It was the second night of The Battle Rounds on The Voice season 10. What did you think of Diddy as an adviser? He’s been around the reality show block with Making the Band and it showed. He was both entertaining and helpful. He pulled no punches, but was always constructive. Good stuff. NBC should consider nabbing him if they can pry any of the current coaches fingers’ off of their swivelling red chairs…

The Voice 10 Recap – Battle Rounds Part 2 – Live Blog and Video

The results of tonight’s battles made sense. Mostly. Except for Christina choosing Kata Hay–who basically sang like a cat in heat–over Chelsea Gann. I get that Chelsea wasn’t exactly personality plus, and if Kata could have at LEAST stayed in tune, I would have been all for keeping her, because she is full of lulz. But come on, when the central conceit of the competition is THE VOICE matters most, advancing performers who can’t stay in tune or in time is not a good look.

Natalie Yacovazzi elimination made some people unhappy. She is a few years beyond the point where singers begin their pop careers, but she was “total package” material. Nate Butler has vocal skills, but he definitely needs to develop his performance skills. I didn’t really have a dog in that hunt, though. Both are solid singers. Neither will/would have made it to lives.

The episode opened and closed with two terrific battles. Shalyah Fearing & Tamar Davis from Team Christina had big shoes to fill with “Lady Marmalade,” but they both rose to the challenge–the seasoned Tamar in particular. I’d give the nod to the last battle between Team Pharrell’s Hannah Huston & Maya Smith. They were evenly matched and delivered compelling and unique performances of Sia’s “Elastic Heart.”
