  1. Okay, I’m posting this teaser from Highrollers with Heart. I can’t wait for seventh:

It’s been a long road, but the finish line is finally in sight! Highrollers with Heart is very close to achieving our goal of raising $100,000 for the FAA at TCH Denver, thanks to contributions from generous minded people everywhere.

Our next project will help us and the kids of TCH Denver reach that goal with the speed of the Jaguar! Full details will be available at
    http://www.highrollerswithheart.org on April 11.

Two are better than one, so why not double your fun? With one for you and one for she, there’s no way $100K won’t be!
Or perhaps the Jaguars that you see will be one for you and one for he. Now is not the time to walk but run and the families you help will be a ton! With a little help from Ace’s Jag, we’ve got $100K in the bag!

    Great cause :)

ETA: They are at 94K now.

  2. Shameless repost from the end of the dead thread:

I just read that April 11 is Blake Lewis Day in Bothell, WA. We need to have a blog party… Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll bring sausage balls!

  3. Okay, back to this season. I am firmly on Team Plaid now. I so wanted to hate the dude, and I was upset when my boy Brandon left. I loved his original song that I will shamelessly pimp here:

    http://www.blingster.com/music/artists.php?artist_id=71

However, upon reviewing my DVR I noticed that I have been riveted by Blake’s perfomances. :) After Brandon left, they all stop at the end of Blake’s songs.

Oh, and I didn’t find Sanjaya’s pics creepy. He’s just a kid doing weird stuff. I remember those days :)

  4. The Jazz Side of Taylor Hicks

… But Hicks managed to get a release from his label contract to record a single jazz-oriented CD for the tiny Idlewilde label.
Although soul jazz-oriented material seems a natural choice, he also covers a lot of other ground. The surprising opener is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Caravan,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ from the Duke Ellington songbook, where he benefits from the brisk arrangement and fine hand drumming of Moroccan percussionist Ali Bahdum. The vocalist is obviously having fun as he tackles Bobby Timmons’ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dat Dereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (even if his attempts at a child-like voice are a bit awkward), backed by Jiri-Lee Paupenpilz’s driving bass.

He offers dramatic interpretations of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Sunrise, Sunsetà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (From Fiddler on the Roof) and the timeless standard à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Body and Soul,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ with excellent backing from Bosnian pianist Emil Kazhinaczech. His take of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Georgia On My Mindà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is every bit as soulful as Ray Charles’ famous version, but with a jazzier touch. Hicks’ humorous two-minute wrap-up of Steve Allen’s theme song, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“This Could Be the Start of Something Big,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is a scream as he makes it known in his liner notes that this jazz session is likely a one-shot opportunity…

  5. I wondered when Team Plaid was going to pick up on that Sarah, I posted the press release last week.

  6. An ‘Idol’ love connection?

“American Idol” castoff Alaina Alexander and finalist Chris Richardson are still making beautiful music — together, TMZ.com reports.

The pair “hit it off instantly” during the rehearsal phase and even though she was cut, their relationship is afloat.

Proof? Alexander has a really sweet picture of the two on her MySpace page. Also adding fuel to the romance rumors — last week when cameras panned the audience to show Richardson’s adoring friends and family, Alexander just happened to be there. “A.I.” reps had no comment on the relationship.

  7. All the news that’s fit to spoof
    Fed up, Gonzales fires self

…It depends what your definition of talent is: “American Idol” contestant Sanjaya Malakar confounded the experts by making it through the cuts and into the show’s final 10. “It’s really beyond me,” said the incompetent 17-year-old singer. “I’ve tried everything to get voted off and yet they still vote for me. If I’m still on next week, I’m thinking of tattooing my head with dirty pictures of Simon Cowell and singing `Mary Had A Little Lamb’ in Farsi. I figure that should nail the championship for me.”…

  8. U.S. pop stars woo fans en espanol

…Jennifer Lopez, who was born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, also just released her first complete Spanish album, “Como Ama Una Mujer” or “How a Woman Loves.” Lopez has said she did her first demo in Spanish, but back then the labels weren’t interested. Now she’ll likely sing one of her Spanish songs when she appears in an upcoming episode of Fox Television’s “American Idol.”…

  9. Lopez turns lights down low in lush album done in Spanish

…Meanwhile, Por Que Te Marchas (“Why You Leave”) simmers until the refrain kicks in with swelling strings and Lopez’s vocals, which sound like they’re lifted from an American Idol audition. Lopez isn’t known for understatement, but you wish she’d had the courage to leave this one half-baked. That approach works perfectly on Sola (“Alone”), which slinks along with ambient electronica…

  10. Raleigh singer wows TV crowd

A Raleigh R&B singer managed to please the notoriously harsh Apollo Theater audience, enough times to make it to the finals of “Showtime at the Apollo.”
In March, Koury Thompson of Raleigh taped three episodes of the televised singing competition at the famed Harlem theater, in which competitors get booed off for bad performances. Before that, Thompson says his main claim to fame was making the second-round cut at 2005 “American Idol” auditions in Washington, D.C.

When the syndicated “Showtime” airs tonight at 10 on WRDC, viewers can catch Thompson’s winning performance of Jamie Foxx’s “Heaven,” which advanced him to more winning rounds, plus a final round later this spring.

“It was a good opportunity,” says Thompson, 28, who grew up in Raleigh and still lives in North Raleigh. “Whatever exposure I get out of it, that’s good.”

  11. Guitar festival brings big names to Municipal

…John Goodman, best known for his role on the sitcom “Roseanne,” served as emcee for the concert. Goodman mingled through the audience, telling jokes and visiting with the crowd between sets.

As Goodman walked on stage, he teased the audience with a joke regarding “American Idol” performer Sanjaya Malakar.

