Susan Boyle: I Dreamed a Dream Track List

In case your’re interested (I am, sorta) the track list for Susan Boyle’s upcoming CD has been released to the press.

“For the second time in a month Susan has defied preconceptions, ” Susan’s rep tells People, “Everyone thought it was going to be an album of showtunes, but it’s not.”

Erm, hasn’t Simon Cowell and everyone associated with the Britain’s Got Talent runner up been yammering on, since BGT wrapped up, that Susan wouldn’t be recording show tunes? I think her first single, The Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses” was a pretty big clue.

Along with the Stones, Susan also covers songs by Madonna, The Monkees and Patti Griffin. I have no desire to hear Susan Boyle strip the emotion out of “Up To The Mountain” thankxokgbye.

Susan Boyle’s album I Dreamed a Dream come out November 24.

  1. I don’t get it. I just don’t get it. She has a mediocre voice, and she’s doing covers of songs. And not even some amazingly great, new covers, just covers.

    Why isn’t this woman’s 15 minutes up?

  2. Winners and runner ups of singing talent shows usually debut with albums full of covers. It’s nothing new or unusual.

  3. She has a mediocre voice, and she’s doing covers of songs. And not even some amazingly great, new covers, just covers.

Because if she were doing new songs, *nobody* would buy this. But these songs including some “anthemic” (tm Cookie) stuff that some people love in a nostalgia-laced kind of way. So people will buy it because they thought her voice was kind of purdy on tv and on the Internet, and the soppy soap opera that was made of her story by Simon C et al will mesh with their nostalgic love of songs like How Great Thou Art and their sentimental love of hearing these songs sung purdily and lead them to pull out their credit cards.

That’s what it’s all about, really — how many atavistic urges they can combine to get people to spend bucks. Simon knew he could tap into a bunch of sentimentality to create cd sales the instant he first saw/heard Susan.

  4. ^^ I guess the post-AI albums are all the exceptions then? Except for Melinda, are there other AI alum who’ve released predominantly cover albums?

  5. 3. ‘Cry Me a River’

I first thought this was the Justin Timberlake song. :) It honestly wouldn’t be too out of place in this bizarre selection of songs.

Hmm, this is going to be the weirdest album ever.

  6. ^^ I guess the post-AI albums are all the exceptions then? Except for Melinda, are there other AI alum who’ve released predominantly cover albums?

Well, with AI, Simon’s trying to create a *pop* star — i.e., somebody who’s young and hip and connects with that demographic, so of course they churn out new stuff in absolutely the style of the day, in hopes that the young will connect with that after it’s blasted at them enough over radio and buy buy buy plus latch onto the person for years more of buying.

But with Susan Boyle, there was obviously no question of her being a pop star. She’s old. She’s not pretty. She’s not hip. So there he goes the other route of sentimentality to sell songs mainly to adults.

There’s more than one way to make bucks in Simon’s universe, and he knows what those ways are, obviously!

  7. what a hotchpotch of a track list .

Madonna, The Stones, The Monkees, a musical theatre song, a hymn, a xmas carol .. and the song used by the UK as the theme song for our Olympic team in Athens and is being used a lot in connection with the London 2012 Olympics promotion.

Sorry but Heather Small sings “Proud” well enough herself .. we don’t need an over sentimental twee version from Subo to make it lose all credibility. .. . and I think I may just barf if I hear her sing “The End of the World” in her little girlie voice.

    arghhhhh .. enough already

… and sorry but I can’t see her pulling off a boppy, bouncy “cheer up sleepy Jean”

  8. ^^ I guess the post-AI albums are all the exceptions then? Except for Melinda, are there other AI alum who’ve released predominantly cover albums?

Yes, post-AI albums are mostly exceptions. But you can go on Wikipedia and check out track listings for various Australian Idol winners and contestants, winners and contestants of other Idol shows around the world, winners and contestants of British X Factor. Some albums are full of covers, some have a few original songs.

