Survivor Season 48 Week 3 Recap and Live Blog

A new episode of Survivor 48 airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap here.

Vula returns to camp after tribal council. Mary was surprised Kevin was voted out, but she’s grateful she’s still in the game. She knows she’s at the bottom of the tribe though. Meanwhile, Sai is weary of Cedrek and Justin. They told her to play her idol, but she didn’t need to use it after all. She wants to search for the hidden immunity idol tomorrow to have that added protection again.

It’s the morning of Day 6 on the Civa tribe. The tribe is impressed by David’s strong physique, but David says there’s more to his story. He lives in a trailer park outside his father’s house. He’s 38 years old, but he’s not financially stable enough to settle down and start a family now. He says winning the $1 million would help him and his girlfriend a lot.

Meanwhile on the Lagi tribe, Joe builds a bonfire to build tribe morale. In his confessional, Shauhin says Joe is his #1 ally. They also have the “California Girls” alliance with Thomas. Thomas is close to Bianca; Joe is close to Eva. That leaves Star on the outs of the tribe. However, Eva gifts Joe a bracelet to give to his daughter in front of everyone. Thomas is now weary of Joe’s connection to Eva. Thomas and Shauhin exchange looks; they both seem to be in agreement that Eva needs to go.

Back on the Vula tribe, Mary and Sai are searching for the hidden immunity idol. Sai is following Mary to prevent her from finding the idol. Sai also instructs Cedrek that they need to babysit Mary. Mary runs into the forest, and Sai chases her. Sai says she respects Mary’s game, and that’s why she’s after her.

Mitch says everyone on the Civa tribe is clicking. He wants to go deep into the game with everyone, but he says Charity is his #1 ally. Charity also views Mitch as her #1 ally. They discuss options, and they agree they should keep David and Kyle around as shields. Mitch lets Kyle know his alliance thoughts later, and Kyle is pleased that he’s in the middle of the tribe. Kyle and David can side with Mitch and Charity, or they can stay with their original alliance with Chrissy and Kamilla. Kyle also has a hidden immunity idol in his possession, so he’s feeling good.

Back on the Lagi tribe, Eva talks game with Star. She doesn’t want to commit to working with Star, but she wants to make sure Star isn’t targeting her. Eva asks Star if she found a clue or an idol, and Star denies that she has. Joe already told Eva the truth, so Eva knows Star is lying. Eva wants to build trust with Star, so she pitches Thomas and Bianca as possible options to vote out if they were to go to tribal council. After their conversation, Star throws Eva under the bus to Thomas and Bianca. Now Bianca and Thomas want to work with Star to get rid of Eva. This would also give them the majority against Joe and Shauhin.

It’s time for the immunity challenge. One person will be a caller to instruct blindfolded tribe members to collect three bags of keys. Once they get all the keys, they will unlock a slide puzzle. The caller will instruct a blindfolded tribe member to solve the puzzle. The first two tribes to finish will win immunity, as well as rope and tarp. The challenge begins with Shauhin, Cedrek, and Kamilla as the callers. Lagi and Civa take the early lead, and Vula is unable to catch up. Lagi wins immunity! And shortly afterwards, Civa wins immunity! Vula will go back to tribal council. Jeff also lets the castaways know there will be a Journey. Lagi will decide which three tribe members will go. They choose to send Bianca, Justin, and Kamilla to the Journey.

The Vula tribe returns to camp. Mary knows she’s on the bottom, but she says she can only go up from here. Mary wants to pretend she found a hidden immunity idol. She goes swimming and pretends to be unbothered. Sai is paranoid. She believes Mary may have found something since she isn’t hunting for an idol, so Mary’s plan works. Sai suggests she and Cedrek split their votes on Mary and Justin if Justin loses his vote. In his confessional, Cedrek says Justin is his “right-hand guy.” He doesn’t think he can write down Justin’s name.

Meanwhile, Bianca, Kamilla, and Justin arrive at the Journey. They will secretly play the same game, which is a game of chance. They will roll die that will determine if they win an extra vote or if they lose their vote. Four flames mean they earn an extra vote. Four skulls mean they lose their vote. They will keep rolling until an outcome is determined. Bianca gets three skulls on her first roll. She gets three flames on her second roll. Bianca rolls a skull on her third roll. Bianca has lost her vote. Kamilla rolls three skulls and two flames on her first roll. She gets a flame on her second roll. Kamilla rolls two flames on her third roll. Kamilla has won an extra vote. Justin rolls two skulls and one flame on his first roll. He gets a skull on his second roll. He gets another skull on his third roll. Justin has lost his vote.

Kamilla returns to camp, and she tells her tribe the truth. They are excited for her that she won an extra vote. Bianca lies and says that she did not risk her vote. Later, she tells the truth to Thomas. Justin lies about the game. He says he had to roll die, but he claims it wasn’t for an advantage. He pretends he won’t know if he won “comfort, shelter, or food” until tomorrow.

Later, Cedrek and Justin discuss their options for tonight. Cedrek warns Justin that Sai might vote for him in case Mary plays an idol or her Shot in the Dark. Justin goes to Sai and tells her that Mary doesn’t have an idol. They all agree to just vote for Mary tonight. Sai is still worried though. Sai approaches Mary and asks why did she stop searching for the idol. Mary says if it’s her time to go, then it’s her time to go. Mary’s plan is to continue playing mind games, which seems to be working. Sai is convinced Mary might have an idol, so she is contemplating voting for Justin to save herself. Cedrek is planning to vote for Mary, but Justin won’t have a vote tonight. Who will be voted out?

It’s time for tribal council. Cedrek says the tribe needs some adrenaline. Sai says they have not sat down and talked about working together. Mary says she doesn’t feel like she’s part of the group, because she’s at the bottom of the tribe. Sai points out her name has been written down at the prior tribal councils, so she doesn’t feel safe either. Mary and Sai say they have respect for each other, but they agree that they cannot work together. Justin says everyone’s bags are packed and anyone could go home tonight. Sai says she knows how the vote will go tonight, but she admits the Shot in the Dark could cause a hiccup in her plan. Sai says she was nervous when Mary was swimming instead of searching for a hidden immunity idol. Mary hints that she might have an idol when Jeff asks her what she thinks may happen. Finally, it’s time to vote.

Before Jeff reads the votes, Mary plays her Shot in the Dark advantage. Jeff opens the scroll. Mary is safe!

Jeff reads the votes. The first vote is for…

Mary

Mary

Mary cannot be voted out, so they must revote. But Cedrek and Sai cannot vote for Mary, and Justin still cannot vote.

Jeff reads the votes again. The first vote is for…

Justin

Sai

It’s another tie. They must vote again. Jeff also reveals to everyone that Justin doesn’t have a vote.

Jeff reads the votes for a third time. The first vote is for…

Justin

Sai

It’s still a tie. Jeff says they are deadlocked. Jeff explains the rules. They must first discuss who to vote out publicly. If they can’t agree, then they will draw rocks. However, due to how to vote has played out, only Cedrek can be eliminated by a rock draw. Sai and Justin plead their case to Cedrek. They both promise Cedrek that they want to go deep into the game with him. Sai tells Cedrek she has told him everything, but Justin hid the fact he lost his vote. Cedrek tells Sai that she and Mary need to bury the hatchet before he decides to vote out Justin tonight.

Justin is the third person voted out of Survivor 48. He wishes them well after he gets his torch snuffed.

And that wraps ups tonight’s episode of Survivor 48. Thanks for reading, and come back next week for another live recap.