“You’re the people who have been voting for that Sanjaya kid, aren’t you?”…

  13. In honor of April Fools’ Day, quiz answers will feature the actions of some of our favorite celebrity fools who made news last week.

    1. Perhaps our favorite celebrity fool of all time, Paris Hilton, is looking at some serious jail time – 90 days! – after being caught doing this in Los Angeles.

    2. US Weekly pleaded with the Los Angeles-bound former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham to please wear one of these when strutting around town in thin T-shirts.

    3. Britney Spears and her soon-to-be-ex-husband Kevin Federline made headlines this week after doing this.

    4. “American Idol” contestant Sanjaya Malakar was once again being criticized, but because of this, not because of his consistently weak performances on the reality show.

    5. Actor Eddie Griffin crashed this pricey $1.5 million car at a charity event last week.

  16. American Idol Wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Let Chris Sligh Blog Or Sing His Original Songs

In a recent conference call with media, Chris Sligh proved to be one of the most outspoken finalists ever eliminated from the show. 17. ‘American Idol’: The Power of the Brand

…Normally, an abundance of product dilutes a brand. But “Idol” might be having its best music year yetà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ in total, the above artists have sold 3.7 million records. “It’s kind of early, but I can’t recall any other year when we’d sold so many units by March,” says Iain Pirie, who heads 19 Entertainment in the United States, which signs “Idol” stars. Seventh-place finisher Young has a theory why there have been so many success stories: “If you’re an ‘Idol’ fan, you’re going to pick them all up and give them a shot.”…

  18. The Sanjaya Conspiracy

Tone deafness never hurt anyone on “American Idol”à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ remember Kevin Covais? But Sanjaya Malakar has hijacked this year’s show. He’s not even one of the lowest vote getters. How did that happen? His lousy voice and ridiculous hairdos have actually become his secret weapon. “I think Sanjaya is embracing the fact that he’s the worst and he’s going crazy,” says Dave Della Terza of Votefortheworst.com, which is campaigning for him. Many of the “fanjayas” (including Howard Stern) are voting for the wayward warbler in hopes of discrediting the talent showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ he’s the “Idol” h***** mascot. Simon Cowell says he’ll quit if Sanjaya actually wins. On second thought, vote for Sanjaya!

  19. Rock junkie mom finds drummer is regular guy

…Recently, I’ve added newcomers Daughtry, fronted by last year’s “American Idol” rocker Chris Daughtry, to my all-star list.

In fact, I’ll be rockin’ out with Daughtry in Birmingham on Tuesday and in Nashville on Thursday. Since you never know when you might see a band member before a show and need a conversation starter, I did a little research and ended up on the telephone with drummer Joey Barnes. (He’s more accessible than Chris.)

I discovered that “rock stars” are just like regular people – they just have more fans.

I learned that Joey and I are kindred spirits: We both love chocolate ice cream, and he loves music as much as I do.

“I’m always singing, I’m always entertaining or something. Sometimes people get really perturbed,” Joey says with a laugh. “Maybe it’s part my insane love of music and maybe it’s part ADD. I don’t know.”

Friends sometimes think I’m nuts, too, because I’m so into my music. I bought three copies of Daughtry’s double platinum, chart-topping debut album (two CDs, one download). I have 136 Bon Jovi songs in iTunes, and come June 19 another new Bon Jovi album will be added. I have playlists for just about everything.

    See the similarities? No? …

  20. No ‘Idol’ threat in Web site’s challenge to television

The test is between the biggest show on television and a Web site started by a 24-year-old suburban gadfly, between media old and new.

On one side is “American Idol,” which is in its sixth season of drawing millions to look on as our fellow citizens risk insult and humiliation in the hope of becoming a singing star.

On the other side is VotefortheWorst.com, started three years ago by Dave Della Terza of Naperville, Ill., with the avowed purpose of getting viewers to vote for the contestants whom “the producers would hate to see win on “American Idol…

  22. April Fool’s Day is perfect for the sham of professional wrestling

    It’s April Fool’s Day.

The one day each year when we are encouraged to play jokes.

The one day when we are encouraged to pull the wool over someone’s eyes.

The one day when we can make someone look silly, laugh at them, point at them and shout, “April Fool!”

Do you think it’s a coincidence that WrestleMania 23 is scheduled tonight at Ford Field in Detroit?

Professional wrestling is fake. It’s orchestrated “competition” passed off as an athletic event.

This is what many of us don’t understand about professional wrestling. What is the lure when Mickey Rooney could win the WWE title?

I could win. You could win. My five-year-old grandson could win. Whoopee…

…Whenever there is a hint of something improper in any other type of competition, it causes an uproar. Think Sanjaya Malakar on “American Idol.”

In professional wrestling, Sanjaya could be the world champion. He could beat Umaga and cause Donald Trump to have his head shaved…

  23. Look like your favorite ‘Idol’

…”The retailers win because they get excited customers coming to their sites,” says Heather. “The brands win because they’re associated with a top TV show. The fans win because they get the information on the clothes.”

Certain items with an “Idol” connection have turned out to be hot sellers, like the Royal Mocc leather jacket for about $1,000 worn by Katharine McPhee.

“We sold a couple of dozen of them within a week of putting it online,” says Heather.

    Hitmakers of sound and screen

Musician-actors aim to strike it big with crossover appeal

…Jennifer Hudson. After the ex-Disney Cruise Lines theatrical performer lost in the late rounds on “American Idol,” the great record executive Clive Davis decided not to sign her to his BMG label. Big mistake. Hudson stole “Dreamgirls” from Beyonce, winning a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for best supporting actress, and BMG had to pony up far more money to sign Hudson as an established star. Her solo album is due in late summer or early fall, and if she can sustain her “Dreamgirls” buzz it’s likely to be a blockbuster…

  28. The Jazz Side of Taylor Hicks

So it’s gonna be like that huh, Lisa B? :)

DingoDingoDingo!!!!! Get yourself over to Gray’s and look at the video of Taylor and Keb Mo doing Sweet Home Chicago. It will make your day, guaranteed!

