SYTYCD Fik-Shun Dances on Paula Abdul’s “Live to Dance!” (VIDEO)

Last night on So You Think You Can Dance, guest judge, Paula Abdul, hinted that she knew animator, Fik-Shun, from her 2011 CBS dance competition reality show, Live to Dance!

Remember that? I covered it for a few weeks, but it was up against, American Idol, and nobody seemed to be very interested in our coverage so I dropped it. It wasn’t renewed for a second season.  Soon after, Simon Cowell and FOX helped Paula get out of her contract with CBS so that she could join the X Factor judges panel. Well, we know how that turned out.

Anyway, Paula was the guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance this week, and was very impressed with her former protege, who performed a fierce Paso Doble with his partner, Amy.

Here is Fik-Shun, at 16, at his Live to Dance! audition. He went by his real name, DuShaunt Stegall, in those days. Paula calls DuShaunt “a bright ray of sunshine.”

And Du-Shaunt in the semi-finals. The dancer was a student at the Las Vegas Academy, a performing arts high school, which likely explains why he’s able to handle choreography in many different styles. Of course, Nigel will go on and on all season about how he’s completely untrained. Whatever.

DuShaunt went as far as the semi-finals, where the panel of judges were not very impressed with his hip-hop routine and passed on him. Paula suggested he take some classes. Today, he’s a SYTYCD favorite.