Sometimes albums of covers sell better than albums of original songs.
British X Factor runner up Rhydian outsold winner Leon Jackson. Rhydian released an album of covers, Leon’s album contained original songs.

  9. Please tell me that she is NOT covering Madonna’s You’ll See.

ETA: Uh-oh, I just read MJ’s blurb at the top and I guess it is. Not good.

  10. Sometimes albums of covers sell better than albums of original songs.
British X Factor runner up Rhydian outsold winner Leon Jackson. Rhydian released an album of covers, Leon’s album contained original songs

Leon’s album had about 6 covers on it (if you include the Winner’s single which in itself was also a cover of the Whitney song) .. and I don’t necessarily think that in this case Rhydian outselling him was all down to his album being covers, Leon just didn’t seem to be able to hold onto the fanbase who voted for him and the amount of votes he got wasn’t reflected in album sales.

But yeah .. a lot of X factor contestants seem to get stuck with a lot of covers

  11. Why isn’t this woman’s 15 minutes up?

Soon, folks, soon. This track list should do it.

  12. Soon, folks, soon. This track list should do it.

    It’ll probably go platinum.

  13. We all know she is going to sell several million copies of this album…and the majority of the people who buy it (I envision frumpy ladies with their day time hairnets and their fuzzy wuzzy slippers sipping their cold tea in their overstuffed rocking chair with the embroidered “arm” savers, oh my) will go ape shit over it. Based on her first song we know she can sing notes and lyrics but that she has absolutely no power or emotion in her voice. These songs will be “lovely” in a ladies tea shop kind of way, but they won’t “say” anything.

As I’ve said before, stuff like this is a real slap in the face for people who really work hard at creating something with their voice. It’ll just go to prove that mediocre is fine for most people and that words and music is all they care about…not emotion, or telling a story, or displaying real skill and creativity. Besides, who in their right mind would want to write a song for a woman who doesn’t have a clue what “real” life is about.

  14. Yeah, um, no. Sorry, SuBo, it’s been fun, sort of.

Say it ain’t so, mgk. PLEASE, record buyers, do not give in to the urge to purchase dreck.

But she isn’t *that* old, she just looks that old. :)

  15. It’ll probably go platinum.

Yup. It sure will. I actually think Susan Boyle has an above average voice. It just doesn’t do anything for me, but there is definitely a market out there for her. Her CD is going to do very well I think.

lol .. I’m getting a whiff of Lily of the Valley mixed with home perm and set lotion

  17. What a strange, strange track list. Church music and a Christmas carol mixed with pop, show tunes, and even some Babs.

  18. That is one wierd assortment of songs. Tess, I don’t think Americans will go for this. Maybe old biddies in the UK, but not here. My money is on Adam to top her on Nov. 24th.

  19. blech….but i suppose if paris hilton and heidi montag can be “recording artists” why not Susn Boyle

  20. hoosiermama – ITA with you. This stuff isn’t going to be played on the radio in the U.S., is it? So other than people who watch daytime talk shows (if she’s even on those to promote it), I don’t see how anyone here will care or want this…

  21. In the event of a Zombie Apocalypse….YIKES!!!! The Apocalypse is upon us! Run! It’s Susan Boyle!

  22. That is one wierd assortment of songs. Tess, I don’t think Americans will go for this. Maybe old biddies in the UK, but not here.

Don’t underestimate the power of those who propelled Josh Groban’s Christmas album to amazing numbers or Barbra Streisand’s latest album to the top of the charts. There’s a huge audience for this stuff.

  23. There are artists that sell albums very well without radio play such as Josh Groban. There is market out for them …even Barbra Streisand just beat out Paramore and Mariah Carey for album sales this week.

  24. I think SuBo should sing covers of Weird Al Yankovic songs. That would at least add rubbernecking value to the train wreck.

  25. Barbra Streisand is a legend in this country, and I agree a good Christmas album can sell really well this time of year. I just don’t think Susan Boyle can be compared to those two, but who knows until the album is actually released..

