The Voice 10 Playoffs Part 2 weren’t nearly as strong as Part 1. Maybe it’s the strength of Team Xtina that resulted in a front loaded first night, plus Team Pharrell, outside of Hannah Huston, being kind of a disaster.
Shalyah Fearing has the highest scoring song on iTunes, which doesn’t surprise me. Still, so much over-the-top praise for a performance that basically amounted to an uncontrolled scream-fest. I’m glad Laith Al-Saadi isn’t the victim of some weird backlash against Muslim sounding names, although tonight’s performance was not one of his best. It goes to prove the power of the classics. Daniel Passino is really charting higher than Hannah Huston? Sigh. I also expected Caroline Burns to chart a little higher, but she was montaged at the knockouts and really had to come out with a super-memorable performance.
My favorite performances of the night were from Owen Danoff, Hannah Huston and Caroline Burns. To me they not only sang well, but showed me who they were as artists, in terms of interpreting the song in a unique way. Other than those three singers? A night full of meh.
Tomorrow, watch for a massive Playoff round prediction poll!
