With Camila coaching on the show for the first time, much of the discussion is about how she’s faring on the panel (Awesome, of course, what else would her bfellow coaches say? They’re promoting season 22!). Also, as anyone who has watched previews already knows, the newbie coach has been set up as Blake’s new foil.
Camila also shares about what she has in common with former coaches Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson, both American Idol alums. Namely, that she also started her career off of a competition reality show, the X Factor USA in 2012. She auditioned as a solo singer, but eventually ended up as part of Fifth Harmony.
Also Gwen chats a little about what it’s like to come back to The Voice as Blake Shelton’s wife. She’s a little nervous! But hopes to beat him in the end.
Camila Cabello Says She ‘Didn’t Prepare’ Herself for Friendly Banter with Blake Shelton on ‘The Voice’
In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, the Familia artist, 25, said that she “didn’t prepare” herself for what to expect with her fellow coach, Blake Shelton — who is known on the reality competition series for his friendly banter with the other stars. “I didn’t prepare myself at all,” Cabello tells PEOPLE. “I didn’t really know what to expect, but I feel like that’s better for my brain because I already have been prone to overthink in my life.” “You’ll see a lot of that literally on the show because there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes cameras where we’re hanging out and talking,” she says. “They’re always giving me advice, and then regretting it because I really run with it.” – Read more at People
Camila Cabello Talks Joining ‘The Voice,’ Her TV ‘Parents’ Blake & Gwen, and Channeling Beyonce’s ‘Energy’ in Brazil
You’re about to make your debut as the newest coach on The Voice. How did the opportunity come up, and why was it a yes for you? The Voice reached out, and it’s so fulfilling and full-circle for me to be coaching people because I started on a singing competition show. And I just love that it’s a very equal-opportunity show, you know? You don’t have to have money, you don’t have to have any connections in the music industry. If you have a lot of talent, things are possible for you. And I think that’s really cool. I kind of know what it’s like to be in that setting, which is different than, I think, just a normal — not normal, because none of it is normal — but different than, for example, what my career has been like for the past eight, nine years. The behind-the-scenes of these shows are kind of like a boot camp. They’re very extreme. – Read more at Billboard

But while Blake may be focused on his high school antics, John Legend is kicking himself for telling Camila that she would make a good Voice coach when she was Team Legend’s season 21 celeb mentor. “I told her that, and who knew I was charting my demise?” he said with a laugh. “She’s such a great coach and she’s going to be quite a formidable foe for us all season.” John admitted that “everybody’s got really good team members” in season 22, making for some “tough” competition. However, he and Gwen Stefani — returning to the show for the first time since she and Blake tied the knot — agreed that they’re working hard to make sure “The Cowboy” doesn’t get to add another trophy to his mantle. “Blake’s losing this season,” Gwen teased, with John agreeing, “He’s going to lose.” – Read more at ETonline