  26. not even one original song? how is that possible?. They couldn’t get someone to write a new song for her?. and people are buying it ? .

is that JT’s cry me a river?

  27. Don’t underestimate the power of those who propelled Josh Groban’s Christmas album to amazing numbers or Barbra Streisand’s latest album to the top of the charts.

Christmas albums sell well, and Josh Groban has a strong fanbase. Streisand is an icon, and her new album is the perfect Christma gift for parents/grandparents/Aunts/Uncles. Plus, I doubt Babs track list is such a mish mash.

I think Susan’s album will have a great first week because her fans have all pre-ordered. Once the reviews come out, very few others are going to have much interest. It all reminds me of those music acts that used to be advertised on late night TV. The Pan Flute guy and the grey-haired guy who sang a bunch of love songs.

  28. not even one original song? how is that possible?. They couldn’t get someone to write a new song for her?. and people are buying it ? .

is that JT’s cry me a river?

From what I understand “Who I was born to be” is an original … and no, it’s the Julie London “Cry Me A River” not JT’s

  29. ughhhhhhhhhhhh.in the dictionary, there should be a picture of her face next to the wot overrated…..

  30. The Apocalypse is upon us! Run! It’s Susan Boyle!

Yes, and her green arrow is pointing upwards! She has her sights on Adam at #6. Yikes.

  31. Why isn’t this woman’s 15 minutes up?

True dat – I can’t stand SuBo – ugh. All covers. That’s great. And it’ll wind up beating Adam that week. Double ugh.

  32. and no, it’s the Julie London ‘Cry Me A River’ not JT’s

I know Julie London had the first popular version, but that song will always belong to Babs. :)

  33. wow, is there a market for this?

    – I guess if Rod Stewart can spend his golden years re-covering much covered classics, then so can Susan Boyle, who is the ‘novelty of the moment’

  34. 4evrmomof4: “I guess if Rod Stewart can spend his golden years re-covering much covered classics, then so can Susan Boyle, who is the ‘novelty of the moment'”

The difference is though that people like Rod Stewart have “served their time” in the industry providing years and years of classic new music and great entertainment so I don’t begrudge them a bit of a sit back on their arses and churn out the old classics …lol

  35. Susan Boyle has a great voice. Those of you who say her voice is mediocre are missing something. That said, there is more to a performance than the raw instrument and people have different tastes. But “I Dreamed a Dream” was excellently interpreted, if not original, being somewhat constrained by the genre. I liked “Wild Horses” a lot. Her “Cry Me a River” from 10 years ago was pretty darn good. But I’m not so sure about the song choices; they’re weird and all over the place. Looks like the producers are recording what she already knows. She’s a fragile person and may not have what it takes to sustain a career as a singer with or without a lot of hand holding.

  36. And it’ll wind up beating Adam that week.

That’s funny. NOTHING will beat Adam.

  37. This is really a mess, Simon must really be hard up to make a few bucks.
It will be in the 2 dollar bin, I sure hope they dont put her face on the cover, or maybe if they did it would work for Halloween! No I didnt say that!!

  38. My prediction:

she will beat Adam outside of the US & Adam will beat her in the US

  39. One person’s mediocre is another person’s fantastic, it’s just an opinion. I don’t really have an opinion on the quality of her singing, it’s just that I really don’t see how very many Americans will even know who she is…enough to spend money on an album..I mean if she was American and had competed on America’s Got Talent it would be a little different. If the target market for this is senior citizens, how many of them have a computer or go on You-Tube to watch videos? I know, I know there are some but really, come on, lol

  40. The SuBo storyline started out so promising..I admit that I was charmed when I first saw her youtube clip on BGT. Sadly, it turned out that she seems to be just another good singer, but sorely lacking in interpretive skills, originality, and personality. If only she had one other redeeming quality besides her nice voice.

