The Voice Season 13 Song Spoilers – Top 8 Semi-Finals – What Will the Contestants Sing?

Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson continue to coach their teams. FOUR singers will be eliminated tomorrow (Tues Dec 11) after the 4th, 5th and 6th place finalists sing for the insta-vote.

Host Carson Daly sends thoughts and prayers to Californians dealing with the recent deadly wildfires. Also, a shout out to those brave first responders.

Adam Cunningham – Team Adam – I’m Already There by Lonestar  – Coach Adam says that after escaping the Bottom 3, Adam has earned the right to choose his own song. So, that’s how it works? Singer Adam says if you aren’t punched in the feels by this song, there’s something wrong with you. Get me to the doctor! Coach Adam predicts the song will make the iTunes Top 10. Hm. Probably smart to sing a ballad at this point of the competition. The performance is perfectly fine. But Adam has never delivered a performance that elevated him beyond a competent bar performer. And the show stuck him at the top of the performance order. Good luck with that Top 10, fella. Blake Shelton is SO GLAD Adam is choosing his own songs now. “You sang the hell out of it dude,” he says. Coach Adam calls his team member “an amazing surprise…this dude deserves to be in the finale,”  – Download at iTunes

Chloe Kohanski & Noah Mac – Wicked Game by Chris Isaak –  Dang. Why is this performance in the death spot? Boo. Chloe and Noah met for the first time at McDonalds. They’re friends! Chloe’s vocals pop on the verses, while Noah reaches into the depths of his lower range. But he soars on the chorus. I gotta say, I’m a fan of both, but I’m not feeling much chemistry between these two.  The performance has is moments, but it feels under-rehearsed. Here’s the hashtag. OK. Here’s the “holiday” part the singers talked about on Instagram. The duet partners sing “festive holiday mashups” in Target spots. Chloe and Noah sing a mashup of “White Christmas” and “The Christmas Song.” It all finally makes sense (mashups were mentioned in the official press release)

Davon Fleming – Team Jennifer –  Gravity by John Mayer  – Apparently, America has been asking for a male song from Davon. He will deliver this week. Jennifer suggests he stop singing a perfect song. He’s gotta feel it. Oh. Coaching sessions over Skype. JHud has been in the UK on the weekends to tape The Voice across the pond. Davon delivers a slow burn performance, with gospel notes. His high notes sound strained, but other than that, this is actually a very good performance. He held back initially, before delivering the big payoff. I don’t think it’s enough to get him through to the final, but it’s an admirable last performance if he’s eliminated.  Adam felt that his song choice was beautiful and his ability to scale back the song made it great. “That was all you,” says Jennifer. She couldn’t even move to take off her shoe! – Download at iTunes

Red Marlow – Team Blake –  Go Rest High on that Mountain  by Vince Gill – Blake calls the song a “tall order.” Both agree it’s the right song at the right time. Red thinks back to losing his best friend 20 years ago. He’s sure he’s in heaven watching. Well, he’s no Vince Gill. His version of this song can bring tears to my eyes.  Red’s version is nicely delivered–plaintive, simple. It’s like being in church on Sunday. He performed tonight for the first time without his guitar. Miley says he represents “truth.” Blake is sure every country music fan who loves that song will vote for him. –  Download at iTunes

Brooke Simpson & Davon Fleming – Earned It (50 Shades of Grey) by The Weeknd – These two hang out big time. Davon calls Brooke “a bundle of joy.” Now talk about chemistry. This duo has got it. Davon is having a very good night. The song allows both to show off some subtly. Will they eventually go off the rails. Yeah, they kinda do. But it’s working for me. They’re having a blast on stage, and that helps. VOTE on Twitter #BrookeDavonDuet –  Download at iTunes

Davon and Keisha sing Home for the Holidays” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” That Target pup is so cute.

Keisha Renee – Team Blake – What Hurts the Most by Rascall Flatts  – Back to country this week, says Blake. He thinks Rascall Flatts lends itself to the soulful treatment. The band calls to wish her good luck. Keisha is a real pro. She knows how to deliver a vocal. It’s a nice R&B version of the song. The adlibs are perfectly placed. But this ain’t country. Nevertheless, her silky smooth voice packs an emotional punch. Miley calls her an original. Blake is freaking out. “I don’t know what else you could have done to get into that final four,” he says. –  Download at iTunes

Red Marlow & Adam Cunningham – Can’t You See by the Marshall Tucker Band – “We’re both country as a stick!” exclaims Red. This cover should please country rock fans. Red and Adam perform a respectful cover of the 70’s classic. Adam is a little shouty, but overall, it’s a decent rendition. VOTE on TWITTER #AdamRedDuet – Download at iTunes

Chloe Kohanski – Team Blake – I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner  – She wants a combo Landslide/Total Eclipse of the Heart moment. She used to sing this on guitar with a friend. It appears that she chose the song. She really wants to show vulnerability this week. She tears up describing her The Voice journey. The song is performed with an acoustic backdrop. She’s got a Heart circa 198o’s look going, complete with frizzy hair. Her voice is breaking up a little tonight. At this point, they’ve all got to be exhausted.  Welp. This is going straight to the Top 5 at least. She’s delivering a very emotional and honest version of the song–stripped bare. That was really brave. Kudos. Welcome to the Final Four Chloe. Blake says it’s her biggest performance on the show so far. He calls her voice “iconic.” – Download at iTunes

These Target holiday mashups are cute. Red and Adam sing a mashup that includes “It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas” and “Deck the Halls.”

Addison Agen & Keisha Renee – Strong Enough by Sheryl Crow – This is actually a good match up vocally. They both have such beautiful, thick, soulful tones. And Keisha is actually performing like a country singer here! Very nice. VOTE Twitter #AddisonKeishaDuet – Download at iTunes

Keisha and Addison’s Target spot features “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and “Wonderful Christmastime”! Nice.

Noah Mac – Team Jennifer – River by Bishop Briggs  – Noah wants to bring POWER back to his performance this week. He calls the song a “modern day eye of the tiger.” Jennifer gives him some vocal tips, but for the most part, she’s hands off.  His mom is an artist. She’s been very supportive. Noah confesses that he’s stressing himself out. Last week in particular was very emotional. Very powerful performance from Noah. Still, hope it’s not too offbeat for The Voice audience. There’s not much melody or variation in this song. Singing a popular oldie would have been the thing to do at this crucial time. But–got to hand it to Noah for staying true to who he is as an artist. Miley thinks he brings something youthful and modern to the show. “People really know who you are.” Jennifer admires the way he commands the stage. – Download at iTunes

Addison Agen – Team Adam –  Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell – Adam chose the song. She wants her to reach deep and “swing for the fences.” Addison muses that Joni wrote the song at a young age. On stage, she’s surrounded by strings. This is gorgeous. Addison’s phrasing transforms the song into something brand new. TERRIFIC rendition. OK. This is hands down, my favorite performance of the night. She brings innocence, honesty, emotion to the table here. Adam calls Addison an artist. He wants to set her up for the best possible career. “I think you should win this competition.” But he doesn’t even care if she wins! She’s tearing up.  – Download at iTunes

Brooke Simpson – Team Miley –  Faithfully by Journey – Miley thinks Brooke entered front runner status last week with “Amazing Grace.” Brooke will sing the song for her husband. What is that in the background? Cique du Soleil? I don’t get the ballet dancers. In any case. Brooke delivers the big big notes on a classic song. Will it be enough to propel her to the final four? “We almost burnt the place down,” says Miley, “This show is about The Voice.” Miley is pimping hard for her only remaining team member.  –Download at iTunes
