‘Voice’ Champ Craig Wayne Boyd To Open For Rascal Flatts During Vegas Residency (BONUS: Opry Video)!

Singer/songwriter/Season 7 Voice champ Craig Wayne Boyd had been teasing a big announcement coming soon, and it came today via The Voice‘s official twitter account:

Pop/country band Rascal Flatts announced in November 2014 that they would become the 1st country act to headline a residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. They will play 9 shows between February 25 and March 14 in a 4k capacity venue, and promise via press release a show that is more intimate and “about the music” than their typical arena show.

Rascal Flatts are currently signed to Big Machine Records, a sister label to the Dot Records imprint to which Craig Wayne Boyd is signed within the Big Machine Label Group family. Later this summer, they will hit the road for a summer tour where American Idol Season 10 champ and rising Interscope/Mercury Nashville country star Scotty McCreery will be their primary opener.

In other Craig Wayne Boyd news, he made his Grand Ole Opry debut on January 3, 2015. Check out his cover of Johnny Cash’s “I Walk The Line” at his debut:

Also check out behind the scenes rehearsal footage of Craig Wayne Boyd playing his Voice single, “My Baby’s Got A Smile On Her Face” (co written by Stephanie Jones and Mark Marchetti) with the Opry players:

Speaking of “My Baby’s Got A Smile On Her Face,” it debuted at #1 on Billboard’s hybrid (and generally ignored by the country industry) Hot Country Songs chart for the chart dated 1/3/2015 (the chart was released on 12/24/2014), thanks to 99k in 1st week sales. It fell off the chart the week after since there was minimal airplay and 6k in 2nd week sales, but the song has been sent to radio as of this morning. So stay tuned to see whether Dot Records gives it an adds date and a big push or saves the effort for something he records under their aegis.