  29. okay am gonna say the C word Conspiracy

ever since taylor made it on the top 20 BB charts taylor has not gain airplay in 4 days since the news on the AC charts….he loosing spins when he should be gaining..am gonna say it..someone does not want taylor to suceed….the worst part he might fall out of the top 20 because of him loosing spins…i hate to feel that way..but something is not right about this no new spins in 4 days come-on :wallbash_tb:

  30. platinumgray – I don’t think Taylor’s success will be defined by hit singles. While there are (arguably) one or two songs on his cd that could do well on radio, for the most part Taylor’s music does not fit in with the popular formats. There’s always the chance that cd #2 will be more radio-friendly, but I’m not holding my breath for that. I’m just thrilled that his tour has been such a big success artistically and (apparently) financially, and that he seems to be a very happy guy.

Lisa B posted an article awhile ago wherein this music industry guy talked about radio play as just one of many prongs in the marketing of a musical artist. Having a hit singles is great, but the absence of one will not make or break Taylor. What would break him would be sacrificing artistic integrity for the express purpose of securing that elusive hit. But seeing the expression on his face, as he performed Sweet Home Chicago, reassures me he cares more what Keb Mo thinks of him than what radio programmers do.

  31. I’m bringing the chips and rotel dip to the Blake Lewis blog party. And I’m gonna make a pair of plaid pants for myself in honor of Blake. :)

  32. But Hicks managed to get a release from his label contract to record a single jazz-oriented CD for the tiny Idlewilde label.

Also note this interesting item :

Wonder what Simon Cowell had to do with this …. I thought he hated Taylor Hicks.

  33. Patriotic Pastimes
Say hell yeah for baseball, Idol, and fireworks

…To kick off the event in suitably patriotic style, the Marlins and event sponsors Edyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Ice Cream are proud to present a postgame concert featuring five of our American Idol favorites. The show will feature Anthony Federov, Jessica Sierra, Ace Young, Mandisa, and our personal favorite, Miami girl Nadia Turner. It turns out that Ms. Turner has been quite busy in her post-Idol life…

  34. Joss Stone Calls American Idol ‘Cheesy’
And has a pop at the judges…

The British singer believes the long-running show has got a limited life-span, and the singers now appearing will struggle to garner any critical respect.

She explains, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I think if you keep going with it, it’s gonna get more and more cheesy… and that’s a shame for the artists, because they just want any break.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ …

  35. The video of Taylor and Keb Mo’s encore jam of the classic — SWEET HOME CHICAGO at Gray’s site was DA BOMB. Makes you wanna be there live.

Even the audience were singing at the end. This is a great performance ( an understatement ).

  36. The video of Taylor and Keb Moà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s encore jam of the classic à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ SWEET HOME CHICAGO at Grayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s site was DA BOMB. Makes you wanna be there live.

I watched it last night and it was amazing. I’m a fan of Taylor’s more subtle performances, but seeing the sheer joy and exuberance on his face…well, I had a smile on MY face too the whole time I was watching it. The man is truly living his dream up there, records sales be damned. I felt a little maternal, watching that, thinking about how Taylor’s evolved in the last year. And then I quickly snapped out of that, since I’m only 24.

You cant dispute fact. Thats was just fuckin’ awesome.

  49. Taylor should grow his hair into the long romantic wavy Musketeer look. Big&Sexy would pay big bucks to promote a Gray Line if he agreed to wear the frilly shirts, frock coats and button down britches. Woooo!

I’m going to inflict some Clay news on you, since his news gets pretty much ignored.

Clay’s Foundation held The Champions For Change Gala last night. Clay gave a speech and introduced a few of the auction items. He also performed 3 songs. The Prayer, I Can’t Make You Love Me and Unchained Melody. His friend Quiana sang Home from The Wiz, as well as dueting with him on The Prayer.

The hand written lyrics and music to his song Lover All Alone went for 55,000 dollars. Dinner with Clay & Friends brought in 20,000 dollars. Two packages of 2 tickets plus resort accommodations went for 26,000 dollars each to attend the taping of an NBC Ice Skating Special where Clay will be the sole artist performing live while Kristi Yamaguchi, Ekaterina Gordeeva, Kurt Browning and others will skate to his songs.

In all about 200,000 dollars was raised for The Bubel/Aiken Foundation.

He is in the process of growing a full beard and mustache in preparation for his next Unicef Goodwill mission. He’s going to the Middle East before the start of his Summer Tour, where the facial hair will help him blend in to the population.

    As you were! lol

Hmmmà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know the Estonians loved Jazz. But then, the movie à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“TERMINALà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ starring Tom Hanks, had a character from that part of the world who sent his son to New York to get the autograph of a jazz great. So who knows ??

Everything is connected. There is no coincidence.

You forgot to mention his planned trip to the ice cream shop.

I didn’t want him to get mobbed. He IS huge, you know!

  53. undecided: The hand written lyrics and music to his song Lover All Alone went for 55,000 dollars

Wow. That’s some serious coin. Clay does do a lot of great charity work. Good for him!

undecided: NBC Ice Skating Special where Clay will be the sole artist performing live while Kristi Yamaguchi, Ekaterina Gordeeva, Kurt Browning and others will skate to his songs.

    I love those three skaters!