  41. Soon, folks, soon. This track list should do it.

    LOL, that be funny :)

I do not get this woman’s appeal at all. I cannot imagine spending a penny on that track list even if sung by my very favorite artist ever. So, I certainly can’t imagine buying it from some British talent show winner.

I am dubious that Susan will have any kind of significant success here in the states. But, American has proven me wrong before, so who knows.

  42. I don’t get it. I just don’t get it. She has a mediocre voice, and she’s doing covers of songs.

Fans of reality TV karaoke contests view their favorites as human juke boxes. They want to be able to push the buttons and make their favs sign their favorite songs — just like they are real artists.

Of course, reality TV karaoke winners are usually not real artists, their covers are usually mediocre — only palpable as an alternative to their ghastly “original” songs.

  43. The Today show franchise made a big big deal about Susan Boyle and was promoted for weeks on end…they even sent a host to London to report on the BGT final. Susan has been on all the US national talk shows, in People and US and all the grocery store checkout line rags magazines. Now considering that demographic there will be tons and tons of very sweet women who will rush out to buy the album and support Miss Boyle…because she is the current Cinderella of their youthful fairy tales.

I know I’m being very snarky but I just hate this whole mess. It’s so damn apparent that Simon is playing on the sympathies and good intentions of the listening audience. And so help me, if anyone gifts this CD to me for Christmas…not only will I write them out of my will, but I’ll crash my antique porsche or give it to a homeless person just to spite them.

  44. Cry Me a River is a jazz standard. About a million people have “covered” that song. No jazz fans here, huh?

  45. Tess, I’ll take your word for it since I didn’t know about all the talk shows and I try to ignore the magazines at the grocery since lately all they have on their covers is John/Kate or the no-talent Kardasians. I’m not saying I won’t be wrong and SuBo will sell tons I just don’t get it..at all

  46. And it’ll wind up beating Adam that week.

I totally believe she will and sorry to say, she will probably, inexplicably, do very well with her record in the UK and here in the US. And I will be very sad that someone so medicore will be so popular. I can just see it now.

  47. Sadly, it turned out that she seems to be just another good singer, but sorely lacking in interpretive skills, originality, and personality. If only she had one other redeeming quality besides her nice voice.

Who is watching all those reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show? That’s proof that the pretty voice is what it takes for many many listeners, I think.

  48. If the target market for this is senior citizens, how many of them have a computer or go on You-Tube to watch videos? I know, I know there are some but really, come on, lol

I think those millions of You-Tube viewers are no different than the AI viewers. Entertained while watching, but months later, not entirely compelled to buy.

Who is watching all those reruns of the Lawrence Welk Show?

There’s a channel playing reruns of the Lawrence Welk show? I had no idea. That’s pretty hilarious. And, I would most definitely be curious to know who those viewers were.

  49. Remember the book “Bridges of Madison County”? Worse book ever written, full of maudlin melodrama with no literary salvation but the story was just so tender and sweet and overdone and enthralled all the “womenfolk” and it became a national bestseller, a horrible movie, and the writer even wrote another one.

This is the phenomenon that surrounds SuBo. It isn’t about her or her voice or her talent, it is about a group of people identifying with her Cinderella story and just wanting the fairy tale to have a happy ending.

  50. Tess, you’re depressing me LOL. Seriously, if SuBo becomes as prolific as Robert Waller, I may just off myself.

And, I still have nightmares of a screenplay so bad it couldn’t be saved by the mighty Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep!

  51. Ohhhh the disappointment, I saw ‘Madonna’ and thought she’d covered Like A Virgin. Not gonna buy it now.

  52. I can’t see this album appealing to many people under the age of 60. But that doesn’t mean it can’t still be successful.

  53. Heh…I’m over 60 and I wouldn’t touch this album…I don’t think it is age related as it is lifestyle.

  54. I wouldn’t be surprised if this sells at least relatively well but I don’t see her sticking around long. She doesn’t seem to have the personality or mind-set needed to make it in the business. They are cashing in on her current name recognition. They will all make some money off this while they can and then she will fade into obscurity. Even if she does manage to outsell Adam the week of release I will rest assured that he will be around longer. Just my thoughts anyway.

