America’s Got Talent auditions at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium were cut short when coronavirus concerns shut down movie and TV production across the country.
Now, when season 15 of AGT returns in May, judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara, along with host Terry Crews, will accept remote submissions from performers at home. That should be quite the trick, considering how outsized many AGT acts are. Perhaps some of the large-scale acts have huge backyards!
In a new sneak peek, posted at Entertainment Weekly, viewers catch a glimpse of the judges on lockdown. Heidi, returning after a season off, has some pretty new nails, while a slimmed down Simon sports colorful pajamas. There is no big red button while sitting at home, so each judge creates their own system to give acts the thumbs down. Sofia makes her debut as the new kid on the block
“We’re all in new territory,” says Simon. “We’ve never done this before. We’re at home doing this, so I love trying things for the first time.”
NBC is still taking submissions at AGTAuditions.com. Some online acts could make it to the judge-cut round.
The new season of America’s Got Talent premieres May 26 on NBC. Watch the sneak peek below, along with a few new TV promos. The tagline “Welcome to Your New Family” is a play on Sophia’s old job, in the cast of ABC’s Modern Family.
