The Voice 18 Premiere Recap: Blind Auditions 3 Live Blog (VIDEO)

I haven’t been super-excited over The Voice talent this season, but finally a singer arrives who has thoroughly caught my attention. Granted there are two more Blind Audition episodes to go, but I do believe the uniquely gifted Thunderstorm Artis has the potential to dominate the competition as Maelyn Jarmon (season 16), Alisan Porter (season 10), Jordan Smith (Season 9) Sawyer Fredericks (Season 8) and Cassadee Pope (Season 3) did before him. At the VERY least, Thunderstorm is a shoe-in for the finale.

Finally, Kelly Clarkson confirmed last night what some fans suspected–the teams have been slashed from 12 members t0 10. Before the premiere I read several interviews with producers who hinted at format changes, even going into explicit detail explaining them. But did any producers mention what really is the biggest format change of all? There have been 12 member teams on The Voice since season 2. Producers just left it up to Kelly to reveal, in an aside in episode 3, as if it were a minor tidbit. I guess to say it out loud would admit to The Voice downsizing even more than they already have. (ie. cutting Tuesday episodes, ditching studio recordings).

Speaking of Tuesday episodes! The next The Voice season 18 Tuesday episode is March 31 according to Futon Critic listings.
