Susan Boyle – Email Reportedly Confirms Lou Reed Rejection

Update 2: Listen to Susan Boyle butcher sing “Perfect Day” via TMZ

Susan Boyle – Perfect Day

It’s wretched isn’t it? Team Lou Reed!

Simon tells TMZ, “Loads of people have covered this song … Well Lou, if you’re listening to this, do we have permission, yes or no, to put the song on America’s Got Talent next week? Personal request from me.””

Update: Simon Cowell calls Lou Reed “petty and pathetic” for not allowing SuBo to perform his song, according to Deadline London.

Lou Reed’s reps told Access Hollywood yesterday that the legendary rocker did not personally turn down a request for Susan Boyle to perform one of his songs on this past week’s  America’s Got Talent.

But, TMZ, who initially broke the story, claims to have an email from Susan’s manager that says otherwise:

TMZ has obtained an email that Susan’s manager fired off on Thursday to FremantleMedia — the production company behind “Talent” — saying:

“Susan was absolutely devastated to be told on the morning of the show taping that Lou Reed had personally decided to block her singing his already much covered song, ‘Perfect Day, ‘ on ‘America’s Got Talent’ in L.A..”

The email continues, “We obviously had no idea of this prior to leaving London. None of us can understand the decision given that it’s such a beautiful rendition of the song.”

Susan’s rep also claims that she pulled out of the show because she learned of the rejection only 2 hours before airtime and had no time to prepare another song.

So, are Lou’s reps protecting him from being the guy who was mean to the crazy cat lady? Or was there a misunderstanding between Susan’s rep and the folks responsible for getting songs cleared? Hm.
