X Factor judges, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and LA Reid were joined by X Factor UK judge, Louis Walsh (pinch hitting for an ailing Simon) to talk to reporters during auditions in Kansas City over the weekend.
Britney says, so far, they found talent with “potential… serious potential,” but no one who quite had the ‘X Factor.
“I feel like we’ve had… some bizarre performances overall… Pretty, pretty bad,” Britney said. At one point, all four judges walked out of the audition when a hopeful not only sang terribly, but refused to face the judges while he performed.
Demi, who admits she only got her break 5 years ago, sympathizes with the hopefuls. She knows what it’s like to be told no. Criticizing contestants took some getting used to. “When I got in the seat and had to give negative criticism to somebody … it sucks. But they’re asking for your advice, and by stepping on that stage, they also know that you could not like their performance. They’re taking a chance, and I’m going to take a chance by telling them something that I believe.”
Sources are telling People magazine that Britney has been a tougher judge than expected, but I’m guessing the story was planted by Britney’s people attempting to counter reports that her judging style is rather toothless.
