Tyra Banks Reportedly Quitting America’s Got Talent Hosting Gig

Tyra Banks America's Got Talent Host Announcement

According to the rumor mill, Tyra Banks will be leaving her America’s Got Talent hosting job to concentrate on acting. From Page 6:

The top model-turned-media maven has previously hinted she could leave the NBC talent show, revealing in late November on Access, “I think I had a really nice run with ‘AGT.’ I had a lot a lot of fun” and that she was focusing on her Freeform movie sequel, Life Size-2: A Christmas Eve.

A source close to Banks told Page Six that after the film’s success this month, Banks has had a raft of offers and will focus on producing television. Said a pal, “She loved her time at ‘AGT.’”

Life Size-2 went way beyond expectations… it was Freeform’s biggest premiere of the year…” a source told Page 6 “executives were over the moon with the cult classic sequel.”

Tyra took over hosting the Simon Cowell creation America’s Got Talent in 2017 after Nick Cannon left the series after a falling-out with NBC.  Currently, he’s hosting the new FOX competition, The Masked Singer, set to premiere on Jan 2.

If the rumor it’s true, it’s not surprising, as Tyra is not one to stay in one spot for too long.  She’s always looking for new opportunities. For instance, she co-created and hosted America’s Next Top Model from 2003-20015 and then again beginning in 2017. She also hosted her own daytime talk show from 2005 to 2010 and has guest starred in numerous television shows including Glee, Blackish and New Celebrity Apprentice.

Tyra has been teasing a big 2019 project, reports Page 6. She’s has said she wants to re-make Coyote Ugly after she starred in the 2000 original with Piper Perabo.

As far as who could take Tyra’s place when America’s Got Talent returns this summer? Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Terry Crews is hosting the NBC mid-season show America’s Got Talent: The Champions. If that goes well, who knows…