  55. I have no desire to hear Susan Boyle strip the emotion out of ‘Up To The Mountain’ thankxokgbye.

Ditto. Although it might be a good antidote for insomnia.

  56. There’s a channel playing reruns of the Lawrence Welk show? I had no idea. That’s pretty hilarious. And, I would most definitely be curious to know who those viewers were.

    Er……
    (looks around sheepishly)
For lolz and sometimes when I am sick and can’t find any Andy Griffith. It reminds me of my childhood- I had Lennon Sisters paper dolls.

Not interested in SuBo, though. Buying music is a whole ‘nother area than watching nostalgia TV.

  57. I actually thought her version of Wild Horses was ethereal and quite riveting. Give her a chance.

  58. Give her a chance.

A lot of Glamberts are very invested in Adam’s CD being number 1 that week instead of SuBo’s. There will be a lot of wailing (perhaps even more than on Season 8’s finale night) if SuBo outsells Adam.

  59. Yikes! She got a Patty Griffin song to sing? WTF! Oh, well, maybe it will earn some extra $$ for Patty. She’s a goddess.

  60. i really hate this woman. for the life of me, i still dont get the hoopla surrounding her. she has a decent voice. great. so what? and now, an album full of covers? ugh. puke. she’s a novelty due to her cinderella story, not her talent. its annoying how the media tends to latch on to a mediocre person, story and sensationalize the shyt out of it.

  61. I find her Wild Horses track really pretty. She actually sounds better on the track than what was shown on BGT. I find her just as talented as Adam (the fave on this blog obviously). I actually prefer her style rather than Adam’s over the top postering. Adam does have a wider range though. There are tons of people who prefer different style and no I’m not 60.

  62. it’s the Julie London ‘Cry Me A River’

    LOL

I am laughing at myself. I was thinking of Joe Cocker’s amazing cover of “Cry Me A River.” Love the way he sings that song. And, I just couldn’t picture SuBo singing anything like Joe Cocker…. LOL
I didn’t know who else had covered it nor did I know who sang the original.

  63. Youse guys have got it all wrong. To be Adam-centric is not to be anti-everybody else. Adam could record a non-vocal whistling track of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and I would pronounce it genius. I give no one else that courtesy, but I ain’t gonna prematurely dis them either.

  64. a) There will always be schmaltzy middle-of-the-road easy-listening dreck. There were the Montevani Strings. Now there is Susan Boyle. Same difference.

    b) Susan Boyle is a novelty act. Same as Clay Aiken or David Archuleta.

    c) Susan Boyle is no less talented than half of the singers on the current Top 40. You have, I assume, seen the #1 selling song on iTunes today. Talent? Don’t talk about talent…

    d) There is nothing wrong with covers. Elvis’ entire first album was covers, as were most of the songs on the first Beatles, Stones, and Dylan albums. In fact, I think it could be argued that one reason contemporary pop music is such a wasteland is that the kids don’t sing enough covers. It’s how you learn the musical vocabularies and traditions. The problem with Susan Boyle is not covers. Can you image how bad her album would be if it were full of Kara Dioquardi “songs”. Good lord, the woman would have an aneuryism just trying to get through one of those verses.

  65. A lot of Glamberts are very invested in Adam’s CD being number 1 that week instead of SuBo’s. There will be a lot of wailing (perhaps even more than on Season 8’s finale night) if SuBo outsells Adam

Yup, I like me some Adam, but nope don’t think he’ll be #1. He finished second on a reality show competition, hasn’t put anything out yet to define his target audience, and is very polarizing. Yup, his fans will buy his music because they like his voice but he hasn’t gotten half the off the charts press nor any of the sob song story that Susan has and buying his album only means that you like his music, doesn’t have the nice fuzzy social conscious thing that people who buy Susan’s music have and will have.

