The Voice 9 – Live Playoffs Part 1 – Take the POLLS

WHOA. As of 12 am EST. JORDAN SMITH zoomed to #5 on the iTunes charts! There’s a huge gap until Jeffrey Austin at #38 and the rest fall in line thereafter. Braiden Sunshine 5th on the chart? Really? Don’t underestimate the power of pinchable cheeks, I suppose.

I wondered if Jeffery Austin could best fellow blue eyed soul singer, Viktor Kiraly, on Team Gwen, and so far, it looks like the answer is yes. Viktor should have fought for a bigger song.  Amy Vachal is doing well on the charts, as she always does. Her records are better than her live performances. Of the two wild cards, Ellie Lawrence has a chance to advance, Chance Pena not so much.  Jordan, Amy and Shelby are likely going to be Team Adam’s finalists.

Jeffery and Ellie were Team Gwen’s strongest performances tonight.  Taking Braiden’s decent iTunes numbers into consideration, and Gwen’s little crush on him, I could absolutely see her choosing to advance him to the finals. I wish she’d choose Viktor, but she really doesn’t need both Jeffrey and Viktor on her team–their styles overlap too much. Two of Team Gwen’s singers, Korin Bukowski and Regina Love haven’t entered the Top 200 yet. Ouch.  However, Gwen is dominating the top 100, so there’s that.

Korin, in particular, was a real disappointment tonight. When she’s on, she’s on, but the singer lacks confidence. I’ll be a little sad to see her go. The same for Viktor and Chance. I have a soft spot for both.

By the way–if fans were hoping for major flirtation between new couple, Blake and Gwen, they played more than coy. Except that one time when Blake said about 5 times in a row, that he was happy Gwen was crushing Adam. Not that it was true. But still.

You watched the members of Team Adam and Team Gwen take the stage tonight. Now, take the polls! My personal favorites were Jeffery Austin, Shelby Brown and Ellie Lawrence, with honorable mentions for Viktor Kiraly and Chance Pena.  Jordan Smith is a fan favorite. But for me, he is all big, bland notes and lacks emotional nuance.
I am SO happy the battles/knockouts are over. There’s far too little singing in the middle rounds. Tonight’s show was really a breath of fresh air, and I’m looking forward to Team Blake and Team Pharrell tomorrow night.
