Chris Rene’s “Young Homie” will be released as a single in January according to Hits Daily Double. plus, rumor has it Melanie Amaro and Josh Krajcik will be singed to Syco, while LA Reid guides his protegees, Marcus Canty and Astro.
X-TREME RUSH: L.A. Reid and Epic aren’t wasting any time taking advantage of the momentum generated by X Factor finalist Chris Rene’s “Young Homie,” the original he performed on Wednesday’s final night of competition, which has registered more than 10 million hits on YouTube. The label will rush the song to market in January. Winner Melanie Amaro will probably be placed on Syco/Columbia, according to Sony insiders, who speculate that Josh Krajcik will probably wind up on Syco as well. Reid is also rumored to be making records with Astro and Marcus Canty, both of whom he’d mentored on the show.
Simon told reporters after the X Factor finale last Thursday that while winner Melanie Amaro is the priority, he’d like to keep his top contenders in the family, “You’re not going to let Astro go, you’re not going let Chris [Rene] go, Josh [Krajcik] go. I mean that’s madness.”
Simon also revealed to reporters that Melanie has three labels within Sony that are interested in distributing her album, and that a decision will be made fairly soon.