  54. Ahhhhh “Sunrise, Sunset”. Something I always wanted to hear Taylor sing. Sigh……

Guess I better start saving my pennies to get me one of them smuggled out CD’s. :happy_tb:

  55. okay am gonna say the C word Conspiracy

ever since taylor made it on the top 20 BB charts taylor has not gain airplay in 4 days since the news on the AC chartsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.he loosing spins when he should be gaining..am gonna say it..someone does not want taylor to suceedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.the worst part he might fall out of the top 20 because of him loosing spinsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦i hate to feel that way..but something is not right about this no new spins in 4 days come-on

seriously? are you serious? this is an april fools post right? cause I KNOW you are not really posting about conspiracy theories.

MJ???MJ??? are you back from Chicago yet???

I love that performance and Kurt too! He gets very wet!!!

Clay said there will be 8 songs/performances. Some with Pairs skaters and some solo. I love ice skating so my fandoms collide!

  57. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a fan of Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s more subtle performances, but seeing the sheer joy and exuberance on his faceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦well, I had a smile on MY face too the whole time I was watching it.

I love how he looks over and points at Keb’ with a big grin on his face like “do you believe this guy”? lol What a nice parting gift Gray left us.

When are the media going to write up Taylor’s brilliant guest performance with the Macau Symphony Orchestra? His harmonica fugue doesn’t get anywhere near enough accolades.

Do they have the music sheet for this :)

I see that one of the songs Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s jazz album covers is CARAVAN.

Now I am curious to see if there is a bongo in there.

I don’t know about the bongos, but seeing as it was a jazz album, I’m sure they were hitting the bong.

    :cool_wp:

  60. Undecided, thanks for posting the Kurt Browning link- remember when he had hair? lol!
I love skating, and Kurt is one of my faves- it’s been a long time since I’ve seen that clip of him doing Singing in the Rain.

Undecided, what does The Champions For Change Gala support? What change?

The Bubel/Aiken Foundation funds programs to ensure that children with disabilities are afforded the opportunity to participate in activities with non disabled children. The Y, Boys and Girls Clubs, After School Programs, Camp Gonzo and many many community projects that are willing to integrate children with disabilities into their local programs can benefit.

Clay was a Y camp counselor and one of his greatest frustrations and disappointments was the policy that children with disabilities could not attend the camps or other programs because of a lack of trained professionals and extra funding for equipment and staff training. His foundation pays for things like wheelchair ramps and special swings for playgrounds that can accomodate wheelchairs, just as an example.

The Change is to one day have all extra curricular programs include all children as a matter of course.

I loved when Kurt skated “Sunny” to his wife as she sat ringside in one of the recent Kurt Browning &Friends shows~ it may have been the one where the Barenaked Ladies played?
Now Kurt skating while Taylor sings “Ain’t No Sunshine” ~ I’d travel pretty far for that one~!

  66. Haley Scarnato Slides into the Top 9 on the Couch

…So far this competition has been very good for Haley it has given her the ability to show the world and the judges that she is a very good singer and performer. Haley is a very breathtaking woman and strives hard to make her appearance appealing to her body and to the people that are looking at her. Haley’s voice is compared to many people because of her vocal range, so it is no surprise to say that her idol is Celine Dion and her favorite pop artist is Michael Jackson and Christina Aguilera. All very good idols and from lots of different backgrounds, Haley like all of her idols did not start out famous and has had to work to get to where she is. She thanks god for giving her the ability and the strength to carry on each and every week, as the competition grows harder and harder…

  67. YUCK on the Haley Scarnato “breathtaking woman” and how wonderful “her vocal range” is article. DOUBLE yuck!

  68. WOW, just WOW!!!!

Yesterday I went to the movies and saw ***’s music video. On the big screen she is great. I have totally changed my mind about her…I now really think she WILL BE HUGE. I even went across the street and bought her CD. All I can say is WOW…it has been in my rotation, right between Keb Mo and James Morrison, non-stop, ever since.

Today I plan to scour all local record stores and buy all available copies so I can make all MJer peeps mobiles.

    I LOVE *** McPHEE….

  75. Good morning to all. The vid of Sweet Home Chicago is up on YouTube now compliments of Sherri. Thanks!
I have a question regarding the boogie site. I have tried to register twice there and neither time did I get a confirming e-mail. How long does that usually take? The other sites I have registered on take only minutes. So what the heck am I doing wrong? Any suggestions? The last time I registered it told me to await my e-mail and I am still waiting.

Yes, these are actually a snip of the insipid lyrics from ***’s insipid CD. LMAO

    Have fun peeps. :)

  78. Was quickly reading some of the links this morning. About Chris R and Alaina, I thought he was taken. Well, I guess it is now “was.” On the earlier stories about him, he was in a 4-year relationship with a girl named Gayle that also worked at Hooters. They even interviewed her for some of the stories about Chris. Poor girl. Another girlfriend left by the wayside . . .

  79. hapi, you asked about working at hooters and sanjayas sister actually works there, or has worked there in the past

  80. Oh my gosh! I just read on another site that MJ’s will be the official Taylor blogsite???

I also heard that JJ did kick Metta’s a$$!!!

Believe it or not, Boulder DID like ****’s clip at the theatre! She called me and was sooooo embarrassed to admit that she had been wrong…all this time….

Lastly, did you know that Sanjaya has a preternatural connection to the common werewolf?

Sorry to dissapoint, I only bought one copy of Kats cd, because thats all i need one cd, i’m not for inflating her sales. The media and general public will decide if shes a success or not, and so far all the signs are pointing to yes

  83. link for Sweet Home Chicago on You Tube

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=MiGTtvCrzLY

Aside from the bad harmonica solo in the middle, that was an awesome performance. Such a great song. And Keb Mo! Too bad Taylor’s CD doesn’t have songs like this on it. Taylor’s band guitarist is really good too. I bet it was a trip for him to be jamming with Keb.

