Taylor Hicks: Chris Daughtry Shouldn’t Be An American Idol Judge

.

When Nati asked the season 5 winner what he thinks about the rumors that Chris Daughtry, who finished fourth on the same season, was being considered for the job, Taylor offered this up:

“I’m not gonna get into who shouldn’t or who should be a judge. If anything, I think a winner should be, personally. Because what you go through to win the show is a lot different than what you go through when you’re third or fourth or fifth or tenth. If they were going to have a judge that’s from the show … I would feel like a winner would be the best suited.”

Taylor would definitely accept an offer to be on the show. “I’ve got some pretty good ideas, we’ll see what happens,” he said. And has the network reached out to him yet about an offer? Taylor’s answer was coy. “I’m just gonna be tight lipped about everything. I’m not confirming or denying it.”

I think anyone who has run the American Idol gauntlet as a contestant is qualified for the job. Chris brings his own unique perspective to the proceedings. He’s an artist who became successful despite NOT winning. So there is that.

When asked if he felt American Idol came back too soon after its big “farewell season” in 2016, Taylor said, “It probably could have used maybe a year or two, possibly more.” He added that he thinks ABC does a really good job with their reality shows.

However, if he were contemplating a run on a singing show in 2017, Taylor would choose American Idol over its NBC rival, The Voice. “After the Idol finale, everybody in America and around the world looks at each other and is like ‘Who won Idol last night?’ I don’t know if they do that with The Voice.”
