What a night on The Voice! The final performance show offered up some great moments. Mine were Koryn Hawthorne’s fierce “It’s a Man’s Man’s World,” Sawyer Frederick’s rendition of Ray Lamontagne’s “Please” and Meghan Linsey’s original song, “Change My Mind.” Honorable mention goes out to Joshua Davis for his Springsteen-esque original song, “The Workingman’s Hymn.”
Speaking of which, I love the idea of singer/songwriter contestants being given the opportunity to choose their OWN songs as a first single. In Sawyer and Koryn’s case they were handed songs from people they greatly admire (Ray LaMontagne and Pharrell Williams, respectively). It ensures that the song will suit the singer and reflect the kind of music they’ll make in the real world.
The finals featured two teenagers and a pair of singers who have been around the block several times. Both of the youngsters–Koryn and Sawyer are old souls who haven’t lost their innocence. Their performances are wise, but not well worn. On the other hand, there’s something to be said for singers who bring every hard knock into their artistry. It’s not skillful play acting, but the real thing.
Fun fact: Only Sawyer Fredericks hadn’t been stolen at one point along his The Voice journey.
Aside: The coach duets were unintentionally hilarious. Pharrell’s in particular.
Let’s look at some iTunes numbers before we vote in the polls, shall we?

DANG SAWYER. Why bother with tomorrow’s show? Hand him the trophy and throw the confetti now. Could he knock Taylor Swift out of the #1 spot? If he does, I’ll be expecting him to walk on water any minute. Even that terrible duet with Pharrell is charting fairly well. Meghan got the iTunes bonus, but can Joshua hit the Top 10 by tomorrow? The rankings indicate already how things will probably go tomorrow night. This was an entertaining season of The Voice. Good thing, because as far as the competition is concerned there’s been very little suspense.
