The Masked Singer season 7 continues, featuring panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger, and Nick Cannon as host. Fifteen contestants are divided up into 3 groups: The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly.
This week, three remaining Group B contestants take the stage to perform for studio and panel votes. The masks include: Ringmaster (Good), Miss Teddy (Cuddly), and Armadillo (Good). TWO WILL BE UNMASKED. The remaining contestant moves on to the FINALE.
Leslie Jordan from Call Me Kat is tonight’s guest judge.
Clues: My career is a masterpiece. Big Audition. Supreme Court. Her first audition was her only audition. But it hasn’t been easy.
Performance: Mercy by Duffy – Miss Teddy is obviously an older Diva type singer. Her growl is unmistakable, and gives her away. Miss Teddy finishes with a big signature note. Miss Teddy is hiding nothing this week. Ken thinks it’s Yolanda Adams. Leslie guesses Cindy Birdsong or Mavis Staples. Jenny guesses Gloria Gaynor.
Prediction: Ha ha. I’m betting the entire panel knows by now who Miss Teddy really is. That voice (and the clues) unmistakably belongs to Jennifer Holliday who starred in the original Dreamgirls on Broadway and brought “And I Am Telling You” to public consciousness. That’s what the “Supremes” clue point to. Also, after her initial burst of fame in the 80’s her star dimmed somewhat.
Clues: Handcuffs behind bars. He used to be “bad” in jail. He received advice that changed his life. Waving a Texas flag.
Performance: Amazing Grace – He dedicated the song to his mom. It’s a good song choice because it’s easy to sing, and pulls at the emotional heart strings. It’s a decent performance, in a plaintive way. Nicole is “crying.” Armadillo is crying too. “It was my mom’s favorite song.” Jenny guesses Dog the Bounty Hunter. Jordan guesses Tommy Lee Jones. Ken guesses Al Pacino. What a dumb guess, Ken.
Prediction: Jenny is correct. Armadillo is Dog the Bounty Hunter.
Clues: First day at a prestigious school. NASA. Welcome, Nashville. “I’ve never been part of a group before and we tried our best to make it work.” She’s been doing a thing for the last 10 years.
Performance: I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton – She’s singing the Whitney Houston version, including the key change and the big note. This huge performance may propell Ringmaster to the finals past Miss Teddy. “Music is my first love,” says Ringmaster. Robin guesses Sarah Hyland. He thinks she’s an actress. Jordan guesses Noah Cyrus or Kacey Musgraves. NOPE. Nicole guesses Maren Morris. Maren and Kacey are way too famous and successful for this show.
Prediction: Ringmaster is Hayley Orrantia who has starred on the ABC sitcom The Goldbergs for the last 10 years. However, she also competed on the first season of X Factor USA as part of the country pop group, Lakoda Rayne (Paula Abdul’s Groups). She has already said TWICE that she’s met Nicole! (Nicole sat on the judges panel next to Paula and Simon Cowell that season).
The Final Showdown
All three celebrities sing “One Way Or Another” by Blondie as a group number ahead of the vote. No vocal acrobatics necessary to sing this song. It makes the performance easier for Armadillo. But Miss Teddy and Ringmaster are robbed of opportunities to sing big notes. But it doesn’t matter either way. This performance is a time waster.
The first singer getting unmasked and sent home tonight is…Armadillo. Final Guesses: Jordan guesses Gary Busey. Nicole guesses Dog the Bounty Hunter. Jenny also guesses Dog the Bounty Hunter. Robin guesses Stone Cold Steve Austin. Ken is sticking absurdly to Al Pacino. And Armadillo is Dog the Bounty Hunter! He is half-apache. He used to be a member of a motorcycle gang.
The second singer getting unmasked tonight is…Miss Teddy! Ringmaster moves on to the finale. Final guesses: Ken guesses Yolanda Adams. Jenny guesses Gloria Gaynor. Robin guesses Karen Clark of the Clark sisters. Nicole guesses Jennifer Holliday. Jordan also guesses Jennifer Holliday. And Miss Teddy is Jennifer Holliday! Jennifer did the show for her fans, who she says constantly namecheck her as a guess.
Next week, Group C, the final group of celebrities takes the stage to compete for the third spot in the finals. It’s also when Rudy Giuliani will reportedly “sing,” unmask, and cause Ken and Robin to storm off the stage. Gross that the show cast him. But then, this is FOX we’re talking about. The Murdochs are trying to take American democracy down, so it all tracks.
By process of elimination, Giuliani is probably Jack in the Box. The other masks have been promoted at one time or another and are obviously not an old man who can’t sing.
