This Week’s Billboard Update

Note:   I’ll be posting my version of the the  current Idol Billboard charts every Thursday.   Click  on the “Current Charts” tab at the top of the page to see this week’s chart.  Click  the “Historical Charts” tab to view previous week’s charts.

Highlights from this week’s  Billboard charts (01/13/07)

  • The soundtrack to “Dreamgirls” has shot up to #3 this week on the Billboard 200.   The film, starring Jennifer Hudson as Effie White opened in wide release Christmas Day.
  • Clay Aiken’s “A Thousand Different Ways” falls off the Billboard 200 this week. A single, “A Thousand Days” will be released to radio on January 15.
  • DAUGHTRY dropped only 3 positions this week–from #8 to #11.   His single “It’s Not Over” is in the Top 40 across several genres–pop,  adult pop,  and rock.
  • Taylor Hicks’ 3rd week on the  Billboard 200  sees a drop  from #15 to #36.   His label just announced that “Just to Feel that Way” will be the first single off the album.   According to Gray Charles, the single will be released at the end of this month or possibly February, to coincide with the start of his tour.   A successful single/tour could improve his sales numbers.   However, until the new promotion begins, I expect that his chart position will  continue to drop.
  • Kellie Pickler’s single “Red High Heels” is slowly climbing up the charts–from #82 to #69 on the Billboard Hot 100, #96 to #77 on the Pop 100 and from #19 to #18 on the Hot Country Singles and Tracks.   “Red High Heels” is singled out for “Airpower” on the Country chart this week.
