Keisha Renae – I Can’t Stop Loving You by Don Gibson – 30 – Inglewood  CA – Folks expect Keisha to pursue R&B, but she’s drawn to the country genre. She was a back ground singer for Nicki Minaj, Adam Lambert and others. Keisha also competed on American Idol season 11 under a different name. She had a baby—it was a high risk pregnancy. Afterward she lost a ton of weight. Adam, Jennifer and Blake turn, and eventually Miley. Her take on the song is more soulful than it is country, actually. She’s got a beautiful clear tone, though. Adam realizes that he has nothing in common with Keisha, but he makes a case anyway. He encourages her to stay true to herself. Keisha reveals that she wants to be a country/pop/soul artist. Jennifer wants to help her find her lane. Coaches still throwing stuff at each other tonight. Miley reveals that she WANTS country artists on her team. Blake declares “country music is my life.” And Keisha picks Team Blake Shelton – She confesses that he’s who she wanted. She feels like a newbie in country music and feels Blake can help her navigate the genre. – Download from iTunes

Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus drops by. Meanwhile Miley is wearing a ridiculous cowboy outfit. Obviously part of the narrative this season will be Miley trying to win with a country artist.

Dylan Gerard – Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur – Dylan gets no video package. His presentation is super low key. Will he get a turn?  Decent voice, but not much energy until the final verse where he finally brings some heat. Adam and Jennifer turn around. Adam appreciates his subtlety. Not subtle is Jennifer going full blown vocal coach on Dylan. For instance, he may be singing the song in the wrong key, Jennifer thinks. He tries it again a half step higher. I dunno. I can’t tell the difference. Adam merely says “I got you.” He’s kinda screwed. But maybe not! Dylan is a big Maroon 5 fan. Dylan picks Team Adam Levine –  Download from iTunes

Maharasyi – Tell Me Something Good by Chaka Khan & Rufus – Her family is from Indonesia, where her aunt is a huge pop star. She also had an Indonesian recording contract.  Her father deserted the family while they lived in Los Angeles. Her mother had to work so much that she was sent back to the old country. Right now, she’s a wedding singer. Maybe she’ll pick Miley Cyrus, the singer muses, which means of course, that’s not who she’ll choose. Maharasyi is a young singer, but performs like an artist straight out of the 70’s. Her vocal is very gritty and soulful. She’s got swag. Jennifer is the first to turn. Miley is next.  I guess the gals are going to battle it out now. Adam calls Chaka his “crush.” Jennifer loved the song choice. But, she wondered why she shied away from the last big note? She tries it. It’s not very good, actually. But Jennifer is ecstatic. Miley noticed her nerves. She wants to build the singer’s confidence. Marlo Wells – 61 –  Love Me Now by John Legend – His father worked as a musician with Motown legends. Marlo didn’t pursue music as a career until recently. He’s decided to live his dream, with the support of his wife.. He wants to work with Jennifer Hudson.  Smart to sing something contemporary. Not that it helps him though. Nobody turns. His voice was nice, but generic. If he had gotten a turn, he would have been the oldest contestant ever on The Voice. Jennifer  is sorry she didn’t turn. She suggests that he come back – No Turns

Red Marlow – Swingin’ by John Anderson – I’m country as cornbread, declares Red. He’s a living stereotype. He’s been grinding away at the music business, but it’s been tough. He eventually started a wood shop to make ends meet for his family. This performance is corny as hell. He’s a good performer, but I’d like him more if he weren’t a giant walking cliche. Blake and Miley both hit their buttons near the end. Miley makes more sense than you think. She comes from a family of country cliches. Adam didn’t press because he felt he didn’t have a chance. He and Red hug it out. Miley calls herself a “strong fighter” and very country.  Turns out Red has met Blake before—back when he had a mullet. Unsurprisingly, Red picks Team Blake SheltonDownload from iTunes

Ashland Craft – You Are My Sunshine (In the Style of Chris Stapleton) – 21 – Piedmont SC – Currently she works at a honky tonk. But she wants more. Her dad, a mechanic, built her a music studio.  Blake freaks out immediately and hits his button. He loves old school female country singers. Miley hits her button. Adam turns too, but I have a feeling he’s not going to figure much in this battle. Ashland has a raspy, old soul voice.  I like it. Miley notes that she also covered the song. “I’m back more rooted and grounded,” Miley says of the changes she’s undergone done her last Voice stint. Miley calls their partnership “punk rock Dolly Parton.” Blake, again, reminds everyone that he lives and breathes country music.  He compares the singer to Gretchen Wilson. Ashland picks Team Miley Cyrus. She was initially “dead set” on Blake. But Miley changed her mind.- Download from iTunes
