Ahead of The Voice season 20 premiere on Monday, coach Nick Jonas did double duty on Saturday Night Live (Feb 27) as host and performer.
The youngest Jonas Brother performed his latest single, “Spaceman,” the title track from his upcoming album.
Later in the show he sang another cut from the album, “This is Heaven.” Spaceman, Nick’s fourth studio album, is due out on March 12.
Usually, the show’s host introduces the musical act. But Nick couldn’t do both, right? Cast members Kenan Thompson and Chris Redd introduced “Spaceman” while Nick’s brother Kevin Jonas did the honors on “This is Heaven.”
After the SNL cold open, Nick’s monologue highlighted his start in show business. As a kid, he performed in musical theater on Broadway. (He also did a run as the lead in How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying in 2012). He and the cast members sang a toast to Broadway, which closed almost a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The song turned into a humorous lament on the year-long lockdown.
Also, brother Kevin first shows up during the monologue, where he asks Nick if the band is still together. Nick assures him that it is. Kevin says, “Because…I just bought a house!” Then, he ends his bit with a Hanson Brothers joke.
Nick starred in various skits, posted up on the SNL Youtube page.
