The Voice 24 Playoffs Begin! Now it’s time to vote for your favorites
The Voice season 24 Playoffs kicked off on Tuesday (Nov 21) with performances from the six members of Team Niall Horan. As the show teased, there was a twist. Each coach will bring back one eliminated Knockout contestant each–from any team. The result is a Top 24, which each team containing six members. (Read our Recap)
Niall chose to bring back 13 year old singer Julia Roome. She has potential, but is not quite ready for prime time. Both The Voice and American Idol get excited over young talent with “potential” whether they are ready or not. The Voice coaches will pluck these singers for their teams, declaring that they can help them grow. Maybe they can? But it’s never enough to win the show. The teen singers who HAVE won the show (Carter Rubin, Brynn Cartelli), come in ready to compete.
Was Alexa Wildish robbed?
At least Niall didn’t pick Julia to move on to the Top 12. Yes, she came back, and went right back home again, as she should have. More controversially, Niall sent home the exquisitely talented Alexa Wildish. This, after the show made such a big deal over her. The coaches LOVED this singer. And she got the pimp spot on Tuesday. She’s been consistently fantastic all season! But while I wish she could have gone farther, I’m not mad about it. Niall’s team was pretty stacked. He could make a really good case for advancing Huntley and Mara Justine. Both are extremely talented vocalists and charismatic performers. Both also have a chance to win the show.
An argument could be made for sending home Georgian (the country) singer Nini Iris. Technically, Alexa is a more accomplished singer. But Nini’s dark pop is more commercially viable and unpredictable. She could potentially bring more surprises to the competition, than a tried and true singer like Alexa. Either choice would have been a tough loss.
