Steven Tyler Sings the National Anthem – Boston Bruins Home Opener

Steven Tyler sings a rather, uhm, interesting rendition of the National Anthem before the Boston Bruins home opener at the TD Bank Garden in Boston, MA Thursday night (Oct 21).

He sounds like that drunk guy who stands in front of the garden. Lulz.

Watch it after the jump. At the end, Steven plugs a motorcyle he autographed to be auctioned off for charity. What a character!

  1. Oh, my aching stomach (from laughing so hard)! :D

It’s gonna be hard for him to tell ANYONE they are a little pitchy (but maybe that phrase is being ditched this year).

    Thanks for the laugh!

  2. OMG HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA can’t breath HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA seriously need air HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE side hurts HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA crying HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

P.S. that little girl at the begining looks skerd…haha now we know why

haha and it sound like he almost forgot the words

  3. And the rest of Aerosmith was worried that him judging Idol would ruin the band….they should be thankfull they aren’t touring j/s

  4. he is the new paula… i love paula, but i think he’ll be hilarious.. didn’t really expect that from him…

  5. Tears in my eyes.—————-
From laughing, and sad all at the same time. Maybe when you say someone is an old rocker-that’s what you get!
But still excited to see him on the show. He believes in himself.

  6. I think Idol needs to open every episode with Steven singing the NA. Breathtaking!

  7. OMG that was awful. All I could think of listening and watching him was of a mentally challenged person I used to see wandering around. She sang ‘Moon River’ to trees just like Steve Perry.

It’s going to be hard hearing him criticize the Idol hopefuls.

  8. And the new winner of the title of “Scream On” goes to….

    Steven Tyler!

    LMAO

I think Idol needs to open every episode with Steven singing the NA.

    seriously, great idea, lol!

  9. i feel so sad that all these historic places are named after banks. Boston Garden was great before it was named for a bank.

The song–oh man. He wouldn’t even have made it to Hollywood.

  10. I am a very patriotic person but for the first time ever I had to click off the singing of Star Spangled Banner. I can’t imagine him judging these kids after that atrocious rendition. (Maybe some day the professional sports teams will invite Adam Lambert to sing the national anthem. His performance of the song is so beautiful and powerful.)

  11. The diction was horrible, geez just SO horrible…was he a little drunk/high? He’s one ugly son of a gun too. Makes me wonder why I’m looking forward to seeing him on idol, but for some reason, I am, lol. Crazy.

Count me crazy too, lol, can’t wait to hear what comes out of his mouth!

  13. Finally, a real replacement for Paula. S10 is looking totally popcorn worthy.

I know right LOL! I can’t wait to see this guy on Idol every week, it’ll be hilarious. Just seeing his face on HD will crack me up.

  15. LOL ROTF I love Steven because I am an Aerosmith fan…but that was definitely NOT his greatest musical moment. Looking forward to season 10!

  16. And the new winner of the title of “Scream On” goes to….

    Steven Tyler!

    LMAO

indigobunting, remind me that we need to bookmark this one the next time someone brings up Danny as violating the sacred interpretation of ST on Dream On. Lol! :D

That was truly beyond horrific. Roseanne Barr was better

Steven may just have been celebrating an early Halloween. Eek, skeered.

  17. OMG I’m afraid to hit play after reading all the comments!

ETA: OK, I listened. He does sound drunk.

  18. OMG! LOL! now I think AI10 will be fun to watch. He is so ugly I did not think I would be able to see his face every week for 4 months but as long as he’s bringing the funny I’ll tune in!

  19. “Oh say does that Star Spangled Banner yet ggraaayyyve?”

Huh? Does this man have a speech impediment?

I think of the troops whenever I hear the SSB. Does this kind of performance honor them?

ETA: How do you think he’ll do when they invite him to sing Hallelujah on Idol?

  20. HahahhahahahhahahHA!

I LOVED it! Horrible diction, but the FU affect more than made up for it. The syntax is a bit archaic for the rock treatment, but the semantics are right on. And so nice to have a melisma-free version. I’m so sick of r&b-lite.

  21. That was…something else. Not sure what, exactly. The guy has balls? chutzpah? no shame?

He definitely brings another element to Idol. Another Paula? I don’t think so. This guy is an original.

  22. I don’t know what all you people are talking about! I thought he was absolutely totally fantastic!!!! He was NOT pitchy! He was cool, different, exciting and genuine. WE may NEVER hear a version of our anthem like that again – unless he sings it again :) AND he sounded great. LOVE STEVEN TYLER!!!

    Steven, is that you?

  24. He was on key. That is what is admirable.
I think the main problem was that the work done on his face has lifted, stretched his lips so that he can’t actually close them properly to sing words correctly. Just sayin’

If he was sober then maybe it’s a toothache or a problem with some facial muscles? Not a speech expert. He doesn’t enunciate some of the words. Example: “O’er the ramparts we waaaaat.”

  26. That was truly beyond horrific. Roseanne Barr was better

haha I just said the same thing to my boyfriend lol

  27. Lmaooo, wow. Good stuff. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the official face and voice of a ridiculously cracked out former rockstar.

    Sad, but somehow.. hilarious.

At any rate, I think he will be a hoot on Idol. Like Paula, only 10x crazier.

  28. I love Steven Tyler – now THERE’S a rocker for ya!!! Can’t wait for the new season so I can see him every single week!

  29. I loved it. Then again, as much as I love America, I don’t particularly care for our national anthem (America the Beautiful kicks the pants off the Star Spangled Banner, IMO, and so does God Bless America), so any rendition that’s different is pretty cool with me.

His version was so bad it was good.

  30. He sounded like he had something in his mouth. That said he, wasn’t flat or clearly drunk like Billy Joel has been “singing” the Anthem. I’ve heard much worse including from Lee DeWyze.

  31. It was not as bad as I expected from reading the comments, I even liked it. It was a rocker version, not technically perfect but interesting nevertheless.

  32. I was scared to watch this after reading the comments but seriously- exagerrate much? Was it up to the caliber of most of the idols, no- but that song is a hard one to sing. Give the guy a break isn’t he like 65 or something, lol? I say not bad for a hard living rocker.

  33. And STILL better than Lee DeWyze.

Sorry, but I don’t remember Lee Dewyze singing the NA this badly.

  34. Drunken karaoke. :) Plus you gotta love the commercial at the end.

Studio 57 – I would probably agree with you if he could hit the lower notes and wasn’t slurring. If his vocals are shot, then he might want to consider sticking with his own music (fans will always love it) or stick with commercials.

  35. LOL! A very entertaining rendition. I didn’t think that he was pitchy, but he really had to strain for the high notes.

  36. hahahahahaha that was entertaining!
I think i’m going to love that guy on the show :D

  37. I was half expecting him to say at the end “der, I like tater tots”

S10 will be amusing just to see what Steven will do.

  38. Oh, I do loves me my old ROCK STARS. And the uglier and more colorful the better. These guys knew/know how to entertain and how to get a crowd going. No sitting on a stool with a drooping chin for them. Steve has been lutz since the get-go and I think he has gotten better with age…and you know he laughs at himself, he gets the joke, you bet he does.

Any new singer would love Steve’s 40 some odd year career…and he and the rest of Aerosmith can still sell a concert venue. Besides he’s a pretty sharp dresser.

I’m going to be watching Season 10 of idol just because of Steve. Doddering old grandpas are de-rigor (or how ever the heck you spell it). And, in my day, the uglier the rockstar the more glamorous we thought they were…the pretty boys didn’t have a chance of being considered a trophy for all the groupies out there.