  84. The media and general public will decide if shes a success or not, and so far all the signs are pointing to yes

Was that seriously written with a straight face?

    :huh_tb:

  85. Aside from the bad harmonica solo in the middle, that was an awesome performance

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH AFAN?

  86. It was with a straight face, if you guys don’t want to see the writing on the wall about kats career and how its not going to be over anytime soon thats fine, i think theres been one article mentioning her sales as “lackluster” and the next week they printed a story about how well she’s selling.
And with her cd sales increasing the last week, and looking like it will again this week it’d be stupid to say her cd bombed, and that shes not going to be a success

  87. lol, Cateye, I don’t know what it was, maybe because Taylor didn’t want to embarass himself in front of Keb Mo so he didn’t dance around like an asshole which I appreciate.

  88. i’ve always preferred taylor doing blues as opposed to the “soul” music he does

  89. AFan: Does anyone know the lowest spot Daughtry was on the charts?

Which charts? There are a lot of them. I think he was in the 1000’s once on one of the Rhythmic airplay charts once. LOL.

If you mean the BB200. I think it was like 11th. Check the archives.

  90. AFan- I laugh at your post regarding Taylor’s dancing like an asshole!! I had an interesting conversation with MJ after the concert regarding this exact topic and I think you would be very surprised at her take, as well as my own about Taylor’s dancing “style” during his concerts. He really doesn’t dance like he did on AI. You do understand that a lot of what he did on AI was for attention and votes. When he is on stage during a concert, his movement is much more restrained. He moves with the music, not dancing as you remember from the show. I hope mj does a recap of the Chicago concert and mentions her take on this issue, cause I think you will be very surprised at what she has to say. Also, why don’t you go to one of his shows and see for yourself, instead of blasting Taylor for your perceived bias.

  91. Right now Daughtry is #16 on yes.com à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ fell from #2 yesterday.

INO’s fallen off the top of the Top 40 and is losing spins on HAC. You can’t stay at the top forever. He had a good run.

  92. lol, Cateye, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know what it was, maybe because Taylor didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to embarass himself in front of Keb Mo so he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t dance around like an asshole which I appreciate.

AFan’s back. Phew! Was worried there for a few moments.

  93. Home is moving up the charts though, and thats what happens when you release a new single (on the 10th i think we’ll see it move drastically)

  94. radname: Kats number 2 in Us Weekly 2007 makeover

They think she’s the number 2 person most in need of a makeover? I don’t know if her style is THAT bad.

  95. No, she’s number 2 as in had the best makeover, reese witherspoon is first

  96. Anyone have access to IDF? Apparently there is a spoiler list floating around but I cannot access it.

  97. i have access to IDF, the song spoilers usually don’t come out until later because then they don’t have time to change it, i can look for you though

  98. No, sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s number 2 as in had the best makeover, reese witherspoon is first

So, they think she’s improved a LOT from what she started with?

  99. Kirsten heres what the article says:
2007’s Fab 5; Hooray for Hollywood’s leading ladies! Us crowns the year’s most stunning celeb transformations.
    #5- Katie Holmes
    #4- Drew Barrymore
    #3- Kate Walsh
    #2- Katharine McPhee
    #1- Reese Witherspoon
She has a two page spread in it as well

  100. Thanks radname! It may be a fake list but I just wanted to know what the potential spoilers are. Thanks again.

  101. She has a two page spread in it as well

Again!?!?!?! Can that woman not keep her legs together?!?!?

  102. Rickey doesn’t know the list yet, but this is whats been posted as someone was randomly imed so take it with a grain of salt
Blake Lewis – Fly Me To The Moon (In Other Words)
Melinda Dolittle – Just In Time
Phil Stacy – Shadow Of Your Smile
Chris Richardson – For Once In My Life
Jordin Sparks – I’ve Got the World on a String
Haley Scarnato – Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Sanjaya Malakar – Because Of You
    Lakisha Jones – Smile
Gina Glocksen – Good Morning Heartache

    Blake apparently beatboxes.

Gina apparently does it in a Sheryl Crow style.

They were all good pretty much.

    Sanjaya will have a combover.

  103. Thanks, radname!

So if this true (which I doubt), Haley really does want to be Katherine McPhee. And Blake beatboxes? NO! I hope he scats.

  104. I imagine Haley will do Eva Cassidys version to a T, like she did with true colours. McPhees version was Eva Cassidys and Jane Monaheit combine

  105. Haley Scarnato – Somewhere Over The Rainbow

There is no way this is a real list, If Haley is this stupid she should just quit the show now, Haley Scarnato is NOT Katharine Mcphee, she doesn’t even compare, in talent or beauty or anything for that matter, if she does SOTR I will shoot my fucking TV. This list has got to be a joke.

  106. lol Nanny calm down, i have no problem with Haley doing it, i love katharines version and i don’t think Haley will surpase katharines version FOR ME because i don’t like the tonality of her voice that much

  107. From Rad’s list
Phil Stacy – Shadow Of Your Smile

Sigh. Finally, Phil picks the perfect song and I am 80% certain the list is an April Fool’s Joke because of SOTR for Haley. She can’t possible be THAT stupid…can she?

  108. Ace is now ahead of Daughtry in the official Idol heartthrob poll at ew.com (39% to 37%). However, what really pleases me is that poor Constantine lags way behind with 13%. Maybe the Bold and Beautiful role will help. Heh.

On another note, some of us went to see James Morrison last night. He was great.

    Check out his video here:

    http://us.video.aol.com/video.index.adp?mode=0&pmmsid=1851737

  109. LOL at Haley doing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. First Kat’s extensions and now this? I’m seriously doubting this list!

