The Voice Season 13 Song Spoilers Playoffs 3 – What Will the Contestants Sing?

We begin live blogging at 9 pm ET. Join us!

Brooke Simpson – It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World by James Brown – Brooke, a Native American from North Carolina, is being “pushed hard” by Miley. Show your personality, allow viewers to get invested, Miley tells her. As far as the performance is concerned. I’m not crazy about this song choice. It’s been covered ad nauseum on singing shows. However, Brooke has an incredible instrument. Her range is crazy impressive. And she pours herself into the song–so hard she swings her microphone like a weapon. She’s having a moment–a total win. Host Carson Daly acts a little freaked out on the approach. Ha. Adam compares her to great female vocalists like JHud and Christina. Blake calls her “flawless.” She made JHud proud to be a woman.  – Download from iTunes

Backstage after her elimination from the Knockouts, Karli Webster learns from Miley that she’s her Comeback Artist. Karli was a four chair turn back in the Blinds, wowing the coaches with a performance of  “Blue Bayou.”

Karli Webster – Coat of Many Colors by Dolly Parton –  Miley is sure her Godmother Dolly Parton, will be so proud after watching Karli’s cover. It’s a perfect song for Karli, says Miley–perfect for her range and vibrato. Indeed, Karli is channelling Dolly. Maybe too much? The rendition is so on the nose it’s almost like an impersonation. Young Dolly come to life. Karli has an interesting voice. Wish Miley had chosen a song that showed off Karli’s individual artistry. Adam calls it her best to date. He’d keep her. Miley thinks the vintage sound is perfect for her.  – Download from iTunes

Adam Pearce – Love Hurts by Nazareth – When Miley stole Adam she more or less said he’d been handled badly. She wants to give him BIG production values. She a song that would allow Adam to show his vulnerability while keeping the classic rock vibe. Adam loves the choice. Wait. Miley promised us FIRE and a big production. Where it? Adam is a competent rock singer. But. Eh. He hasn’t progressed beyond the bar, really. He’s tribute band material. The performance finishes–still no fire. I feel robbed. Miley stole Adam from coach Adam, and he laments being deprived of finding  great rock songs for him to sing. JHud compliments the song choice, “You didn’t even have to budge…you knew your voice would do everything it needed to do.” Miley is still kinda dissing coach Adam, more or less calling out his song choices. She complements the singer on taking all her notes, allowing him to show a side we had yet to see.   –  Download from iTunes

Ashland Craft – When I Think About Cheatin’ by Gretchen Wilson – Ashland feels the song really shows off her range. She’s insecure about the highest note, though. Miley encourages her, noting that she didn’t see Ashland’s stage fright, initially. Her rendition is lovely and effortless, even when she takes it up a notch in the second chorus. Miley needn’t worry, Ashland is hitting the notes just fine. She keeps her sweet rasp, even when she belts in the far reaches of her upper register. Miley done good on the song choice. “That note was perfect!” exclaims Miley. Adam calls it “world class.” Blake grouses, “Why the hell are you not on my team.” Miley believes in Ashland, “I’m proud of you,” she says. “You’re beautiful!” exclaims Jennifer  –  Download from iTunes

Moriah Formica – World Without You by Beth Hart – Earlier in the competition, Miley called sixteen year old Moriah a young Beth Hart, but with a better range. Now she’ll sing one of her songs.  “Don’t be afraid to allow people to see inside a tough exterior,” instructs Miley. Moriah is torn about playing an instrument. She’s afraid people will think she’s hiding behind her guitar.  “People won’t think that if that’s not what you’re doing,” Miley state.  Bingo. I bet Moriah never heard this song, or anything by Beth Hart before Miley brought her up. It’s a good song choice–contemporary, but with a bit of retro going on. When Moriah hits the big note in the chorus, it’s thrilling.   Adam wants to be her best friend. Jennifer feels “the hook got…out of control” and she “never got a grip on it.” But calls her “a star” nevertheless.  Blake feels there aren’t many big voiced female rock stars in the industry, and for that reason, she needs to be in the lives.  Miley seems to be second guessing the song choice. “I think I like you to be a little bit tougher.” Hm. I’m not feeling the criticisms.  –  Download from iTunes

The Top 12 filmed a music video with the stars of Pitch Perfect 3. We’ll see it next week.

Janice Freeman – Fall for You by Leela James – Janice has been through a lot. She lost a husband to cancer, and she battled cancer and lupus herself. “You don’t hit a bad note,” says Miley. Janice is happy with the song Miley chose, and it shows. TERRIFIC performance. Her rendition is both strong and tender. Exquisitely, phrased, every ad lib on point–it’s the singer’s best performance to date x1000. Everything about Janice in this moment is PERFECT.  I think she just nabbed herself a spot in the Top 12. The performance of the night. “Holy Moley!” says Adam. “It moved us all,” says Jennifer. “Your voice is a reflection of who you are,” says Miley. Janice is in tears. “I want more girls to be like you,” Miley adds.  – Download from iTunes
