The Voice AU 2022 Crowns Winner Lachie Grill from Team Rita Ora

The Voice AU 2022 Lachie Gill Rita Ora

Over the weekend, The Voice Australia crowned a winner and it is former football player and P.E. teacher Lachie Gill from Team Rita Ora. The 24 year old won $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Australia.

“Oh my god! From the start, I just never, ever would have expected this. I’m just blown away. Thank you so much. Wow. Thank you,” the singer said after hearing the result.

Coach Rita Ora said: “You did all of this. Australia, thank you, thank you, I love you. I feel like this is just the beginning for you. Congratulations. I’m so happy for you I can’t breathe!”

The prerecorded finale included 4 alternate endings!

The Voice AU 2022 Final 4

Weirdly, the finale had been prerecorded, but in order to facilitate viewer votes determining the winner, alternate endings had been recorded!

That means each of the four finalists had to act out their winning (and losing) moment, and the ending that aired was then determined by the public votes. So while viewers watched Lachie win on Sunday night, his was one of four reactions filmed. WEIRD.

“Lachie is in a league of his own; he’s the ultimate storyteller and has the ability to capture the audience and have them go along with him. He sings like it’s the last time, every time,” said Rita.

Lachie performed his winners single “Wasted Time” as well as a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time after Time” and a duet with Rita of “Always Remember Us This Way” by Lady Gaga.

Fellow Grand Finalists included Thando Sikwila (Team Keith Urban), Jordan Tavita (Team Guy Sebastian), and Faith Sosene (Team Jess Mauboy).

During a mentoring session, former American Idol judge Keith Urban became emotional during a reunion between Thando and her toddler son. “Well Kenda, you reduced me to tears,” Keith said after the emotional reunion.

Keith and Thando duetted on a cover of Adele’s “Oh My God.”

Jordan Tavita from Team Guy covered former American Idol contestant Benson Boone’s “Ghost Town.”

The Voice Australia has made all their videos available to American audiences. It’s gotten harder and harder to watch international competition show performances on Youtube without a VPN. So thank you producers and Channel 7. Peruse the playlist below.