Kirsten, thanks for the Billie Holiday link.

  110. Simon will either be in heaven or hell this week. This is his favorite genre of music now. (according to him on Leno) He said it was his mothers fav when he was a boy so he hated it, but now he loves it. I think Phil could do really well if he did Shadow of Your Smile, Michael Buble style. Simon will probably hate every version of anything though.

  111. I feel ashamed – I only know two of these songs. Thanks for the links Kirsten. It’s really helping me out.

  112. LB2: Thanks for the links Kirsten. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really helping me out.

It was fun tracking them down. Though, some were tough because the words are just so common. I tried to mix up the artists a bit to see different takes on a song.

  113. Kirsten heres what the article says:
    2007à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Fab 5; Hooray for Hollywoodà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s leading ladies! Us crowns the yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s most stunning celeb transformations.

OH My! Katie Holmes is #5 in the best makeover department???? She’s gone from a person to a wind up toy. Now, that’s progress.

  114. Taylor fans…….please go to GC site thread The Thing About It and take note of post #981, where a poster has put up a rudimentary blogspot for comments and tour recaps……..just in case! Very cool of her.

Ace is now ahead of Daughtry in the official Idol heartthrob poll at ew.com (39% to 37%).

  116. That list sounds pretty accurate to me since Tony Bennett has duet for most of them. I can’t wait to see/hear Gina doing Good Morning Heartache.

So disappointed that the Taylor jazz album not real – I would so have hunted that album down and bought it and played the mf to death. That would have sold millions. I love his version(s) of Georgia on My Mind.

Perhaps he and Elliott should collaborate on a specialty album of that type and blow us away with special jazz songs for real. I’d buy it – you’d buy it – it would sell. It would never be played on radio – but who cares?

REALLY ENJOYED “Sweet Home Chicago” – want that bronzed. The harmonica playing was not miked correctly, imo.

  117. oops …..

Let’s see, we have a tall cutie and a bald dwarf. I think the numbers should be further apart.

ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve always preferred taylor doing blues as opposed to the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“soulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ music he does

Soul music IS Blues music with gospel sprinkled in.

  119. i don’t believe taylor actually does soul music and thats why the soul is in quotations

  120. So let’s see…

radname thinks Kat is a success because Us Weekly says so…
    AFan hates Taylor’s dancing…
A list of fake song spoilers is making its way around the internet…
“TPTB want Taylor to fail” conspiracies abound…

Yep, all is right with the world :-)

You know, I watched that video clip over at GC’s again this morning, and I couldn’t help but notice that there was something really…wrong with it. Then a lightbulb went off over my head and I realized what it was. Keb’ Mo’! He was SMILING! He was ENJOYING playing with Taylor! I mean, in that case, I guess he must not have gotten the memo that Taylor’s CD fell off the Billboard charts and that Taylor’s a failure. Obviously, a legendary artist like Keb’ Mo’ wouldn’t waste his time sitting in on a failure’s set, so yeah…that must be it. I’m sure when he checks out the charts next week and finds that Taylor isn’t selling millions, he’ll demand that all audio and video of the performance be erased from the internet and publicly deny that he’s ever heard of Taylor Hicks to erase the embarrassment of having associated with a flop.

  121. Kat…………..Keb Mo may not demand that the vid be taken off, but his record company might unless he is with J Records too. There is alot of stuff going on with YouTube and unauthorized downloads. Of course it was in his downtime

  122. i don’t think kat is a success because of us weekly, but getting write ups in magazines atleast monthly is never a bad thing

  123. NOLA i’m 20, and if you want to judge everything i know about music on my age you are sadly mistaken. My favourite artists of all time have the likes of Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Etta James. I don’t just like one type or genre of music, and i’m open to all different kinds. As Elvis Presley once said, i like it aslong as its good.

  124. Keb Mo may not demand that the vid be taken off, but his record company might unless he is with J Records too.

:lol_tb: I was being sarcastic, kind of trying to illustrate a point…

But, FYI, Keb’ Mo’ is with Sony/BMG under the Epic label.

i like it aslong as its good.

Then what’s your excuse for liking McPhee’s album? :lol_tb:
    KIDDING!! Kidding.

rad, do you like Marc Broussard?

  125. I guess I’m the only one on the blog who doesn’t know what a Keb Mo is….

  126. Kats number 2 in Us Weekly 2007 makeover

Poor ***, always the bride’s maid, never the bride.

  127. official Idol heartthrob poll at ew.com

Who actually sits around and makes up these silly polls? LOLOL

    ETA:
So I don’t tick PJ off, GO ACE. ;) lol

  128. i donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think kat is a success because of us weekly, but getting write ups in magazines atleast monthly is never a bad thing

It’s totally not a bad thing. And I’m not gonna say Kat isn’t a success. She is (for now). In fact I think I posted something on another blog saying how you can’t say Kat is not a success because her album sales are low. I kind of fear for her, though, because of the nature of her success. No one gives a shit what she’s singing. She’s a pretty tabloid princess right now (yes, Us Weekly, In Touch and OK are tabloids). She’s talented, sure, but she’s more famous for her looks right now than she is for her singing or her music. If that’s what she wants, fine, I guess, and she can be successful doing that for a couple of years, but eventually, someone younger and prettier is going to become the new tabloid darling, and if Kat doesn’t have a solid career backing her up, she’ll be knocked right off the pages. (Unless, of course, she starts acting wacky a la Paris/Nicole/Lindsay, but even I have to admit I’ve seen no evidence that she’s that type of girl, thank goodness).

  129. Who actually sits around and makes up these silly polls? LOLOL

    ETA:
So I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t tick PJ off, GO ACE. ;) lol

LOL. Sadly, I would love to get paid to make up such nonsense :)

  130. rad, not judging; but let’s just say I lived through the soul generation and Taylor knows soul.

