Tuesday Daily Number’s Thread – 05/24/16

Today’s thread is brought to you by the numbers 1, 5 and 9.

Drake reclaims the top of the Hot 100 this week with “One Dance”. The song also tops the On-Demand songs (130K downloads, 121M AI, 32.8M streams (-15%, +18%, -5%)). “Panda” from Desiigner holds at the number 2 spot (94K, 69M AI, 40.1M streams (+2%, +8%, +4%) while “Can’t Stop that Feeling” from Justin Timberlake drops from 1st to third (still topping the digital chart – 204K, 109M AI, 15.4M streams (-46%, +32%m -1%))

Lukas Graham’s “7 Years” holds at 4th (while topping the Radio Songs chart for a 4th week), the Chainsmokers’ “Don’t Let Me Down” climbs to 6th, Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” drops to 7th, Rihanna’s “Work” featuring Drake and “Needed Me” remain at 8th and 10th respectively.

Fifth Harmony returns to 5th with “Work From Home” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. They appeared on the BB awards on the weekend, so will they be lifted to new heights next week? Zayn, also from the X-Factor remains at 9th with his debut single “Pillowtalk”. He is scheduled to be on the Voice finale tonight.

Speaking of former members of One Direction, Harry Styles is being offered a choice of labels. HDD reports that UMG may currently be in the lead to sign him, but Simon would really like him to stay with Sony and is offering incentives.

Voice Song Run-Down (in the top 100):
1. Adam Wakefield “Lonesome Broken and Blue”
3. Hannah Huston “Every Break You Take”
4. Alisan Porter “Somewhere”
5. Alisan Porter “Down That Road”
6. Laith Al-Saadi “Morning Light”
7. Hannah Huston “I Call the Shots”
9. Adam Wakefield “When I Call Your Name”
15. Laith Al-Saadi “White Room
21. Alisan Porter & Christine Aguilera “You’ve Got a Friend”
22. Laith Al-Saadi & Adam Levine “Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End”
30. Adam Wakefield “I’m Sorry”
43. Adam Wakefield & Blake Shelton “The Conversation”
47. Alisan Porter “Desperado”
57. Alisan Porter “Blue Bayou”
64. Adam Wakefield “Tennessee Whiskey”
65. Laith Al-Saadi “One and Only”
71. Hannah Houston “When a Man Loves a Woman”
81. Laith Al-Saadi “The Thrill is Gone”
82. Hannah Huston & Pharrell Williams “Brand New”

On the one hand, Adam Wakefield tops the download chart. On the other hand, Alisan Porter has two songs in the top 5. If I had a third hand, I would probably point out that the combined sales of Adam’s two songs in the top 10 are likely higher than the two songs Alisan has in the top 10.

What does it mean? Hard to tell when one purchase does not necessarily equal one voter. It could be that Alisan’s fans are buying multiple songs from her, while Adam’s fans are just picking up one. Or it could mean Alisan’s fans are divided on the one song they wanted to purchase (i.e. most just buying one and there was no clear favourite). Buying multiple songs for Alisan (if that is what happened) could indicate a more passionate fan base and one more likely to vote – or maybe they prefer buying songs to voting.

Will voters stick with Team Blake or support Team Christina so that somebody else wins for once?