And I don’t think dissing Susan’s lack of “proven” talent and great singing skills will propel someone else to the top of the charts. Susan has had an excellent marketing campaign and excellent human interest press to help her out. The “success” she may have in record sales won’t reflect poorly on any real Artist. People are pretty savvy when it comes to manipulation and Simon manipulates with the best: see Divo, Il.

  66. I’m a fan. I’m looking forward to buying SuBo’s CD.

But for the Adam fans…should I wait until the following week? To make sure he debuts at the top?

    BTW..just a prediction. Adam debuts top 3…dunno if he’ll make #1…SuBo doesn’t even crack top 10.

I’m willing to do so (I’ll be out of town that week, so I won’t have much of a chance to listen). However, if I go shopping Black Friday, and find this at Wal-Mart or Best Buy for $7.99, I won’t be able to resist.

Tell y’all what. I’ll make a deal. If I buy Susan’s album the first week, I’ll also buy Adam’s. Deal?

  67. A lot of Glamberts are very invested in Adam’s CD being number 1 that week instead of SuBo’s. There will be a lot of wailing (perhaps even more than on Season 8’s finale night) if SuBo outsells Adam

Well, I like Adam, but I’m not a Glambert. And, I couldn’t give a rat’s ass where he finishes during his first week of sales. I didn’t pre-order, and I won’t buy it until I hear some of it and decide if I like it. So, I’m definitely not buying the first week. And, I’m not invested in anyone’s career except for the guy who pays my bills.

I’ve never actually associated Susan Boyle and Adam at all. I’ve had the SuBo h8terade going since the initial YouTube. So, to insinuate that everyone who is not fond of her is just some bitter Adam fan, is really reaching IMO.

  68. SuBo’s “wild horses” sounds me like “dying wild horses”.
She broke my favorite Stones’ song down to pieces with no emotion.
She just sang note to note correctly as if an innocent child reads a novel for adults aloud.
Her album might sell well, might better than Adam’s, but I wonder people would buy her second album if she could make it.
Anyway she is just a Simon’s golden goose for the time being.

  69. Susan does seem to have the benefit of a lot of media hype and a mass marketing campaign although we don’t seem to be hearing that much abou her in the UK at the moment .. I’m just waiting for the media onslaught and it will be interesting to see if she appears on the usual media chat show rounds that those releasing albums do .. as I’m not sure how she’ll cope with it.

I also wonder if she’ll get a slot on the live X Factor shows.

There’s a lot of unrest on the X Factor forums at the moment due to last year’s winner, Alex Burke, appearing on the first live show on Saturday to promote her new single .. as Robbie Williams is also a guest that night and he releases his single the exact same day as Alex .. plus he seems to be mentoring the contestants this week and is being billed as the star with a World Exclusive of his single being performed. A lot of Alex fans think that she’s being shafted by the show by having to share the stage with Robbie

  70. I’m a huge Adam fan and can’t wait to hear his album. However, I didn’t rush out to pre-order it either. I want to hear samples of it first because Adam has had a lot of hands in the pot while making this album. He knows what he is doing, but he is under a lot of influence to make something “modern.” Susan Boyle has a good voice and there is just something in it that is different from the others, a lot like Adam. But that’s what makes music great is that we all can get different things from music. If Susan was a young beautiful blond with that voice what would people say? And I don’t know about what charts everyone has been watching, but Miley Cyrus is on the top of them and playing on the radio all the time. Has anyone heard her sing live? lol

  71. I wonder why with every subject it comes down to crazy ass Adam fans? Truthfully I don’t see alot of gnashing of teeth from his fans about Subo. I really don’t care where Adam lands week 1….I care about weeks 2-6…..then I will gnash my teeth, sit shiva for his career, or go carpet bomb VFTW for predicting his demise. Until then I will just wait impatiently for a song leak of any kind.

I wish Subo makes a ton of money on this cd. She will be able to live comfortably with her cats. I foresee she and Paul Potts doing some touring together in the future, but I don’t expect to see her ‘topping’ anything after this initial run. She really is a novelty, and I think she has an expiration date stamped on her foot, so she need to hit while the iron is hot.