  131. WTF is up with giving us only a choice between Blake Lewis and Chris Daughtry for “most unique vocalist?” Hahahahahaha!!! Chris sounds like every other rawk screamer and Blake hardly even sings–and when he does, he’s boring and bland. No Fantasia? Nadia? Taylor? Bo? I’d call any of them more “unique” than those two. Feh!!

  132. OMG that poll has me in stitches. I had to go with Daughtry for “Idol heartthrob” because he’s the only one out of the three who looks like a MAN, not a thirteen-year-old girls’ androgynous, non-threatening fantasy. No secret that I think Taylor’s sexy, but I daresay Elliott Yamin exudes more sex appeal than Chris Richardsn or Ace Young, with their doe-eyed blank stares and cheesy smiles. Also–Nadia Turner’s not a “belter,” and comparing Fantasia to Melinda is like apples and oranges.

I wish people paid me to write stuff like this.

Taylor, if you need a new blogmistress…I could use a paycheck. ;-)

  133. i donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think kat is a success because of us weekly, but getting write ups in magazines atleast monthly is never a bad thing

With all these photo shoots, tv performances, Sexy Hair, red carpets, video, etc., she should be selling way more albums than she has so far. If she doesn’t sell a lot more CD’s, she will be endebted to her producers for quite some time.

  134. Also, why donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t you go to one of his shows and see for yourself, instead of blasting Taylor for your perceived bias.

uhh, because making fun of him is more fun?

Also, Haley singing SOTR will be suicide. I don’t care what anyone says, Haley does not have what Kat had. Plus, even if you hate Kat, it’s obvious that SOTR was probably one of the best (at least critically) performances of the Season 5. Haley will do a version half as good and Simon will rip her apart. I doubt she’s that stupid to try it. It’s like someone doing “Summertime” again.
Another thing, I think Sanjaya may actually do well for standards night. The band won’t drown out his voice and I think a soft voice is way better for standards. Although he kind of murdered that one song during semi-finals, so who knows.
And if thats true about Gina… YES!

  135. Kat, i do like Marc Broussard. I was wondering if anyone hear has heard of the Black Keys? they’re a great two peice band that does kinda blues/rock music

Oops…obviously, that was for sales in 2006. Carrie’s sales as of 03-25-07 are 5,115,957.

Carrie’s sales at the 71-week mark for her debut album are slightly ahead of Kelly’s sales at the 71-week mark for “Breakaway,” her sophomore effort, which had sold 5,071,497 CDs.

I really like the Black Keys. Very talented duo. The only problem I have with them is that their songs tend to run together for me a bit, but I do have a lot of their stuff on my gym playlist.

AFan, you are right. It is fun to make fun of Taylor. :-) I miss his freak dancing!

They are the best we have so far.

Don’t worry. She’s doing the Izzy K version. Nigel is even going to let her play the ukele. Nobody will even think of Kat (despite the hair extensions). Nigel is hoping that she’ll be able to steal Sanjaya’s Hawaiian vote.

See, back in the day, the winner and runnerup were allowed to release their albums before the other finalists. And while Clay’s album was released first, it was with Ruben’s approval.

Josh Gracin’s album was released 06-15-04

  164. Stubborn kind of fellow: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ champ Hicks wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t let anybody tinker with his soul

Reigning à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Taylor Hicks doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care what folks think of him or his debut CD.

Just because the 30-year-old Birmingham, Ala., singer isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t scoring the kind of commercial success as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make him a failure in his own eyes.

This is from the SoundScan chart for 02-04-07:

    2 MCPHEE*KATHARINE KATHARINE MCPHEE 115,761 999 204 116,022

Katharine’s first week’s sales were 115,761; the 116,022 total includes street violations — CDs sold ahead of the official release date of 01-30-07 — and those are not included in the first week because they did not occur in the first week.

This is STANDARD for all Idol albums. The rules don’t change for Katharine.

Nevada: besides Elliott, how many were on an independant label?

Idols signed to small “Indie” labels:

AI1 — RJ Helton, Jim Verraros

    AI2 — Corey Clark

AI3 — Jasmine Trias, LaToya London, George Huff. (Jon Peter Lewis reportedly started his own label, Cockaroo Entertainment.)

AI4 — Vonzell Solomon (reportedly started her own label, album hasn’t been released). Constantine’s band, Pray for the Soul of Betty, had a distribution deal with Koch Records.

    AI5 — Elliott and Paris.

    Ruben: 1,217,626

    Taylor: 611,646

The writer apparently softened up on Taylor then, cuz I thought the piece was VERY positive!

Maybe the writer is finally “getting” Taylor — or maybe it’s a different writer. At least it’s positive, so that’s all that counts.

  172. And here are various Idols at the 15-week mark:

    Carrie: 2,245,423
    Clay: 2,236,013
    Chris: 1,801,711
    Ruben: 1,570,620
    Kelly: 1,349,025
    Fantasia: 1,139,533
    Taylor: 661,000

  173. Blue-eyed soul, a la Hall and Oates, Michael McDonald, Huey Lewis and the News, etc.

Taylor may do pretty good covers of these artists but his album is not a reflection of this style, at all. His album is more like Keith Urban rather than Michael McDonald. Taylor likes soul music but he’s not making soul music. Maybe he should just do a nightly show at Vegas where he just covers old soul classics. He’ll be there in 5 years anyway, why not speed up the train?

