SYTYCD 13 Finale – Winner Revealed – Live Blog and VIDEOS

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Kida Burns is America’s favorite dancer on the Season Finale Episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE airing Monday, September 12 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX. ©2016 FOX Broadcasting Co. Cr: Adam Rose

It’s the finale!

Who will win?

JT? Tate? Emma? Kida?

The top 4 dance together before being joined by the other 6 eliminated dancers, and all the All-Stars. So nice to see them all back together. The audience has colored pieces of fabric they’re waving around. It’s all very celebratory. Me likey. Choreographed by Christopher Scott and Jamal Sims.

Who gets 250K and a magazine cover? It will take two hours to find out.

Our judging panel didn’t expand for the finale. Still just Nigel, Paula, Maddie, and Jason.

They played a prank on Robert last week. They had someone other than JT behind the mirror. Mildly funny.

1) Nigel’s Pick- Kida and Fik-Shun- I Can Make Ya
It’s the routine that Kida choreographed. I feel like Kida should have his own show on the Disney Channel after this. They need some diversity in their lineup, and a show about a young hip-hop dancer might bring in some views. Just sayin’.

Retrospective Alert! We look at all the top 10 briefly and some of their moments. This segment SCREAMS filler. They get voted dumb things like “least likely to reach the cookies” and “most likely to annoy their neighbor”.

2) Sheaden and Marko- Treasure
Sheaden is back! The other hip hop boy. He was kinda screwed by the process, losing his all-star and getting Marko instead. Not that Marko isn’t great, but hip-hop isn’t his style.

JT’s audition is replayed.

3) JT’s Solo- Feeling Good
His dance teacher must be so proud of him. So young, and holding his own.

4) Maddie’s Pick- Tate and Jonathan
Tate’s Salsa that I wasn’t a huge fan of is back. I thought Jonathan did most of the work. It’s interesting that Tate’s repeat isn’t with Katherine, and it’s out of her style. Maybe there are two picks this week? Tate does look fierce. I don’t hate this routine, but I still think it had a lot to do with Jonathan.

5) Paula’s Pick- Jordan and Sasha- The Light That Never Fails
A great routine to bring back, and feature someone who wasn’t in the top 4. Jordan deserved more. Beautiful.

6) Jake and Jenna- Ain’t Your Mama
An abbreviated take on the routine.

Tate’s audition is reshown before her solo.

7) Tate’s Solo- Trophy
She picked this one? Um. OK.

8) Jason’s Pick- Emma and Gaby- Salute
Is it bad that I completely forgot this routine existed? I mean, there was the Savion Glover routine, or the one with the ramps, and Jason chose this? What?

Montage of all the hip hop dancers that auditioned, as well as some of the big hip hop moments on the show.

9) Kida, Fik-Shun, Marko, Tahani, Comfort, and Sheaden- Choreo by Luther Brown
I expect a ballroom routine later highlighting all the ballroom kids too. There are three boxes on stage for them to dance on, adding levels to the routine. I like it. The other two hip hoppers not named Kida hold their own.

Emma’s audition is replayed before her solo.

10) Emma- Expensive
Emma’s definitely got the growth arc. She wasn’t the best in the beginning, and some wondered how she got her spot. However, she worked hard and came a long way, and she deserves to be here, even if there’s another dancer I’d rather have. I can’t discount her talent.

Katherine picks her favorite routine with Tate.

11) Tate and Katherine- This Gift
The routine that I don’t think translated if Stacey hadn’t said what it was about. Honestly, if no one tells me what this routine is about, it’s pretty. But when you tack a story onto it, you’d better sell it, and it doesn’t.

Another montage of some other standout auditions, dance academy moments, and show moments.

12) The Top 10 and Maddie- Small- Choreographed by Mandy Moore
Top notch costuming and set work. Definitely pre-taped. One of my favorite routines of the season. I loved it. Every second. This should be Emmy nominated.

Kida’s audition is replayed.

13) Kida’s Solo- Boogie Bruthaz- Fingazz
I don’t remember this solo either, but it’s fun. Not his best, but fun.

14) Nigel’s Second Pick- JT and Robert- Mr Bojangles
I had a feeling we’d see this routine again, especially since we just saw the mirror routine last week. So innocent. Perfect.

And here’s our ballroom montage.

15) Jake, Daniela, Ruby, Jenna, Jonathan, Paul
I just realized that Jenna is in two places at once. She’s super talented. I wonder which one is pre-taped? Is it SYTYCD or Dancing With The Stars? or is it both? A really good routine. I wish this voting audience respected ballroom more.

The top 4 come out.

In 4th Place… Emma. She’s crying a bit, which is understandable. We look back at Emma’s best moments.

Now it’s down to Kida, JT, and Tate.

16) Tahani and Comfort- Pep Rally
They had better routines. This was OK.

Sergei- Diane and Acteon from La Esmerelda
A celebrated ballet dancer performs a ballet routine that is bound to open up discussions at home about dance belts. Brilliant ballet dancer.

17) Paula’s Second Pick- Ruby and Paul- Malevo
An Argentine Tango. Ruby is so good. She could easily be an all-star in her style.

18) Cat’s Pick- The All Stars- Feathery
It’s the jungle gym routine. We just saw this… last week? The week before? It’s still a good routine, and a good pick. Sasha is not in this.

19) Fik-Shun’s Pick- The Buzz
Of course the bumblebee routine is back. Raising awareness for bumblebees everywhere. Represent! Probably Kida’s best routine.

The night flies by so fast without judges comments.

A montage of the contemporary dancers of the season.

20) Emma, Gaby, Jordan, Sasha, JT, Robert, Tate, Katherine
Emma got thrown into the contemporary routine. No highlight for her style. A very pretty dance that plays with lines very well. Good stuff. Choreo by Travis Wall. Of course.

21) Daniela and Jonathan- Marchina
Poor Daniela. First one gone. It always sucks to be the first eliminated. This was an OK dance. Really short.

22) Ruby and Paul- Muchacho
Ruby gets another dance! A really short one, but one more! Good for her.

23) Jason’s Second Pick- Tahani and Comfort- I’m Going Down
It’s the “father left” routine with the bed, the wall, etc. This was such a good routine the first time. I’m really glad this got a reprise. Comfort is brilliant. Love this routine.

24) Gaby’s Pick- We Will Rock You
This routine has grown on me. Still not my favorite of Emma’s (WHERE IS THE RAMP ROUTINE OR SAVION GLOVER’S ROUTINE?), but its OK. Kudos to Emma for picking herself back up and dancing her heart out after elimination. I know that’s hard.

The Top 3 come out. It’s about to be a Top 2.

In Third Place… Tate

It’s either JT or Kida. Tate doesn’t cry. she takes this like a beast. We see a montage of her best moments. Katherine says her heart busted open. She gets a little trophy. I’m sure Emma had one too, I just didn’t notice.

25) Maddie’s Second Pick- Tate and Kida- Manolo
The turnip farmer routine. Kudos to Tate for coming right back on stage after her elimination. Getting work done.

26) Robert’s Pick- Stand In The Light
Robert picked their first routine together. Smart move. Remind America that JT has always been this good. I think he’s won this whole thing. We’ll find out shortly…

After the break, someone wins.

We get to see their finest moments after Nigel’s long winded inspirational speech.

The Winner of So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation is…. Kida. JT is runner up.

Will there be another season? If so, see me next summer!