  72. ummm I am a Adam fan.. but I am not invested in anything other than owning MY album, Call me selfish.. And would never think to buy a Susan Boyle album.. but who knows if I happen across anything that I like I buy..

  73. A lot of Glamberts are very invested in Adam’s CD being number 1 that week instead of SuBo’s. There will be a lot of wailing (perhaps even more than on Season 8’s finale night) if SuBo outsells Adam.

Yes. Yes there will, Sparkles. Death to SuBo! I swear. If I see her album at Walmart on the day of their mutual releases, I’m going to hide it in the Parental-Warning Hip-Hop bin. Then, I’ll place Adam’s CD’s front and center. Mwahahahaha!

  74. I see SuBo doing well, and likely topping Adam that week (I do think it will likely be between them though since Lil Wayne moved his release date, but as a fan of Adam’s, I don’t care if he is number one or not). Sure, she is a novelty, but it’s Christmas time! That’s what people are going to do. People do mad dash shopping and go “uh, what do I get Aunt Betty for Christmas?” then they remember that not-so-good-looking woman from YouTube who was British and wowed people, so they grab it, even if Aunt Betty didn’t want it. And that is what they are hoping for, with that Nov 24th release date. Same with Adam and his buzz: random gifts, and it won’t just be ‘crazy-ass’ fans doing it. It’s the nature of Christmas shopping, especially that week where prices are competitive and slashed, and shopping is kind of crazy.

Btw, not a fan of her voice or the gimmick either. Apparently only attractive people are supposed to sound good. Who knew?

  75. That is a track list designed for people over 70. I know this album is going to sell at lot of copies — but I am still in total denial.

And, can’t someone stop SuBo from ruining “Daydream Believer” like she ruined “Wild Horses”? Lalalalalalallalala I will stay in complete denial and never listen to her ruin the MONKEYS! Isn’y anything sacred anymore!!!

  76. I think Susan and Adam will be in the top 10. As far as Adam goes I would rather have him have a steady sales steak for 52 weeks and never make number 1 then to have a number 1 album that sales die off right away. I would be extremely happy if he followed Carrie Underwoods first album. (never went to number one but sold a Super load of copies. (Yes I know he will not sell 7 million copies no one will these day. I just would like a similar trajectory)

And, can’t someone stop SuBo from ruining ‘Daydream Believer’ like she ruined ‘Wild Horses’ ? Lalalalalalallalala I will stay in complete denial and never listen to her ruin the MONKEYS! Isn’y anything sacred anymore!!!

    I’m right with you Q3…lalalalalalala :-)

  77. She has a mediocre voice

Hmm, I think imma have to disagree..After listening to Wild Horses, I think her voice sounds very pretty recorded. I don’t like the tone in some ways, but it’s pretty.

Remember the book ‘Bridges of Madison County’ ? Worse book ever written, full of maudlin melodrama with no literary salvation but the story was just so tender and sweet and overdone and enthralled all the ‘womenfolk’ and it became a national bestseller, a horrible movie, and the writer even wrote another one.

I hated both the book and the movie.

  79. Tell y’all what. I’ll make a deal. If I buy Susan’s

album the first week, I’ll also buy Adam’s. Deal?

This made me smile.. you are so thoughtful! Thank you, but I think I’ll decline your “deal.” I don’t care if SuBo tops Adam in the first week. I’m sure things will right themselves eventually.

I do think SuBo has a better than average voice–but I don’t hear any soul, emotion or grit. And I do think she ruined Wild Horses.
I don’t know about anyone else, but i’m commenting on her prospects because mj has a headline thread devoted to her, not because I see her as a threat to Adam. That would be downright silly.

