X Factor 1 – Top 11 – Recap Roundup!

What are the pundits from around the net saying about last night’s X Factor Top 11 performance show? Read on to find out. And read my recap (with photos and videos!) HERE.

‘X Factor’: How Astro Got Eminem’s Permission to Alter His Song, Plus 9 More Burning Questions Answered – What’s the story behind Chris Rene’s lyric change from “Gangsta’s Paradise” to “Pastime Paradise?” Ever the self-marketer, Rene promises all will be revealed in his forthcoming book, but he attempted to explain after the show: The Hollywood Reporter

‘The X Factor’: Flirty Astro, those ‘Glee’ kids, and everything else you didn’t see on TV – Sizing Up Stacy After Stacy Francis’ performance-heavy rendition of “Queen of the Night,” the judges were mixed. When we cut to commercial, L.A. Reid was booed for criticizing her performance, and Paula fake-slapped Simon for his remarks. L.A., bewildered, turned to the crowd and asked, “You really liked that? You really liked what she was doing?” Ouch, Stacy — L.A. is not a fan. He then said that we should only be cheering for his contestants, which sort of lightened the mood. – EW

‘The X Factor’ recap: Songs from Movies L.A. Reid Has Never Seen – Let’s get started with your mom’s sassy PTA friend Stacy Francis, who almost immediately inspired Nicole Scherzinger’s “I’m Lovin’ It” Stinkface (sponsored by Pepsi) with her diva-on-steroids rendition of Whitney Houston’s “Queen of the Night” from The Bodyguard. She could have gone for the jugular with “I Will Always Love You,” complained L.A. Reid. But Stacy just wanted to step it up and dance, and executed a wild arm-gesture/holleration “dance move” during L.A.’s critique to prove it. (Agggh, we believe you, stop doing that!) – EW

‘X Factor’ Redux: Chris Rene, Rachel Crow Find Themselves (Video) – The final 11 performers hit the stage with songs from movie soundtracks on Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s The X Factor. What seemed very appropriate for a movie themed night was that many of the artists tried to show their true character. It’s as if they’ve had enough weeks of being told what kind of artist they were and decided it was time they tell us. – Hollywood Reporter

Sandler visits ‘X Factor,’ singers go to the movies for inspiration – The final 11 all had to take songs off of movie soundtracks, again taking a page from the “American Idol” handbook. But perhaps inspired by their visit to the “Jack and Jill” premiere, and their subsequent banter with Adam Sandler, few went with a conventional choice. Sandler may have looked like he was auditioning for the role of the autopilot in an “Airplane!” remake, but the contestants showed a lot more life in singing songs from the forgotten files of American cinema. ‘X Factor’ Top 11 Recap: Was Movies Night Recommended Viewing? – This week on “The X Factor,” the theme was Movies Night, featuring iconic, Oscar-wining themes from such films as You Me & Dupree and Runaway Bride. Um, okay. Really, the real theme was Songs That Were Ever Featured In Any Movie Ever Even If Only For Six Seconds In The Background. Any song was fair game, really. I was a little bummed that the top 11 weren’t assigned true cinematic classics, but I guess since I got to hear both “Flashdance (What A Feeling)” and “Footloose” on the top 17 show, I couldn’t complain much…especially since some of the top 11’s performances were pure theater. Here’s how everyone did… – Reality Rocks

The X Factor – There are times when I legitimately think that The X Factor is a fun and refreshing update of the formula American Idol pioneered, and then there are times where I really wonder why we need both shows in our crowded entertainment universe. The latter thought usually comes up when The X Factor drops all pretenses of even trying to be a different show than its predecessor. Case in point: Movie Night. On Idol it’s often such an all-around disappointment that one wonders why the producers wouldn’t either tweak the guidelines or get rid of it wholesale. There’s only so many times a performer can come out with some Chris Brown track that was supposedly featured in their cousin’s basketball team season highlights reel on YouTube before the whole theme starts to seem pointless. And then there’s the obligatory Hollywood movie premiere, which doubles as the contestants’ first big media event and their first chance to show their future handlers how good they are at spewing BS on the red carpet. – AV Club

X Factor: Smells like teen spirit – It’s movie night! Which means we have sit through clips of Adam Sandler’s cross-dressing movie. HORRIBLE. And I have to say again, Steve Jones is so much more charming than Ryan Seacrest. AMIRIGHT? Let’s get to it. Who’s got the popcorn? – Chron.com

‘The X Factor’ recap: The top 11 tackle movie songs – The true contenders are starting to emerge on “The X Factor,” as it continues its gradual, glitzy march toward a winner. Sure, all 11 acts still competing for the $5 million prize (and the Pepsi commercial –- don’t forget the role in the Pepsi commercial -– which host Steve Jones made me guffaw by calling “extraordinary stuff”) are talented. But some, we learned pretty clearly on Wednesday night’s show, where the contestants tackled songs somehow connected to movies, appear to be more talented than others. – LA Times
