Lauren Gottlieb (S3) – Lyrical Hip Hop? Jazz?
Courtney Galiano (S4) – Jazz?
Allison Holker (S2) – Contemporary

I love Courtney!

So You Think You Can Dance executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe, announced the first of the 10 member all-star team for SYTYCD Season 7.

Contestants will be paired with alums who will mentor them in their style of dance, and then perform with them in competition. The pairs will change each week.

@dizzyfeet tweeted: I am thrilled that representing the various dance genres of Popping, Locking, Krump etc in the All-Stars Dance-Pool from Season 4 is TWITCH

Twitch, a very popular Season 4 contestant, is a no-brainer.

Also, the realityblurred blog reports that the judges will have more power this season, picking which dancer goes home from a fan-voted bottom 3 all the way to the finale. Hm. Not sure I like that at all.  I guess Nigel is sick of losing his favorites  *coughkaylacough*

Mary Murphy will be choreographing this year, as she rotates through the judges panel. Ditto Mia Michaels. Read more HERE.

  1. AWESOME!! Twitch was the first one that came to mind when I read the new rules here yesterday. I’m so excited to see him on SYTYCD again. :D

  2. Yuck, just read the change about the judges making the final decision. Why vote, America?

  3. You’re right Mj, Twitch as an hip hop specialist is a no brainer.

    *coughkaylacough*

Kayla was voted to the top 4 by the public so it wouldn’t really apply to her. It’s more in the case of a Jeanette type elimination.
IA tough that it’s wrong to let the judges choose who remains in the competition until the finale, that sucks.

  4. Meh. So overrated. I can think of five SYTYCD hip hop specialists off the top of my head who I’d go with before Twitch.

  5. He’s going to be representing the popping and locking and krumping category, not hip-hop. Hip-hop will have more representation, I’m sure. I think Twitch is great.

I wonder how the other categories are going to shake out. Will there be 2 contemporaries or 4 maybe. Will they consider jazz a different genre? And how will the ballroom dancers shake out?

  6. Contemporary is going to be the hard one because there are so many former contestants to choose from. I can’t imagine Nigel not using his golden girl Kayla despite the fact I’d rather see just about every other contemporary girl first.

  7. Ugh… I’m starting to lose track of all the “changes”. Let’s just get on with it already.

  8. The judges held too much power. People votes only really count for the top vote getters dancers and in the final. Why bother to vote then?

And we only get 10 dancers? Too few.

I am afraid, with the judges long comments, adding the alumnus screen time, the dancers will have less and less camera time . This show is to find a new American favourite dancer and not fav judges or fav choreographers or fav SYTYCD alumnus.

  9. I like Twitch, but I would rather have an actual SYTYCD winner be an “All Star” choice. Both Joshua and Russell are experts in the same genres as Twitch, and they are winners, so why not start with one of them?

I have no interest in seeing Nigel further pimping his favorites. There are reasons why people like Kayla and Jakob didn’t win. Yes, they’re great dancers, but they are somewhat lacking in the personality department.

I will not bother voting if Nigel can pick his favorite to stay in. What does that mean – all the way to the finale? If someone in the finale is at the bottom then Nigel can change the winner? UGH – get over yourself, Nigel.

  10. Allison and Lauren? It seems that Nigel is choosing his past favorites.
Would not be surprised to see Jeanette appear on the list (would prefer Lacey or Chelsie but I don’t think it’ll happen).

Don’t particularly understand the Courtney love, she’s among the weakiest dancer that got to the top 4.

  11. Twitch fan! Could be a lot of the winners have gigs that conflict with the show schedule and more non-winners don’t. Who knows – but, can’t hurt to try this new system out for a season & tweek it afterwards.

  12. Well, let’s see, I said I hope Nigel didn’t pick any of his favorites that I thought were way overpimped during their seasons like Twitch or Lauren or Brandon. Annnd there’s Lauren joining Twitch. So far Allison is the only alum I’m even halfway interested in seeing again although I preferred Natalie during their season. This list is not my cuppa. Should be interesting when they get to the contemporary males. No Mark, Travis, Danny, or Jakob and/or the inclusion of Brandon will make me very pouty.

I have no interest in seeing Nigel further pimping his favorites. There are reasons why people like Kayla and Jakob didn’t win.

I’m not seeing the correlation between those two. Jakob had more personality in his little finger than Kayla ever showed, and I say that even though I liked Kayla.

  13. Lauren is really the only contestant I have actively disliked. She’s def. A good dancer, but I hate her so!

Not surprised about Alison, she was wonderful and Nigel has talked about how much he likes her. I am surprised about Courtney, although I DO like her. I was really hoping for Katee though, so maybe there will be room.

  14. Ok, now this show I am looking forward too, LOVE Courtney, excited to see her back and Twitch, yes! I think this will be a good move on their part. I dont remember Lauren or Allison? Have to look them up

  15. I strongly disliked both Twitch and Lauren. Argh! I liked Courtney; although I didn’t think she was Top 4 material her season. Allison however is an excellent choice.

As far as judges choosing who’s eliminated from the bottom 3… it’s not any different than what they do for the Top 20 so I’m not sure what the fuss is about. I’ve seen it done the opposite way on some international versions (judges select the B3 and then let the voters have at it) and it turns more into a popularity contest (save the cute boy kind of thing) versus keeping the best dancers. So I’m alright with it…. for now. ;)
