Ahead of The Voice season 24 premiere on Monday comes what has become a seasonal traditions, the coaches performance. Watch Niall Horan, Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani and John Legend deliver an easy breezy take on the the Eagles classic 70’s country rock hit, “Take It Easy.”
Fun fact: singer-songwriter Jackson Browne recorded a great version of “Take it Easy” which he happened to co-write. Look it up!

In the clip, the coaches perform on stage with The Voice band in front of an enthusiastic audience. Each superstar has an opportunity to show off in a solo. The four also harmonize with Reba displaying her incredible range.

Niall returns to The Voice for a second season after winning the spring cycle with teen singer Gina Miles. John Legend is back on the panel after taking a season off. And Gwen Stefani returns, her first season without husband Blake Shelton, who has retired his big red chair. Taking Blake’s country chair (she even sits in his spot on the far right) is new coach Reba McEntire.
The Voice season 24 premieres on Monday September 25 and Tuesday September 26 at 8 pm ET/PT

Niall calls Gwen “mean” and an “evil stepmother”
- A behind the scenes report from Entertainment Weekly reveals that like her husband, Niall has a familial relationship with Gwen. Gwen calls Niall “naughty.” A producer notes that Niall “definitely gives it to Gwen.
- And again, Niall calls Gwen “mean” in a People magazine interview. “It’s honestly truly shocking,” says Niall. Gwen jokes, “All of the girls in the whole world are going to be so mad at me! We’re playing. It’s a joke. He likes it.”
- In an interview with ExtraTV, Niall calls Gwen his “evil stepmother.” The coaches say they had to current winner Niall down a few pegs. “I already had a big head,” Niall quips.
- Niall tells Entertainment Tonight that he misses his “TV dad” Blake Shelton. “I got to learn off him and have a bit of a laugh while doing it,” he states. Gwen teases, “”They’re like little-big buddies.” In the meantime, Blake hand-delivers to the studio fresh produce that he grows on his Oklahoma ranch.
- John Legend tells Today that he really enjoys coaching up and coming artists. Gwen agrees, adding that there’s so much talent on the show she sometimes wonders how she ever made it in the business. Reba feels she has no special advantage over her fellow coaches, calling winning The Voice a “crapshoot.” She’s also in awe of Niall’s passionate fanbase who show up in the audience.
