The fans did a pretty great job choosing songs for the contestants. Better than themselves–better than the coaches! The only dud in the bunch was Sharane Calister’s “Hero.” For singing show contestants, staying away from Whitney Mariah (either really) is generally the smart move. A contemporary song, or an out of the box choice for Sharane could have been a better choice. Oh well. Maybe if she has to sing for her life…
Hm. I’m not feeling Pryor Baird. He barely changes the arrangements of the songs he sings. And his sandpapery vocals aren’t always pleasant. He’s a better performer than he is a singer.
Britton Buchanan on the other hand is a pretty creative guy, but I’m catching total Hunter Plake/Noah Mac vibes off him. Despite his current buzz, I would not be surprised if he was knocked off in the bloodbath. Just because history tends to repeat itself.
I’m a little surprised to see Kaleb Lee charting so low. Sure, he seemed a little comatose during what’s supposed to be an energetic song. But he’s a country dude! And country dudes always start out the competition on third base. It’ll be back to ballads for Kaleb next week. On the other hand Rayshun Lamarr is looking good on the iTunes chart. Maybe he’ll escape the bottom two this week.
My favorite performances were from Britton Buchanan, Spensha Baker, and Brynn Cartelli. Honorable mention to Jackie Verna for delivering her best performance of the competition yet.