  80. I think for many people, like me, it’s all about hearing a good voice sing some standards and familiar songs. Period. Not the drama, not the hype, but the voice. I’ve only heard her sing one song but I was stung by the voice, and I’ll be curious about the cd. I’ll probably buy a couple of songs. I don’t really get the strong reactions against her, but I haven’t been exposed to the hype, I mean, where are people hearing all this hype? I don’t seek out articles about her, so it all goes over my head. I feel sorry for her being so fragile emotionally, life must not be easy for her, but her voice is what I admire.

I think today with the emphasis on original music, and every singer is supposed to also be a songwriter, and all songs are supposed to be autobiographical, people forget what it is to hear really great songs interpreted by many different singers.

Not that these are all great songs. It’s quite a hodgepodge, yet I’m curious to see what she does with them.

  81. Tess at 4:51pm – I agree with your comments; for
many it truly is a “rags to riches” story and many
people WANT to relate to that — I am only mediocre
about Susan Boyle’s talent; it’s on/off not really
    my cuppa.

I think she would be great on Broadway or
London’s West End … portraying an elderly
aunt or mother — her voice is strong and carries
far in a theatre I’d imagine.

I also believe she has a good future ahead
of her ~ perhaps not CD-wise, but in live
    entertainment.

  82. I do think SuBo has a better than average voice’“but I don’t hear any soul, emotion or grit.

Not everybody likes those in music, though. Music can be appreciated just as a mathematically simple pure melody, too. Some people prefer that.

I wouldn’t say I prefer it. But I do like it sometimes, as a switch-off from more emotional stuff. Sometimes just purdy is what I’m looking for.

There are so many things to appreciate — or run from — about music that there are going to be fans of just about anything that’s at all competent in some way.

  83. But for the Adam fans’ ¦should I wait until the following week? To make sure he debuts at the top?

Tell y’all what. I’ll make a deal. If I buy Susan’s album the first week, I’ll also buy Adam’s. Deal?

I’m an Adam fan, but not a Glambert. I can’t speak for all fans, but I think you should buy whatever albums you want whenever you want to. I don’t think Adam is going to need charity purchases. If you want Susan’s album, buy it. It’s your money and your choice.

  84. Well what can i say. Ok where do we start, Adam lambert,This world famous NOT star released 10 singles and 1 album in the summer, total sales of 50,000 for mad world and a combined total of 522,000 for all sales up until july 31st,ricky.org and usa today.World shattering sales NOT. Total hits on his name on google.6,430,000 .total hits for susan boyle 17,000,000.Susan boyle video hits up until october 1st 340 million + from all sites. She will sell more in her tea break than lambert will in his life. It’s an album for over 70s,Where do these people live on the planet Zod.Her cry me a river got 12 million hits on you tube alone. And was raved about. You think all kids love hip hop and rap.Your sadly mistaken. Is it the best list,Not by a long chalk. But it will still sell millions because she has a fanatical fanbase.Plus whatever those who think she is crap think. 340 million means your ridiculous views won’t even count will they.wild horses is 40 yrs old.And rated by almost everyone as the best cover of that song, including mick jagger. You idiots need to go buy shares in a funeral home because that’s as far as your musical taste will get you.

  85. Well, I like Susan Boyle very much – I love Adam Lambert. I like lots of different kinds of music – country probably the least. Someone asked who first recorded “Cry Me a River” – I think it was Julie London – a long, long time ago. I will absolutely buy Adam’s album – before I ever hear anything, if that’s how it is. I want to hear all of it and to hear him sing a whole album will be a wonderful way to spend an evening. His voice is to die for and I think the snippet is super, too.

  86. People are too into looks instead of concentrating on the voice!!
Really, if I like what I hear, I’ll buy an album.
As far as looks go, well, maybe if Susan wore half the make-up that Adam wears she’d look pretty darn good too.
I like Adam’s voice, but his looks give me the willies.

  87. Hwc you need to learn how to do research,The beatles first album ‘please please me’ released in 1963 had 8 lennon and mcartney tracks and 6 covers. They had more originals than covers. And,The stones first 5 singles were all covers.