  174. Finally, since little d à ¢’ž ¢ is at Week 18, here are sales totals for other Idols at that point in time:

    Carrie: 2,456,660
    Clay: 2,334,976
    Chris: 2,039,337
    Ruben: 1,631,581
    Kelly: 1,435,978
    Fantasia: 1,246,303

  175. I just got a plesant surprise, reading a paper i originally thought was 24 pages, was only 14, ten pages of endnotes/bibliography on the end! makes my job a lot easier

  176. His album is more like Keith Urban rather than Michael McDonald. Taylor likes soul music but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not making soul music.

Although i don’t think his CD is Keith Urban either, i definately feel Elliott has more soul on his cd then Taylor did (although i view Elliott as neo-soul anyways) Taylors cd wasn’t anything that i thought modern soul music (or even “whomp”) would sound like

  177. Me thinks someone on this blog wouldn’t know soul music if it jumped up and hit them in the ass. :)

  178. rad, I am one of the Taylor fans who feels that he was more soulful on his debut albums (Under the Radar and In Your Time) than on this one. I highly encourage you to check out In Your Time, especially.

Also, don’t forget, Elliott went indie, Taylor didn’t…he didn’t escape ALL corporate influence…

  179. Seattle Times article re: Sanjaya:

As a freshman at Shoreline’s Shorecrest High School in 2005, Malakar was known as a happy-go-lucky kid, always clowning around, playing his guitar and, of course, singing.

In the hallway. After school. In class.

“I didn’t get very good grades,” Malakar said in February. “I was always singing in class. I was distracting, so I’d get sent out of class.”

He also likes to style girls’ hair! Yay!

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/artsentertainment/2003645910_sanjaya01.html

I lived through the soul generation and Taylor knows soul.

Of course he does. The “Taylor’s not soulful” barbs rank right up there with cracks about his dancing. *yawns*

  181. Kat i do have both taylors earlier cds, and i think they’re both better then his new one FOR TAYLOR. i don’t think his new cd is that bad, or is bad material, i just don’t think of Taylor when i hear it

That said, Taylor has said I don’t know how many times, he is a *working musician* and that live performing/touring is his *creative and monetary bread and butter* – that’s what he’s done in the past, and now that he’s got the clout, he’ll be doing the same thing in larger venues, in addition to putting out albums maybe every 1 1/2 to 2 years – don’t forget he’s a great songwriter too – take a listen to “Somehow” for a sample. And CERTAINLY he’s not the type to stay put in one place like Vegas, for heaven’s sake, AFan LOL!!

Hicks in Vegas would be a must see though. I wouldn’t be against going that route at some point. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. All the greats of the past have done it and it’s a quite lucrative gig.

  194. griz à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know about that. She has been making the rounds in the gay bars with that old man she hangs around with!

Something tells me that may just be what Nick likes..

  195. Wow Chris is really close to Clay. Eventually he may pass him up and have the second biggest debut of any Idol and biggest debut of a non-winner.

    Good job DAUGHTRY.

Squishy – You better pray little d’s career doesn’t end up like Clay’s. Living proof that debut album sales may not have ANY bearing on future sales or success in the music industry. Mark my words. Without albums sales, he will be up sh*t’s creek – he certainly can’t rely on live shows – Chris’ personality and abilities in that arena are sorely lacking.

  196. hezzer!!! We are going to PEI later this summer. I am so excited. Now that I understand the true significance of Anne :)

  197. Hicks in Vegas would be a must see though. I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be against going that route at some point. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing to be ashamed of. All the greats of the past have done it and ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a quite lucrative gig.

Example: Celine Dion. What does she make per year? 20 million?

  198. i know hezzer. omg is pretty much the only way to sum this blog up today.

  199. Metta I need help. Get your ass to chat.

Yes I am telling posters what to do.

  200. see now….mj is a brilliant blogmistress. and she put these guidelines right above the typing box.

that was so smart of her!!

  201. If Taylor got a gig like Celine Dion and Elton John in Las Vegas, I will definitely go see him there.

  202. Kelly Clarkson is amateur? I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think so.

In performing ability in comparison to Taylor Hicks?

    Very much so.

    I do think so.

We won’t even get into the fact that only one’s a real musician.

  203. I haven’t (and never will) hot Dave – but I’ve seen enough to know that Chris’ performing style is strickly a copy-kat wallet chain/guyliner act that’s been done a zillion times before – from true talents – originators of the genre.

  204. Taylor likes soul music but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not making soul music.

A Fan, You can’t get any more SOULFUL than “Somehow” and Taylor wrote that song.

To be perfectly honest, I feel thats whats missing this year on Idol.
No one sings with SOUL.. They’re some good belters, but the SOUL just ain’t coming through…I Know I know, I used ain’t…

  205. now now squishy, you know snarking on taylor is not allowed here!
    Melinda sings with Soul

  206. I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t (and never will) hot Dave – but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve seen enough to know that Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ performing style is strickly a copy-kat wallet chain/guyliner act thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been done a zillion times before – from true talents – originators of the genre.

you can’t say anything about Chris performance abilities unless you’ve seen him live. period. you have no idea what the atmosphere is like in there or how well he performs.

  207. Wow. Truth: If it wasn’t for LisaB posting her wonderful articles everyday, I would stop posting a daily chat thread.

Either that, or I could just ban Season 5 talk. Or make “Taylor Hicks” and “Chris Daughtry” banned words in my filter. I am seriously considering it.

Maintaining a chat thread full of adults (some way way way into adult hood) squabbling like middle-school girls at the playground is not my idea of scintillating reading. Sorry.

    So knock it off, please.

  208. Nevada – Thanks for the info on which other Idols signed with indie labels.

  209. Count me in, pj, I do like Blake, and I love the name Team Plaid – it is way cooler fan base name than, say, the Blaker Girls, ew.

  210. did everyone read what mj posted? i think….you should READ it. and then COMPREHEND it.
