The Voice AU: Jason Derulo Replaces Keith Urban on Panel

Jason Derulo

Keith Urban returned to The Voice Australia’s judges panel for two seasons beginning in 2021. But now he’s leaving again. R&B star Jason Derulo will take his place on the panel next to Jessica Mauboy, Rita Ora and Guy Sebastian.

Seven’s Chief Content Officer, Entertainment Programming, Angus Ross, said: “The Voice is one of the biggest entertainment brands globally and in Australia, and we are very excited to welcome one of the biggest stars in the world into the Seven family and to The Voice Australia.

“Jason is a sensational addition to our line-up of superstar coaches Jess, Rita and Guy and we can’t wait to see who they turn their iconic red chairs for this season.”

It’s not Jason’s first time sitting on a talent show panel. He served as a So You Think You Can Dance judge in 2015 and 2016. He also guest judges on The Voice of Germany in 2017.

As far as Keith is concerned, he seems pretty busy with his Las Vegas Residency, which features 3 separate legs in 2023 in the spring, summer and fall. He dropped his latest single, “Brown Eyed Baby” earlier this year. He’s set to perform on the CMT Music Awards in April and CMA Fest in June.

Could Keith Urban be leaving The Voice AU to join The Voice USA?

Keith Urban and Blake Shelton The Voice

But how about this? Keith left The Voice Australia after season 1 to take a job on the American Idol judges panel. Could it be that Keith will take the place of departing Blake Shelton as the country coach on the U.S. version of the show? He’s a veteran The Voice coach at this point, and he did serve four seasons on the American Idol panel. Plus Blake enlisted him as a Battle Round advisor a few seasons ago. There are so many country artists who might be willing to take that seat. But if The Voice is going for tried and true, Keith would be the perfect choice.

The fall cycle usually begins taping in the summer. NBC will announce the new panel before the end of May.
