The Amazing Race 36 Recap Week 4

The episode begins with teams paragliding to their next location. Ricky & Cesar and Amber & Vinny are beginning the leg in the first group. They are in Medellín, Colombia, and they must proceed to Comuna 13. They arrive there, and they learn they have a Detour to complete: Dance Vibe or Wall Scribe. The former requires teams to breakdance. They must be in sync with a group of breakdancers for 30 seconds. Wall Scribe requires teams to decipher picture clues on a mural to recite a phrase. Ricky & Cesar and Amber & Vinny choose Wall Scribe.

Juan & Shane are currently in third place and choose Dance Vibe. More teams find the clue box and choose their Detours. Yvonne & Melissa and Derek & Shelisa also choose Dance Vibe. Rod & Leticia also choose to breakdance.

Ricky & Cesar and Amber & Vinny work on the Wall Scribe Detour. They try deciphering the clues to recite the phrase. Ricky & Cesar first guess “The world is bigger than you think,” but that’s not correct. Amber & Vinny guess “The world is smaller than you think,” and they are correct. They are in first place and get their next clue. They must proceed to Plaza Botero.

Ricky & Cesar finally get it right shortly afterwards, and both teams rush to taxis around the same time. Vinny urges Amber to speed up, which upsets Amber. Inside the taxi, Amber breaks down in tears and says Vinny is putting too much pressure on her.

Meanwhile, Angie & Danny can’t find the clue box. They got assistance from Amber & Vinny before they left. Kishori & Karishma and Angie & Danny open their clue around the same time. Kishori & Karishma go dance, but Angie & Danny choose Wall Scribe.

Choosing detours

Michelle & Sean and Sunny & Bizzy finally choose their Detours. Michelle & Sean choose Dance Vibe while Sunny & Bizzy choose Wall Scribe.

All the teams at Dance Vibe rehearse inside the same space. Derek gets frustrated that Shelisa isn’t teaching him the moves. She’s the better dancer, but Shelisa tells Derek that she can’t learn it and teach him at the same time. Leticia is not a good dancer, and she feels like Rod chose the Detour without consulting her first.

Juan & Shane eventually attempt the breakdance. They fail their first attempt. Meanwhile, Angie & Danny complete the Wall Scribe Detour. They are now in third place. Juan & Shane pass the breakdancing task on their second attempt, putting them in fourth place.

The remaining teams struggle with the Dance Vibe Detour. It takes many attempts, but Derek & Shelisa are the next to complete the task. Meanwhile, Sunny & Bizzy struggle with the Wall Scribe Detour. They get close to the phrase, but then they come up with phrases that are not even close.

Rod & Leticia, Yvonne & Melissa, Michelle & Sean, and Kishori & Karishma keep failing their breakdancing task too. Rod & Leticia finally get it right, putting them in sixth place. Michelle & Sean are the next team to complete the Dance Vibe Detour.

Juan & Shane’s taxi driver goes a different route to get out of heavy traffic, but this may put them behind the teams that finished their Detours after them.

Amber & Vinny arrive at Plaza Botero. They learn they have a Roadblock to complete. One team member must locate and mark twelve statues on a map. They must walk around the plaza to find the statues and figure out where to mark them on the map on a board. Amber chooses to do the Roadblock.

Roadblock

Kishori & Karishma and Yvonne & Melissa complete the Detour while Ricky & Cesar arrive at the Roadblock. Ricky chooses to do the Roadblock. Sunny & Bizzy are still struggling with the Wall Scribe Detour. They are so close to deciphering the phrase, but they end up deciding to switch Detours. This will put them further behind.

Angie & Danny arrive at the Roadblock next. As they arrive, Amber gets her board checked and she’s correct. She and Vinny can proceed to the Pit Stop: Parques del Río Medellín. Ricky completes the Roadblock too. Before leaving, Amber helps Danny figure out how to orient the map to do the Roadblock task more easily.

More teams arrive at the Roadblock. Shelisa chooses to do the Roadblock. Juan & Shane and Rod & Leticia arrive at the same time. Rod and Shane agree to work together.

Team No 1 arrives at the pit stop

Ricky & Cesar arrive at the Pit Stop. Phil gives them the good news. Ricky & Cesar are Team #1! They have won $2,500 each.

After Michelle, Karishma, and Yvonne get started on the Roadblock, Danny completes it. He and Angie can proceed to the Pit Stop. Michelle is struggling with the Roadblock. She asks help from Shane and Rod, but they ignore her.

After we see Amber & Vinny arrive at the Pit Stop as Team #2, Sunny & Bizzy complete the Dance Vibe Detour. Back at the Roadblock, multiple people fail their first attempts. After we see Angie & Danny greet Phil as Team #3, Shane and Rod finally complete the Roadblock. Rod had one statue misplaced, but Shane let him know his mistake before they departed for the Pit Stop.

The final team arrives

Michelle cannot figure out the map’s orientation, preventing her from getting any of the statues labeled correctly. Juan & Shane and Rod & Leticia arrive at Parques del Río Medellín at the same time, but they can’t find Phil. Rod & Leticia eventually find him, making them Team #4. Later, after Rod & Leticia have already left the mat, Juan & Shane greet Phil as Team #5.

Yvonne and Shelisa are the next two to complete the Roadblock. Kishori is watching nervously as Karishma is struggling with the Roadblock. Michelle is still struggling too. Sunny & Bizzy eventually arrive, giving hope to the teams still there. Sunny decides to do the Roadblock.

Derek & Shelisa and Yvonne & Melissa greet Phil as Team #6 and Team #7 respectively. Sunny is able to read the map better than Michelle and Karishma. Sunny manages to complete the Roadblock before them, allowing her and Bizzy to greet Phil at the Pit Stop as Team #8.

Karishma finally completes the Roadblock on her 18th attempt. Kishori & Karishma greet Phil as Team #9.

Michelle finally gets her clue. It’s already nighttime when she and Sean greet Phil at the Pit Stop. They are in last place, and Phil gives them the bad news. Michelle & Sean have been eliminated from the race. Michelle says they are leaving wiser, stronger, and even more in love. The episode ends with them playing double Dutch with Phil.
