The week, the Voice 7 Live Finals began. Even with only 4 more weeks of competition remaining, there are still surprises coming for fans, including a wildcard twist, more superstar advisers and original songs for the finalists.

Last night, host Carson Daly revealed a brand new wild card twist!

“Anybody eliminated from this point on will get another chance to get back in this competition.” Carson told viewers. “After we find out your final three a little bit later in the season, We’re going to bring back everyone eliminated from the Top 12 that will perform one last time.”

“You will vote,” said Carson, “and the artist with the most votes will become our 4th wildcard finalist.”  There are no details yet on exactly how performances from nine eliminated contestants will be scheduled into the format. Could there be a week with an extra episode?  Hm.

On Monday, Carson announced that “later in the season” specifically “when we get to the finals,” the contestants will be performing original songs.

“Our coaches are teaming up with some of our biggest songwriters and producers in the music business to create those songs,” said Carson.

Coach Pharrell Williams, a hit tunesmith himself, expressed his excitement over the prospect of  “producing” original songs for his team members. “When we came here, it was like, such a tease to meet all these incredible voices and not be able to go into the studio and work with them,” he said.

I’m assuming the finals will feature an original song from each of the 4 contestants vying for the crown, with the winner releasing his/hers as their winners single? Hopefully, we’ll get some behind-the-scenes footage of the songwriters working with the team. Maybe the singers who are also songwriters will be allowed to collaborate.  That would be cool.

And finally, in the big news department: Next week, the coaches are bringing in more superstar advisors to help guide the contestants. Pharrell talked about working with Motown great, Miss Diana Ross. He’s never collaborated with the legendary diva before, and he can’t wait.

Colbie Caillat, Patrick Stump (who is also set to judge The Sing-Off for NBC in December) and Meghan Trainor are also set to advise next week. Hm. OK. I’m guessing Colbie will work with Gwen, Patrick with Adam and Meghan with Blake. BUT I COULD BE TOTALLY WRONG.

What do you think?
