped when Simon told him he was going home!

Dannii & Simon by far had the biggest challenge. ALL the girls were fantastic! Tracy and Daniel should have been with Jamie. But my Jamie made it, so I’m all good!

If I could vote, I’d vote Jamie, Stacey and Miss Frank to the finals … after that I’m stuck! But I just LOVE this show!

okay, done … time to check how Adam is doing! (oops, sorry mj)

  17. From what I’ve seen online, I agree about Jamie and Rachel. To me, they are the most, naturally talented of those they decided to put through. (The voters haven’t been a part of it yet, right? Shame.) I agree that Miss Frank is the best group, but I don’t like everyone in the group. The one girl (whose name I can’t remember) is stronger than the other two.)

I think the two other girls — Stacey and Lucy — have pretty voices but they are thin; reedy; just no richness there. Olly is over-rated and Danyl is trying to over think and be “original” when all he needs to do is sing, like Jamie. He thinks he’s smarter than he is.

Can’t speak to the other two groups. Groups are just not my thing. However, those young boys seem like brats.

As for Ethan, if he decides to come back to the U.S., he could tryout for Idol. However, the competition is apparently stiffer so he actually might not be able to get beyond Hollywood here either.

  18. So I had to watch the twins to see what the deal is – OMG. Obnoxious little creeps like that should not be showcased on a national TV show, unless it has something to do with a nanny and locking them up in their bedrooms.

  19. I like Jamie the most, Rachel is really good and I like the other girls voices but they ´re like deer in the headlights, I hope they gain confidence in the live shows. Btw the girl in Miss Frank was rapping in italian, not spanish :)

  20. So the kid from Chicago didn’t make it?

Haven’t you heard? He’s President of the United States.

  21. I think Louie only chose the dire twins to wind Simon up as he despises them. Makes for good television. There were two Scottish brothers on a few years back who weren’t that bad but Simon couldn’t stand them either and of course it made for good tv. These two are just awful! But then there wasn’t much to choose from with the groups! I laughed when Simon said last week if he got groups those two weren’t even getting on the plane.

Blonde boy is bad too, but cute. The rest are ok. I could have done with more girls and over 21s and no groups and less boys!

  22. So the kid from Chicago didn’t make it?

Haven’t you heard? He’s President of the United States.

  where the heck is that rolling smiley when you need it?!

  23. jamie is pure sex – wears his heart on his sleeve, a born performer, fexy.

lucie is pure magic – voice of an angel, obviously a trained singer/vocalist.

rachel can be amazing – fantastic lower register, soulful, emotive, distinctive.

    the rest – ho hum.

  24. oh , i am so upset… That #$@#$ Danni or whatever her name is…. Danyl comes on tonight and does a great performance… and she has to say what she said.. how outrageous and just so damn rude. How could she? so unfair and so unnecessary… that was the cruelest comment I think I have ever heard on any of these shows, X factor and Idol.. Good for you Simon for taking up for Danyl. “none of that, i will not have that”. good for you Simon. I so hope Danyl wins this show and Danni can stick it up her #Q# Danyl is entertaining and exciting.. and a great performer and a great singer. he has his own style… That was just so cruel… I so dont like her…
