Last night, American Idol judge, Steven Tyler was the focus of Oprah Winfrey’s two hour premiere of her new OWN TV show, Oprah’s Next Chapter.
While 120 minutes was a bit much to spend at Steven’s New Hampshire hide-a-way (subsequent episodes will be only 60 minutes), there were some fascinating moments.
Much has been made of Steven and Oprah’s discussion of the Aerosmith rocker’s drug use and infidelities. The revelations are juicy, to be sure. Far more compelling to me was the discussion of the passing of Steven’s father. It had only been days since Victor Tallerico had passed away at 95, and Steven spoke movingly of helping his father draw his last breaths.
In Part 2, Steven speaks about ultimately deciding to become an American Idol judge. Steven SAVED the text discussion he had with Kara DioGuardi about the gig. “Is it still getting good ratings?” asked Steven. He didn’t think Simon was “very nice.” Steven was really offended when Simon put down country music. Steven wanted to bring compassion, love and fun to the proceedings.
