The Voice 19 semifinal aired tonight (Dec 7) as the Top 9 sang for YOUR votes for a chance to compete in next week’s finale. Here is how the semifinal elimination will work: The top vote getter from each team–Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Gwen Stefani–will advance to the final. The remaining 5 singers will compete in the instant save for the 5th spot.

Eh. I would prefer for the best singers to go through. But I have a feeling coaches don’t like sitting through the finale without a contender. So the rules change. The problem is when a team is strong, a talented singer will be eliminated, while a weaker singer from another team goes through. For instance, John Holiday is probably the Team Legend front runner. If Tamara Jade has any chance to advance, she’ll probably have to blow everyone away in the Instant Save.
I did the math, and season 19 is only 8 weeks long. Week-wise, the shortest The Voice season ever. But not episode-wise. I took a peak at season 1–it aired only once a week, but for 12 weeks. The past few seasons have ditched Tuesday shows. But it has FELT short. I feel like we barely got to know these singers.
Tonight featured strong performances from Carter Rubin, Desz, Tamara Jade, Ian Flanigan, and Cami Clune. Honorable mention goes to John Holiday, a singer whose musicality I appreciate, even if I don’t love his voice.
Time for the polls. Like last week, there is a poll for every team, and an overall poll for the wildcard.
It’s time to VOTE!
