Davison – Little Rock AR –  To Love Somebody by Bee Gees – He’s super excited to be on the show! He’s a worship leader at his church, and also works as a personal stylist. He describes his music as a mixture of genres. He likes Adam, but his mom is rooting for Blake. He’s got an old school soul sound.  His ad libs are really sweet. Adam and Blake hit their buttons right away.  Kelly was just about to go for it, but she missed her moment. There’s talk about the Michael Bolton cover of the song as if it were…important. Ok then.  Alicia calls Davison’s  voice “outrageous” with a storyteller quality. Blake loves his vintage sound. Blake continues to make fun of Adam’s shirt. I guess that’s gonna be a thing til the Blinds are over. Adam compares Davison to Lauren Hill and insists he knows what to do with him! Blake promises him he’ll be the centerpiece of his team. Davison chooses Team Adam His mom is disappointed, but Davison says he KNOWS Adam understands him. –  Download at iTunes

Jaclyn Lovey – 16 – Placerville CA – Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley – She tells a story about sitting in a Voice chair at a convention and never thinking she’d be on the show. Her small northern California town held fundraisers to help her with travel expenses for the show. She considers herself an old soul. Her version of the Elvis classic is a little…lackadaisical?  There have been so many terrific covers of this song, it’s hard to get into this version. Still, Alicia and Blake hit their buttons. Her voice is so tentative. She could be doing loads more as far as phrasing and dynamics are concerned. Maybe the coach who gets her can help.  “I was not singing like that when I was 16,” says Kelly. Sure girlfriend. I’m buying that. Alicia loves her simple and pure sound. Blake confesses that her singing had him picturing himself  “riding a unicorn holding a carebear.” Adam snaps, “One man’s dream is another man’s nightmare.” Yeah. That might have been a bit much. But it was funny. Alicia insists that she knows EXACTLY how to keep her pure, honest sound. Oh. I bet Alicia has this. And she does. Jaclyn picks Team Alicia –  Download at iTunes

Sophia Dion – 17 – Park City Utah – What a Man by Salt N’ Pepa – She doesn’t get an intro package. Bad sign! Her voice isn’t very strong and she’s obviously super nervous. I am not surprised the coaches are sitting on their hands. She tells the panel that she’s a songwriter as well as a singer. Kelly was looking for a “little extra.” Blake had issues with her enunciation. Yeah, I agree. She was sloppy. – No Turns

Next a montage of No Turns featuring Blake and Kelly delivering constructive criticism to the hopefuls. Nerves, pitch and song choice do the singers in. Brittany Spencer – “Road Less Travelled” by Lauren Alaina, Karianne Jean “Blue Ain’t Your Color” by Keith Urban,  and Wildee Fusaro performed “Legends.”

Molly Stevens – 34 – Raleigh NC – Heavenly Day by Patty Griffin –  – She grew up in Macon Georgia. Her grandfather was a performer who was featured in a TV special every Christmas.  She came out as gay to her southern baptist parents. It wasn’t easy at first, but they love and accept her now. Mom loves Molly’s fiance Ashlee as if she were her own daughter. Molly would call herself a country singer, but in the past few years her style has verged on Americana. She picks a Patty Griffin song to prove the point. Blake and Kelly hit their buttons fast, and the race is on. Molly’s raspy, throaty voice is full of character and feeling. She’s a unique and passionate storyteller. I hope she picks Kelly! Blake says his only lane is country, while Kelly sells her ability to traverse many musical genres. Adam is on Team Kelly! And so is Alicia. Poor Blake. Kelly’s pitch is pretty dang convincing. And Molly chooses Team KellyDownload at iTunes

Blake whines about not luring anyone on to his team yet today. Waah waah. Everybody’s ganging up on me, he pouts.

Dylan Hartigan – 21 – Wyckoff NJ – Danny’s Song by Loggins and Messina – He was a child actor, but didn’t sing until puberty. At that point, he joined a boyband and after that project failed, he went home and did regular stuff like go to college. He built a studio in his house with his parents help. His goal is to succeed as a folk rock musician. He learned a lot from his parents, listening to tons of vinyl records. He’s got a great sound. Nice tone, unusual phrasing. He’s unique. If he can write songs, he’s set. He’s doing some nice things with this classic song. It’s done folk style, but also has a contemporary flair. Nobody turns, except Kelly. He deserved more turns, to be honest. Adam didn’t turn because “the nostalgia causes me problems with this button.” Hm. He’s had some old school types on his team in the past. Kelly thinks Dylan’s cute! Team Kelly turns for Dylan  –  Download at iTunes

Pryor Baird – 35 – Old Orchard CA – I Don’t Need No Doctor by Ray Charles – We previewed this audition HERE.   He toured for years before packing up his car and moving to Nashville. The day job he’s worked since moving to Music City has interfered with his music career. He played more music when he lived in California. He’s hoping The Voice will set him free.  It took Kelly a minute to push her button, but Pryor got ALL FOUR COACHES to turn. Hm. Pryor’s raspy, growly vocals are strong, but to my ear he sounds generically country rock?  I’m not feeling a special vibe off the guy. Kelly loves his innate soulfulness, but also his rock sounds. Adam tries to connect to him as one guitar player to another. Blake compares Pryor’s sound to Dwight Yoakam’s guitar player, as if dropping names will impress him.  He loves Pryor’s “weathered” sound. The fighting over the singer goes on so long, he takes a seat on the edge of the stage. Oh. Blake’s gotta get one tonight, and of course he does. The show–ALWAYS telegraphing what’s going to happen next. Pryor chooses Team Blake. Because he and Blake are “kindred spirits.”  –  Download at iTunes
